- Despite retiring hurt overnight on 39 after a nasty knock on the arm, Sunil Gavaskar returned to the crease, smashing the Aussie attack all over the Adelaide Oval. He went on to post his 9,000th Test run on his way to 166 not out during the First Test of the 1985-1986 series.

How are you grandpa??
Sunil Gavaskar's influence went beyond the stats, incredible as they were. He brought to Indian cricket professionalism, class and a sense of pride.
and toughness. He's the toughest player of all time
Today's kids will never know about Gavaskar...He was pure gem of a cricket
Yeah i know you are 120 years old person..
Isn't it !!

@@logicalbrain4641 yeah I know that u started watching cricket from 2011 world Cup and think that Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are the only cricketers of India, there were no great players before them

Boring as batsh$t , they aint missed much! Flat track bully like Warne, those 100s against WI were on flat tracks, and against weaker attacks...
Thanks cricket Australia for uploading this masterpiece ❤️
Sunil Gavaskar is a gem of a player, technically superb with immense level of concentration
To play against those tall and fast bowlers of Aussie and WI with this kind of helmet(without grill) and score more than 10k runs with average of 50+, this is what makes Gavaskar great ❤️
Noone can match that greatness❤️
No disrespect to Sachin or VK, but SRT always had Dravid/Lawman to company, VK has Rohit/Pujara/Pant, but this man, Gavaskar was lone warrior of that batting line up.
Yes, few others also played some good innings, but mostly it was Gavaskar in TEST who stood there all the time when team needed.
In my opinion, He is THE GREATEST TEST BATSMAN OF INDIA BY SOME DISTANCE. considering the bowlers he faced without helmet.
Thank you cricket Australia for this video ❤️😍
And there were no restrictions against bouncers in an over.
I second you
You should know Sachin played most of 90's matches with some match fixers in his team.
That skul cap came only after 30 years of age.

This is beautiful batting. It is sad to see Indian batting in last 10 years with no balance on the back-foot. No late-cuts, no paddle sweeps, no beautiful flicks.
But current Indian players play well in Australian condition as compared to other conditions.
@@ashishaj8475 Hear. Hear. It’s become India’s second home.
Yeah. But the backfoot game is non existent. Our wins are mainly because of bowlers, I guess.

A time when real cricket used to be played.Great competition, great level of concentration and determination.Balanced between bat and ball.
Gaveskars flick of his legs towards mid wicket is almost the same that of Sachin's. How blessed India was to have these 2 play for us.
And then kohli
Sachin may has always credited Sunny and Richards his ultimate role models so naturally he has taken some shots from Sunny and some from Viv.
God of batting! Never seen a better test batsman in my life. Any modern coach will sacrifice his right arm to have an opener half as good.
The timing of his shots was always impeccable! Still unmatched! ❤🙏
That's one and only Sunny Gavaskar....sheer concentration and placement Breath taking innings
For those who admire art it’s such a pleasure to watch his batting.
What a class ...when he rolls wrist on the ball...Often you hear from your coach play on the up...young generation here, if any ? should watch in slow motion. Lot to learn - Also, when he allows the ball till his foot and if anyone knows about batting, You can see how he transfers his weight when goes on front foot..pure elegance..
Just watching these shots, pure gold..
I Have no idea how players used to play so fearlessly without proper helmet those days...Increadible
I remember most of this series during my childhood.. listening to radio commentary was fantastic..That Indian team was very strong.
No stats can define or justify the influence and importance of Sunny Gavaskar in Indian Cricket's evolution.
Todays kids trolling him without even knowing his greatness
Boring, Kohli/ Rohit any day thanks..
@@thrusta100 lmao! 🤢
@@thrusta100 Your Kohli and Rohit would have popped within the first over in those days against that sort of bowling. I have seen Kohli in action in England in what is widely touted as one of his best performances ever - fishing outside the off stump continuously with at least 3 dropped dollies in every hundred he scored. He wouldn't have been so lucky in those days!

