  • An entertaining opening bat (just look at the cherries!) in 72 Test innings for India, Kris Srikkanth's first Test century came in the 1985-1986 series against Australia at the SCG where he hit an explosive 116 off 117 in an opening stand of 191 with the great Sunil Gavaskar.

On the way to AVM school at my 7th standard, wearing a military bag in both of my shoulders, holding an umbrella in one hand & hearing the commentary of this Sydney match with a pocket radio by the other hand, on a rainy day in Chennai, Srikkanth too raining with runs. Kriss smashes 4 consecutive boundaries of Australian Dave Gilbert, in his century knock, came to know through the transistor. No one in the road, but I saw a family watching this Sydney match in their home thru TV. Cant control my emotion & eagerness. Suddenly entered in that house & requested that family for allow me to watch Srikkanth innings. They permitted me &
    I enjoyed, Kriss's maiden ton.

Krish Srikkanth was ahead of his time - the first one to start hitting over the top in the powerplay overs in ODIs as soon as that was introduced. Then Jayasuriya and others followed, but it was this man's abandon that brought joy to the game and made so many possibilities appear. He could devastate a bowling attack. Alan border was in awe of chikkas batting..He was there along with viv richards as the most distructive batsmen of his era. And no opening batsman was like him till he arrived.
He is the one who created a path for others to score fast inside 15 overs using field restrictions .grame hick, jaya suriya were his followers.

Srikkanth never cared who the bowler was. If there was a chance to crack a six or a four, he never missed it. People were afraid to bowl to him and wanted him out of the field as soon as possible since the longer he stayed the more runs he scored. I admire this fearless batsman to this day- the Vivian Richards of the Indian team.

If he mellowed down, he simply wouldn't be Srikanth. And he would not be remembered all these years later. He simply did not have the game to build long innings etc. Figured that attack was his best bet to gather runs before he got the inevitable good delivery. He himself said as much in a TV interview once.
