Thanks for the wisdom and the laughs, Paul! Make sure you check out PRS Guitars if you're on the market for a new ax! bit.ly/PRS_MiW
i love his interviews. The team at PRS make the hands-down best guitars on Earth. I feel so lucky to be able to pick up and play 3 different PRSs - and I still want (need) more!! great job with the interview, tyler
How can I write a letter to Paul to explain what an inspirational business man and artist he is. Love to one day meet him
David Joynson exactly
Tyler, thanks for an awesome interview with Paul. Best one I've seen so far actually, you guys really connected.
Music is Win What is your amp/signal chain?--it sounds glorious!
I love that Paul will sit down with any CZcamsr no matter the size and talk gear. You can tell his just genuine and on fire about this stuff, it's contagious. We need more of these guys in the industry.
Totally agree Paul is always smiling as well. Seems like a really lighthearted great guy. One day I will own a PRS definitely my dream guitar. I remember seeing my first one as a teenager and being in awe even before I played guitar.
I met Paul in Annapolis a few months ago. He came right up to me (with that big smile) and we talked for a few. What a great guy!
Paul is great and his guitars are awesome! He seems like a really nice guy and my Singlecut will always be my number 1 guitar :)
Your an inspiration to many Paul.. you should be so proud of your accomplishments- much respect here in the UK
paramediccpo prs guitars are stunning 👍
sarfaraz rahman yea bro my STUDIO PRS 10 top is beautiful- love it
I wonder if Paul or even Tyler are conscious of how many PRS guitar sales came from watching Music Is Win intergalactic oneness... I was already very curious before but since following your channel last year I've bought an SE and then a CE! I bet tons of others bought PRS guitars partially or completely influenced by Music is Win ;)
Actually, you are right..he made fell in love with PRS guitars...I never heard of PRS before I saw Tyler
Great interview, Tyler. You didn't fall on all the typical questions interviewers ask Paul and it was very enjoyable to watch.
I really enjoy how straight forward, and how down to earth Paul is. Some of the things he says is the funniest shift ever haha
I love Pauls guitar design it's so good
I guess we all have our own reasons... but I fell in love with the PRS sound and look when I first heard it. However, I didn't want to dive into the PRS pool without knowing what the company was like or if they made quality stuff. Getting to know Paul through interviews like this has made me even more of a fan because I know that he cares deeply about what he makes, and the people he makes them for. Seeing him nerd out about the tones that various neck wood or nuts make is awesome. I'm working on getting my first PRS this year and I'm happy it's coming from a good company. On the acoustic side, just read about Bob Taylor and Taylor guitars and you'll get a similar feel. Thanks for the video!
Brad Coleman PRS and Taylor are my absolute favorites. Best two brands in the world.
Seriously dude, congrats on this interview. I can't wait to see who else you get in the future!
Thanks for putting this up, love everytime Paul gives his wisdom 🤘🏻
Kick ass Tyler! I love the on-line jam session format. So cool to hear both of you "think out loud" about your playing. Wonderful podcast brother.
This was the best interview with Paul I've ever seen. Talk about a chill out session with Paul. This is it! That was super sweet! God bless you, Tyler.. "I don’t think you can play beautifully distorted unless you can play beautifully clean"...that's the best lesson for anyone to take away from any interview with anyone ever.
This was great!!! Would love more of this.
"If you can't play it without an amp, you can't play it." This is THE BEST playing advice I've ever heard.
Man those are beautiful guitars you guys were playing. True works of art.
Great job Tyler, it was an entertaining and informative interview!
What an inspiration. Such a cool guy. 🤘
Paul is the freaking coolest, such a real guy!
Thank you for asking my question in this podcast!
-Christopher
I'm glad to be a part of this community. It's a shame that this video has a lot less views then it deserves
I spent a very cool moment Tyler! Thanks for sharing!
I'm my opinion prs is the top of the guitar industry
I love this interview. I would love a prs guitar its one of my dream makes. we love paul reed smith and would love to see him again.
Paul Reed Smith is really insightful. You're also a really great interviewer! You handled Paul's jibs at you really well !
