    As usual, the poor Sri Lankan cricket administration wasn’t keen enough to preserve this valuable player. I have seen his talents many times. The first test match win against India was my most remarkable memory of him. He was a good all-rounder. I heard that he has a remarkable sixer at “Sahaja Cricket Stadium”. We were lucky to be eyewitnesses of good world cricket spirits in those days. Thanks, RR!

    Watched him in Pakistan in the early 90s. He had some decent wheels. A very good bowler

    Ratnayeke brothers Rumesh and Ravi were great bowlers in Sri Lanka Cricket team who retired by 92 World Cup. Within a year after retirement Ratnayeke brothers the bowling legends seamer Chaminda Vaas and spinner Muthiah Muralidharan filled the void in Sri Lankan cricket team.

      They are not brothers.... Ravi retired 1991 and Rumesh was retired 1994.. Both were all rounders as well as Rumesh was big hitter.

    Rumesh had a sharp bouncer. He was much better than Ravi. Really nice swing bowling with good pace
    on the video. Respect from Pakistan.

      @@saleemkirmani5583 I am from India.I have heard about him that in ind tour of sl 1985 2nd test which was sl first ever test victory he decimated us.They won the series 1-0.Was he really fast?

      @saleemkirmani5583 Před 3 měsíci

      @iamaformerhistorystudent I'm from Pakistan. I don't know how he bowled against India. Ravi was fast medium to medium fast. He swung the ball and bowled at a good pace while taking 8 wickets in an innings against Pakistan. However, he wasn't consistent. He was quite playable most of the time. Rumesh's bouncer was very awkward and dangerous. He hurt top batsmen with it.

      @saleemkirmani5583 Před 3 měsíci

      @aritradatta1981 Unfortunately, so. T-20 has destroyed the game. Even ODI'S are heavily tilted towards batsmen. The WI win vs Australia which resulted in a 1-1 result, showed that test cricket is always the best format. First class cricket in England is no longer as strong in the 70's and 80's by any means.

    Rumesh had a quick slingy action , sometimes hard to pick ball from hand. A terrific Sight to see him running In , hair billowing underneath the John McEnroe headband & all😃....but what endeared me to him was I always felt he was a Free spirited guy, always smiling, he played with a sense of enjoyment. Not an ugly sledging scimitar wielding megatoth..
    As a indian supporter I remember him in 1985 - he had some funny on field moments especially with Gavaskar. Even thogh we lost that series, he - asantha de mel & saliya ahangama were a handful & throw in the artistry & wizardry of Roy Dias & the hard hitting duleep memdis, SL team was a good one.
    Thanks for the memories!!
