I appreciate what they're trying to do, but I think it needs more levels. Something that's just been photoshopped a little shouldn't be made out to be created entirely with AI. Should be a tag for edited, enhanced with AI (generative fill, etc.) and made with AI for things that are entirely made with AI.

Check out the Reto Aerochrome filter if you can't afford aerochrome film but still want to shoot analog infrared and get those amazing pink colors (it's a trichrome process so you still need Photoshop to combine the color channels)

How long until people start printing their photos after editing and capturing the end result again just to get rid of the made-by-AI stamp? Not long.

I've had a rough year + lost my father last November. I was going through some of his old boxes and found his old Canon T60. It reminded me of my love for photography and has spured on a few found joy through the challenges and suspense of having to wait for film to be developed and not having instant gratification. This gives me all the more motivation and excitement to see where film takes me!

It is what it is. It will be cool to see some people going back to the roots of photography and keeping it original.

"film is expensive" hahaha, we used to use Polaroids to check our lights before shooting portraits because it was so cheap and film cost a ton. Now the polaroid film is $10-12 a shot 😵‍💫

A lot of digital photographers dont realize you dont actually need that 128+GB memory card to hold thousands of photos. Wanna slow down? 8-32GB. RAW+JPEG. Work with that.

Instagram another wonderful app ruined by greed of the owner and the greed of influencers.

Instagram has literally died. Unless you're famous or a model it feels like your posts don't even get shown on the algorithm. As a regular dude posting my photography, my posts get like 5 likes and barely even get seen. It's extremely frustrating.

The solution here is to not be motivated by public acknowledgement and celebration. Create great things because expressing the beauty in the world has value. Acknowledged or not. Might need a normal job though lol.

Instagram kept flagging me for spam when I was just uploading my photography. Got to the point where it started saying my follow requests for other accounts were pending approval. Deleted the account, it’s not worth it anymore. Meta royally destroyed Instagram just like they did with their original platform Facebook. Everything they touch they ruin. I hope they go bankrupt. Please bring back Flickr or make VERO worth using, or release a platform that resembles ORIGINAL Instagram.

I think the made with AI tag will serve as a barrier between people with significant retouching skills or professional editors on their photos and those who perhaps lack the skills needed to do convincing edits themselves, perhaps as a type of status symbol or "i actually put effort in" signal. I am in no way saying that using AI to help edit makes someone a less skilled photographer or photo editor, AI in it's current generation still takes a lot of effort to get a good result to properly display your intent in a photo. I do however think that it will give more of a 'wow' factor to great photos, especially surrealist ones, when you know someone has spent hours cutting around trees to get a perfect silhouette sunset shot or a fantastic portrait without obvious airbrushing of the skin or frequency separation and not just plopped "smooth skin" or "west facing pacific sunset" into a prompt. IMO it really depends on the purpose of the photo. Is it purely art meant to invoke emotion, is it an advertising shot, etc. I know a lot of businesses, especially ones featuring models or celebrities won't want a big "made with AI" tag slapped across the top of their photo. Companies like CVS, Olay, and others are not using any retouching in their beauty photography (according to a quick google search). Having any type of AI intervention in those types of photos would mar the brand's image significantly. Your assertion that AI should be allowed to a degree is valid, cleaning up small marks on a table top or smoothing a whitewall with shoe scuffs makes life a heck of a lot faster and easier, but without further intervention (perhaps a baked in layer showing what was editied with AI highlit in a red, like a layer mask?), its impossible to tell if it was a few spots removed or if someone took a quick cell phone shot and used a couple prompts (using others photography as a basis like in Adobe Firefly or Midjourney) trying to pose it as a high end shoot they spent hours making happens. At the end of the day, to me editing photos is about intent, and nothing else. If that intent and execution is morally correct then I don't really care how the image came to exist. I'm happy to hang a picture made with AI on my wall if it invokes an emotion out of me, but im happier to pay a heck of a lot more for the exact same photo if I know someone spent hours hiking to a location or working with a team to set it all up, got every element perfect to their vision, then executed the finishing in paper and print choice to exact their intent. Thats also part of why I buy art from CZcamsrs, getting to see the creation of the photo, especially people like Nick Carver who really do put the work into their craft, and show it. Does anyone know if it's JUST from exporting directly from Photoshop or Lightroom etc. that it catches it? What if you do a screenshot or something? Does it still tag it that way?