Well I really enjoyed and was playing along with you guys!
I met Paul at an event in Portland several years ago. He is really the nicest dude around. Really great guy. He's totally passionate about his work.
Great! love the video :)
btw excellent tone with your prs!!!
PRS guitars are stunning to look at and amazing to play.
unexpectedly to see this from Paul.. he's a nice guy and act like regular people although he own such a big company and high quality guitar! Much respect! Enjoyed this video!
One of the best vids I’ve seen w PRS. Quirky guy but really enjoyed this. Thx Tyler.
I love Paul Reed Smith! The guy rocks!!!
that's was cool dude!!! so fresh, so natural, nice job!!!
Very refreshing interview, thanks :-)
Great job Paul! Saw him at the McLaughlin Herring concert at Keswick and the first thought through my mind was that this man will do anything to take care of his customers and you know what, that clearly includes all of us not just the high profile players. ( and Paul was right that show was one gigantic goose bump beginning to end! Search for the double neck PRS Paul made for John. Straight from heaven)
Awesome!
Wow Mann! What a humble man! Owning such a huge brand!
Don't get me wrong, PRS is a big big name (and my favorite guitars, period). However, PRS is not a "huge" brand in comparison to some others such Fender, Gibson, Ibanez or even Godin now.
For instance, in one of the last Know Your Gear video, Phil said PRS are doing 1,000 guitars / months... while Gibson do 8,000 guitars / months and Fender do 1,000 guitars / day. So yes, having 260 employees in the US, and being a brand in business for 30 years, having guitars played by some of the top guitarists out there, it's definitely a huge accomplishment... and not a small boutique numbers. But it's not a huge brand... it's more a famous one, if you know what I mean.
PS: And personally, I don't think it's bad, because it help Paul to keep the PRS brand as a big "small company"... when companies comes "huge brand", they very often forget their true core values, becoming just greedy and don't care much for neither their employees nor their customers. I hope it makes sense...
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thanks to mr. Reed Smith and you, Tyler. Thanks for sharing, mate \m/
I had a PRS SE once and I still regret selling it to this day. It was an awesome guitar.
It was a Mikael Akerfeldt signature and I sold it because I decided I couldn't "live" with the big O logo on it.
I love Opeth, but still. I should've just refinished it.. doh
Enjoyable. Huge PRS fan. Your discussion on intervals is one underscore of why musicians, of all styles, should be studying counterpoint. You can NEVER have a really strong understanding of harmony without some good counterpoint knowledge under your belt
And here I am watching lots of videos waiting on Fedex to deliver my PRS McCarty 594 I purchased from sweet water. I couldn't sleep last night waiting for this!!!!!
Great video. Having met Paul a number of times, he is a great guy to talk to. Oh and i own six of them! All great but my 2009 McCarty is the best guitar I have ever played. Perfection.
FINALLY!! I don't have a twitter but I really should have made one to recommend a question!
I love this guy
makes me soo glad to be a PRS player
I LOVE PRS.
Didn't make every letter capital on purpose, just worked out that way haha
navyguitarist Paul is always interesting. ALWAYS
Paul is such a raw nerve and such a funny dude.
I really love how Paul is into the social media thing. Now I'm pushed a bit more, again, to actually buy PRS.
uncle tyler
why dont you do blues-men habits?
like Peter green, Albert King, otis rush, etc
it would be great
at least, i would love it
Blackened_Sun Tyler should definitely do Albert King!
Ah, Peter Green is my favourite player ever. I get shivers when I hear Man of The World!
Good job, Tyler. Mr. PRS seems like a good guy. Although he seems a bit challenging to interview. Sometimes he is a tad overly defensive. I guess this may be partly due to fact that he faces the realities of running a business. His guitars are wonderful as are the amps. I have owned a few and loved them all. I wish continued success to you, Paul and his business.
Awesome!!
The Chris Robertson SE in blue is absolutely beautiful.