Test. Yes.
13 centuries against the most lethal pace attack of all time. Speaks about his greatness. No one comes close to him. The second best is 7.
Gavaskar did not score 13 centuries against the 4 horsemen. He scored 6 centuries against them, and all of those 6 centuries came on flat, lifeless tracks. For this reason,Michael Holding gave him the nickname - FLAT TRACK specialist.
Those fearsome fast bowlers from West Indies , Australia ...not plain batting pitch like nowadays , and without helmet. The greatest batsman and best era of cricket
Greatest Indian test opener.
The legend of Indian Test Cricket.
Great cricketing legend in action.
Today, few play as graciously as Gavaskar !
One of the greatest knocks of his career!
This man was at another level during his playing days. Very few, if any, compare to him.
The Greatest Batsman of all time!!! An Opening batsman to garner so many runs in a test cricket era where the emphasis was on lasting for days and not slogging every ball, Master of technique (see the way his feet move, always in line of the ball, playing spinning balls on back foot) against the fastest and fiercest bowlers of cricketing history in their opening fresh spells. Against todays bowlers, fast out fields, helmets and powerful bats, Gavaskar would take every bowler to the cleaners and it would be very difficult to get him out. I see how today on turning pitches our best of batsmen cannot last for half a day, I have seen this man bat for days on extremely difficult spinning wickets on which no one lasted, no wonder the opponents loved and respected him hugely. He single handedly laid the foundation on which walked Tendulkar, Virat and Rohit Sharma.
I echo each of your statements apart from the last line perhaps. Not even Tendulkar was anywhere close to him in a testing pitch, leave alone Dravid (stale batting) and Rohit (poor technique against both fast and spin bowling).
Gavaskar is still the best batsman india produced.
When Sunny is on song India breathes a sigh of relief, safety and comfort...for over 16 years...
The flicks, straight drives, cover drives and leg glances will live on forever - no one to match that elegance and beauty.. timeless
He's a legend amongst batsmen. His brilliance is unmatched. Thank you Sunil for giving us so much pleasure ❤
The beauty of batsmanship !❤
What a player Sunil Gavaskar was!! Genius!!
Great knock from Great BATSMAN. No comparison with GAVASKAR. He stands alone in his technique .
How still he was! It wasn't possible for bowler to know weather he is gonna come in front foot or wait to transfer wait in backfoot, perfect technique
The real OG, The GOAT, The Sigma among sigma's
The best opening batsman Indian test team got from 1932 till date, a player who gave good justice to the position of batting as an opener in international test cricket - Sunil Gavaskar.
Apart from his superb craftsmanship, what I lived about him is the dignified manner in which he acknowledged the milestones in this innings. No hootin’ and hollerin’, no exaggerated celebrations, nothing outlandish, just a quick wave of the bat and a nod or two! Sheer class…both with the bat and as a person!
True Legend !
Legend in his own lifetime. The great Sunil Gavaskar. People often compare. SRT, Dravid, Gavaskar all are legends…
Pure class…its easy to forget how great this man was on a cricket field..
Whenever i see any "dream XI" and people don't include Sunil Gavaskar, i feel people forget so quickly
How can people forget 20 years legacy
probably in dream 11, current era player included. infact Sachin Sehwag also excluded.
All time great sir Sunil gavaskar 🙏
Best opening batsman in the history of test cricket. No one could match Gavaskar's technique.
Sunny included into test squad little late at that time. He is till now above all keeping in mind Sachin and Richards in regard to test playing condition. For one day Richards is the best.
Back in the 70s n 80s Indian Cricketers used to get 1250 Rupees for a test match Rs 250/day(25$)
Any extra amount with man of the match/series was precious
India was still a conservative "third world country" recovering from centuries of colonialism and destruction
The 1983 WC win did some good with respect to salaries which grew by 25%
They had 1 extra pair of clothes n 1 extra bat
To see such talented players working hard to merely put meals on the table is amazing!
It's amazing how much times have changed for the better!

"Sunny" days of "Sunny" bhai...a legend.
India should have won this series, they needed 70 or 80 runs when rain came, only it was Australian umpires who saved them and no play was resumed after tea. Well before neutral umpires and ICC. Also, in my view GAVASKAR defense was even better then Sachin. Forget about the new age batsman. His last innings in test a 90 against Pakistan was gem even though we lost that game.
