LateNightGaming, I don’t think Chief even knew about it. The first intro to Blue Team in Halo 5 seemed to indicate that Chief was running ops for weeks or months even without downtime. The UNSC Infinity clearly has a lot of push from ONI and I don’t think anyone was going to lay a finger on Chief - unless directly ordered by ONI, cue Locke.
The whole story of Hunt the truth, ONI trying to frame the Chief and the rest of humanity’s reaction to everything should have been the story of Halo 5, would’ve proved to be such a unique and interesting campaign

This quote was Black-Box being what it is best, a jerk, as it explained the function of ONI to Kilo-Five, a black ops unit of 3 ODSTs and a Spartan that runs directly under Osman.

ONI was pretty genius with the whole FERO scheme. Get Ben to trust a “rebel insider”, and then organically shut him down on live TV. By using an asset they already possessed (Ben), ONI was able to control the narrative Ben thought he was independently making against ONI and also the pace at which Ben developed his own plan to expose ONI. In other words, Ben's investigative reporting against ONI was an ONI operation from the very beginning. I’ve never seen a more insidious, cunning organization in video game lore.
It’s a shame what happened to Ben, ONI deserves to be destroyed. Seeing him as a shell of his former self in season 2 made it all worse.
That along with simultaneously covering up their fuck up with the Peace Conference by framing Chief. Like goddamm ONI.

Lol everyone is bitching about halo 5’s marketing but low key the game would have been way better if they’d just made it about the events in this video. They create all this hype and we thought the campaign was going to be set in this whole, hunting the Chief thing, but then the campaign was completely different, which is why people got mad at the misleading marketing.
The Highground Yeah absolutely right, it’s a shame we didn’t get the story we were sold on. I remember seeing the Locke advert and then the Chief advert on TV and almost yelling out loud at how badass it was looking!
Hopefully Infinite can bring it back around, though it has already been rumoured that there are gonna be microstransactions, so we’ll see how that game develops over time.
While your not totally wrong, I think it was a business decision to "try and keep things fresh." Seriously look at the Forerunner tech now, it looks almost like it doesn't even belong in the same game as the original trilogy. But capitalism is how we role. Also if I'm not wrong fighting humans woulda made it too similar to Call of Duty for their liking.
Chief and the Spartan IIs were litterally made to kill Humans from the get go. The Covenant just happened to stumble onto Humanity. Honestly, having a mission where Chief kills humans would have not only made him more badass, but it would add a whole lot of depth to Chief. And that would be sick.
Halo 5's story would have been better if Fireteam Osiris was hunting Blue Team because of this, and as the story progresses you learn the truth behind the cover-up. And, the marketing would make sense.
Initially, I actually thought Locke was going to be tasked with leading Blue Team (because he's an expert manhunter and they know Chief better than anyone) to hunt down Chief and that Chief would be looking for something Forerunner to resurrect Cortana which ONI feared could have unintended consequences.
This was a missed opportunity. This would been a better plot than the actual halo 5 story, which is a mess.
But instead we just got robot overlords and floaty bits.

I wonder if Cortana might have a hand in that, even if she's gone nuts, I can't imagine she'd be too happy with how they treated John or Halsey for that matter. She might just take it as her responsibiilty to reveal all of ONI's secrets and the lies and coverups to irreperably damage trust not only in ONI or the UNSC, but in the governing bodies themselves...now the question is if 343 can actually pull that off or not.

There’s so many factions that it could be done, the covenant is good now but there’s still the banished, brutes, flood, promethians and the covenant that doesn’t side with chief but sides with ONI. Kind of like how you fought the covenant as the arbiter in halo 2

A factor a lot of people that are asking "why do this" are forgetting is Halsey. ONI ordered Halsey's death and were scapgoatting her for a lot of the black op stuff they did prior to and during the war. John was still loyal to Halsey, probably more so than he was to the military. If he discovered they had ordered her death or if he ever managed to rescue her, they'd have humanity's greatest hero AND his super intelligent science mom angry at ONI. They'd probably been looking for a reason to kill and/or disgrace him ever since Halsey was arrested.
Not to mention in the beginning of Halo 4, Chief is thought to be dead and Halsey suspects they're looking to replace him. Hell, that "interrogation" could've been for ONI to get their story and facts straight while preparing to pin the whole thing on Halsey. So it's possible that when Chief turned out to be alive and Halsey wound up in Jul M'dama's custody, that threw a wrench into the whole thing.
to be fair, Halsey's Spartan op was one of ONI's black inked op that only came into light due to the Covenant invasion of Reach.
No one knew of the spartans' existence and how they came to be. As for Spartan I, they are pretty much soldier volunteers and so no one really questioned it if Spartan IIs were operating as they'd think that they were just another Spartan I.

In-game I'd always been so caught up in fighting the Covenant and the Flood that I never stopped to question if ONI were bad guys or not. This video was interesting stuff.
ONI kibda sold me on them being one of the many bad guys when they kidnapped kids to put down an Insurrection and be used as the big bad secret enforcers.

We all know that he is willing to trust his judgment and turn on the UNFC and ONI for the sake of protecting humanity if the situation calls for it, and while the UNFC is much more "honest", ONI is walking that fine line between helping humanity and throwing humanity under the bus for their own interest, so its not like they'll never be in Chief's scope.
Ben's story was so amazing, and sad. I looked forward to every new entry n it was always crazier than the last. Poor dude.