Tyler/PRS, on the Whole Lotta Love riff, while Page bends that second (and fourth) note, he is also playing the open D string underneath it, so there is a slight chorusing with the detune of the bend on that note. Learned that from a recorded interview with him on TV years ago. I wish I could remember the show it was on to look up the archive.
God dammit Tyler switch to a clean channel when in front of the master!
When the foot got in the door. All went to plan! Hahah. Would love to try a PRS.
I like the [make a joke about drummers] [does your own "da-dum-cssshhhhttt"] Paul did at the beginning there. lol
I Enjoyed
Think the Chris Robertson will be a Christmas present to myself
A paul reed smith guitar is my holy grail. One day I will own one. They're quality is incomparable
MilkyDudzz I know of the SE line, fantasic instruments. However, growing up about 20 mins outside of PRS HQ I feel like I should represent by getting a Maryland made
I've never played the SE line and I cant hope to afford a core model anytime soon either. Dont sleep on the S2 line. American made guitar with Korean hardware and electronics. I love my Vela!
Ending with R. Trower, Nice interview!
First song I try on a guitar, man on the Silver Mountain by rainbow, very fun ,and yes, james brown, love it!!!
Toy Caldwell from Marshall Tucker Band was a Wizard. Loved his playing !
Uljepšo si mi dan
Look at the beautiful grey tiger pattern on Paul's axe, they're amazing things (guitars I mean not the tiger. Although tigers are amazing too but you can't play them)
Thank you. Goodnight
very cool
Paul is an Icon and great guy who LOVES guitars. Who better to build them?
You both rock out
Would love to learn from you Tyler.....but can't afford it lol
So unfair- my hero
this feels like it could have come out during corona, glad it's not dated :)
Bought my first PRS because of this. Needs some truss rod asjuadjustments out of the box, but plays well for the most part
I’ve never been so proud to play a particular piece of gear like I am with a PRS. I have 4 of them and I hope with more time the collection will grow. I need a new Custom 24-08 so I don’t need to ever play a strat or a non-prs Guitar again! I also have a Prs tattoo myself, I’ll be a player for life
Yo, I went to a clinic with Paul Reed in NC, he is a true showman
Honestly there's a reason why prs is so good they are just like Gibson back in the 50s-70s they honestly care about quality unlike Gibson nowadays were quality control is garbage compared to prs and I'm not gonna take away their glory by saying they are the new Gibson cause they are not they are prs and that's why people buy it.
I agree
The burst was due to Gibson guitars getting faded while sitting in the store windows and the sun shining on them. The '59 Les Paul was originally a failure which is why there are so few originals. PRS's core is quality control and pretty guitars first. Gibson guitars come in like 5 colors and if one wants a colorful Fender guitar, it has to come out of the Mexican factory. Now other companies are trying to mimic PRS over Gibson and Fender. More guitars are coming in those pretty colors with a setup right out of the box.
Anyone else think Paul and Tyler talking about pasta noddle diameter is funny? 😂
Could you do a Habits of Plini video? I think it would be really cool coming from you!
What other top guitar maker can you have a close friendship because of youtube...you and paul are a great fit
I love this podcast, but I'm very biased because I'm just a PRS fan... A friend of mine one day, talked me into PRS and showed me his guitars... I tried them, and since I'm just a fan and I bought few already and want way more! I a big "bird inlays" fan too :)
And maybe just like Tyler, it seems like playing a guitar with bird inlays is something "different" from the rest of the crowd... and that's maybe why, now I'm not even interested into buying a PRS without bird inlays...
Real awesome Tyler!!! Will you be doing another give away once you reach 300k? Paul is genuine and freaking awesome!! 😃
I'm looking for a new, and, in case of electric guitars, my first slightly more expensive guitar, and I thought about getting a PRS SE 245... Any thoughts?
Where is Bethany? #JusticeforBethany
She'll be back next week, don't worry ;)
At my place.
Emmanuel C. Shit bro savage😂
Calvin Mulder,😎
this video is great Paul sounds like a real down to earth funny guy but at the same time you my friend were being trolled by the master. In 2 weeks im buying a custom 24 and it will be my first PRS I have been a hardcore Ibanez player for 16 years anda fender player for the past 3 so time to get the guitar of my dreams and start a new page in the book with a PRS.
great interview. Anybody knows what is the name of the Hendrix book is referring to?
