      I think it was just a coincidence, Aeolian was referring to major scale and harp was referring to the arpeggios

      @@bappy316Yeah, Chopin didn't name the Etudes himself, but it's still cool to see how people interpret such pieces with unique names. :)

      Nuffink.
      The harps only work with a steady light wind. In a storm, they will sit there with their arms folded, saying "so what".

    I love the scene where the bridge was falling as the Aeolian harp played... it invokes an eerie destruction.

    The sound you're hearing (in the first 30 seconds) is also being played by a *hermit thrush* (possibly one of the most beautiful sounds in all of nature)

    Moro no Brasil, fui saber que existia a Harpa eólica, no livro que leio todos os dias, manancias no deserto e me tou muito, saber que os ventos tocando na Harpa eólica, são vozes de anjos louvando através dos ventos.Incrivel pra mim.

    Apparently it was also used to talk to Aeolis, God of Winds, that's how I actually found out about it, curiosity of Aeolis

    how fast should the wind travel for for the harp to function?

      That depends on the strings (length, tension, mass, ...) but from what I've modelled, I can usually get a sound from about 1.5 - 2 m/s (3.5 - 4.5 mph). Harps and models can be quite unique though.

      It is. The "Aeolian Harp" etude reflects the slow harmonic changes of an aeolian harp accompanied by rapid arpeggios making it a rather challenging piece.