I’m amazed ONI had the balls to initiate a manhunt considering who they were hunting. I laugh at his aging Spartan quip cause John 117 is younger than the guy, physically and maybe even chronologically.
It was so satisfying seeing him shrink at Chief simply saying two incredibly polite words that respected his rank:
"No, sir."
Del Rio was a mouse of a man next to John, and he knew it; and i'm not talking about John's size. While he was right to be concerned for the safety of the crew and Cortana's rampant state, he ultimately cared more about putting feathers in his cap than anything else. He abandoned John on Requiem, and I don't blame Hood for canning him for that.
Del Rio was picked as the Captain of Infinity because he was nothing more than a stuffed shirt. ONI wanted Lasky as the captain, Admiral Hood wanted someone that ONI hadn't sunk their hooks into. So neither got what they actually wanted... But in war, stalemates are still a victory.
@@nercksrule This right here is one of many, MANY reasons the Kilo-5 trilogy are my 3 least favorite Halo books (the biggest reason being that the entire trilogy feels like a 3-book long handjob from Karen Traviss to the entire ONI org). I was so happy that ONI didn't get their man put in charge of the Infinity and then it turns out that Del Rio was a massive shitstain anyway.

sgt hans, not sure what the UNSC is up to now that Cortana has control of earth and most of the inner colonies. Chief is still struggling with some PTSD after Cortana’s death, return, and betrayal. I don’t think Chief cares much at all what anyone thinks of him. The end of Halo 4 shows he’s not sure what to think of himself. Is he man or machine? The machine is following orders running ops, the man is chasing his lost AI companionship. In Halo 5 Chief fails to hold both of his identities.
The story of one of ONI's dark secrets reminds me of Vought American's. A corporation from the comic book series called The Boys, where they create Superheroes by a drug named Compound V and hiding the true origins from the public by telling false stories about their heroes.

This is what means to be a hero. Heroes aren't the people in shining armour riding on white horses, they are the people who are doing whatever it takes to do the right thing. Sometimes to do the right thing you gotta sacrifice your life, your good name, your freedom, your principles and more, even if everyone is going to hate you in the end. Do not judge ONI for destroying Chief's public face, for they merely doing what is required to protect both themselves and the good mental health of the citizens. Sometimes to do the right thing you gotta do really ugly things.

So you're telling me Osman would allow a fellow Spartan II, THE Spartan II, to take the fall for a peace treaty gone awry? She's not that petty of a character and her time with Naomi shows she doesn't have anything against her brothers and sisters. This quite literally doesn't make any sense and Osman would catch wind of this and make it right.
However if 343 had gone with this route instead of Halo 5's it would make sense as to why Cortana would go against humanity as a whole and want to save John and the rest of Blue Team. To cut off the very man that saved humanity at least three times and discarding him. I'd be mad at ONI too.
ICONIC INTRO
This whole thing makes for an interesting story, but I can help but think that it makes no sense at all. Master Chief knows just about everything, but there was no sign of insubordination, and he is a fantastic symbol and weapon. Blaming him would just put other Spartans in a bad light. They wouldn't even need a convenient scapegoat, since the anti-sangheili forces are obviously at fault. Even their story is pretty shaky. Why would Master Chief kill humans, and not Sangheili? Master Chief is human, so killing humans and saving the Sangheili he had fought for over 20 years doesn't make sense. If he didn't want peace, than killing Sangheili would have been a far more effective method of doing that, since it brings up questions about humans are trusworthy. The whole story doesn't sound right, and anyone who is smart would see through it pretty easily.

I have played Halo 3, quite recently actually. However, that's a very small portion of the human-covenant war. The Chief had been fighting them for decades before this, so if I were to lie about the Chief, I could say that he only teamed up with the Sangheili out of necessity. It wouldn't be too hard to convince people that he planned on killing them after the Covenant were disbanded. That makes just as much sense as him becoming best friends with his previously mortal enemy.

Yes, ONI could imprison any one person who spoke up against them, but if a big enough group started to question them, ONI wouldn't be able to stealthily take them all down. They could, but they would run the risk of their lies being uncovered.

Awesome video man!!! Also here’s a crazy plot twist for the whole halo lore, what if someone betrayed the human race and lied to the San Shyuum about the halo rings and lied to the humans? And this person led the covenant to reach and other human colonies just so that none of the humans will get in his way. Then the covenant found halo and going on with the original halo lore, but what if everything we did was a trap to the human race (with all the governments like oni and all military forces) so this person could rule everything. And secretly make “invincible” ships and get power over everything. Almost like the empire off of Star Wars but 100x worse. Then you have this specific classified family that can only stop this person and when the finale comes in let’s say 2675 (let’s use that year for now) it all happens. The persons offsprings take over and unleashes billions upon billions of ships having shields that would take every nuke and last bit of everything and multiply that by 20x to take out the shields and the nearly indestructible hull. Then the offsprings of this insane person decided to make a weapon that can take out a whole galaxy, they had made multiple prototypes and all but one were unsuccessful. But this war with this enemy would be the biggest and if not deadliest and most dangerous and important war in any creature and living things history. But the origins of this enemy are classified. But they are bigger than oni, and this family I spoke of are highly classified and are the strongest humans/Spartans ever, and most skilled. Better than the master chief and anyone that has ever walked the earth. And made other soldiers about as good as them somehow. And yet they are still classified because of reasons. But anyways what if this was the biggest plot twist yet? Would you like to know more about this “plot twist” that I have in mind that could actually be a plot twist and we don’t know it yet? 0-0 and what do you think of this Xperia? And I know it sounds way far fetch but it could be interesting lol

Being taken from his home as a kid, put through a hellish modification procedure and training regimen, forced into military service, having his whole life prior to becoming a Spartan kept from the general public...and now to top it off, being framed for an act of terrorism when he was actually saving the lives of hundreds of humans and Elites at a peace delegation...