Only info I am finding on that Hendrix book Paul is talking about is one that came out back in 95-96...I am wondering if that's the one he is talking about.
Hard not to love. What was the Hendrix book? Tried amazon could only find one from 1995.
That Zebra Wood one is soo nice...I want...
Nice podcast
Need to what he meant by 12 kinds of chords
35:00 Yes, but I just hope next time, Paul can have a skype or facetime setup for you both see each other; it's not really for the audience, but more for you both, it generally helps to see people when having an interview. My 2¢
Great
I'd take one of those 24's w/Floyd Rose yeah!!!! That's Nice. I hope they keep that up & have em on the SE line. Please Paul More Floyd's….That's cool about the Bird Records song birds that is that inspired Paul to use the Bird Inlays I love the bird inlays I'd like a Sanata size w/a Floyd Rose w/the Birds w/that Owl at the end.
I imported one of the PRS SE Custom 24 guitars with the maple fret-board, and I just love it! That said, I'd sure love to see PRS do the full-figured tops on some of their cheaper guitars. It's no longer a "special" thing to have such a carved top, considering that some of the cheapest brands on the market have a similar look. Why make your $1000+ guitars look WORSE just for model differentiation and delineation when a $200 Harley Benton looks BETTER than those models?
I would like to buy a PRS but I know nothing about them, Which should I buy??
i cant find a prs for reasonable price in india , i cant wait to pick up a prs
TheStonedGamer9 it all depends on what you mean by reasonable price bro! Better get one from US brought to you by a friend!
PRS SE Standard. best guitar in its price point.
Go for a prs se probably used tremonti custom they come around 25-35k
I'm too from INDIA bro.. Did you get any help??
Just saw another guitarist point out the fact that sometimes it's harder to play with distortion than without...so playing "clean" all the time doesn't translate to better playing when distorted. I can vouch for that. Poor muting technique is especially highlighted when distortion is on.
Since i started playing a PRS all the other guitarists are jealous of me! (lol you can use my phrase for marketing!)
Only Hendrix book on sessions I can find is: Jimi Hendrix: Sessions: The Complete Studio Recording Sessions, 1963-1970 Paperback - December 1, 1996 Obviously not just released. Is this the one Paul was referring to?
No answer from either Tyler or Paul? What's up Tyler? I bought the complete studio recording one. I guess I'll have to send Tyler a personal note to find out. Or maybe ask PRS if I can figure out how to?
Not a peep
are these podcasts somewhere else, like spotify or something ?, it'd be really cool to listen to them on my way to work
On iTunes here bit.ly/MiWpodcast and still waiting for a response from Spotify folks.
I just got a new 2017 PRS maple limited Edition: czcams.com/video/QUGqMF0CFds/video.html
What exactly is that color on Paul’s guitar
Paul is Paul, he knows stuff.
the moment he answered his wife on the phone I nearly spit all out the tea I was drinking
What amp should i buy!! Marshall Dsl40c or a Blackstar or Ibanez tsa15h Budget 800€, for Home and Garage. Previous amp Avt100=awful sounding.
Buy a DSL40C, you won't regret it, trust me. Hope I helped :)
You want a 12" speaker with 92Db rating or better and with a solid state amp, use a distortion pedal (not an overdrive pedal because there is nothing to overdrive) for the distortion.
orlock20 I want to buy a tube amp not a solid state amp, and no pedal.
Matija Golubovic thx;)
MusikMusik Egnater Tweaker 15 head. Set it on hot and put the gain up. Try the middle setting vox n u won’t need a pedal. If u want clean there’s a fender switch lower the gain and the hot input. There’s a Marshall switch too. Lots of options, reasonably priced. Lunchbox size. Get maybe a line6 cabinet 12 inch speaker. It sounds great they’re not a lot either. That tweaker and can us$ comes to about $6-800. Less if u buy used. FYI Bogner designed the line6 cabinet.
