With the New Year, the Flite Test crew decided to take a look back on 2016 and share some of their favorite DIY planes from this past year.
Thanks for the Shout Out guys! The Catalina was a group effort. I wouldn't have gotten it done with Todd and Kevin donating CNC time to cut the parts out on site, or without Ray and Matt who donated a ton of hours over several days to help me put everything together. Thanks to you all for helping, and for everybody else that stopped by to assemble a piece of the plane!
Thanks guys! Between the Arrow, Sea Otter and Sea Duck you guys have kept me and my Dad busy fly and having fun. I can't wait to do more in 2017. Building the Stem fleet next. ;)
Thanks so much for mentioning the B-17 that was the most fun I ever had with the least amount of sleep I've ever gotten.

We loved how you brought your friends along side you and accomplished something HUGE together and got the community involved! We are so thankful for you and the rest of the community that makes what we do possible!!

The FT Sea Duck is hands down the winner for 2016. I did some research on how to build one a couple years ago but never got around to it. Then I saw one hanging up in the background of one of your videos. I bought it as soon as it came out.
Still my favorite to fly in any conditions - snow, water, on the ground, in the air, dropping stuff from it, towing stuff.... Great plane.

I love all the selections. My favorite FT plane last year was the Mini F-22. It is so easy to fly and it goes like a rocket ship. Looks great in the air too.
Of course, I am in the process of building all three Mesa jets, can't wait for the snow to melt, or at least a decent winter day, to try them out!

yup I agree... lots of cool planes from 2016. My fav being the Seaduck since I loved the Talespin cartoon as a kid.

I couldn't help but notice the blue foamy in the background, it strongly resembles my 59" WS Slow-Fly Corsair F4U that I had designed and built back in October 2015. :D Unfortunately I can't post pics here, but I'm sure that I could create a photo sharing account if necessary. ;)

All great airplanes but for me #6 Sea Duck 105" airplane is the one I would love to have.
Aero FPV I want this giant plane. Tailspin is my favorite show from childhood memories. If they still showed it on tv. I would still be watching it. I so want the season dvds of it.

3d printed P38 is my number 1 favourite plane. It's a work of art and look so cool.
I just caught your channel and I'm totally surprised by the new ways and technology. I especially enjoyed the interchangeably of wings fuselage. Secondly I enjoyed the front view camera to fly.

I love my Kraken! I gave it retracts, OSD RTH by Arkbird paired with th Arkbird antenna tracker system. The 13 feet of lights as per your build. I'm shooting for 4 miles out next weekend.
I'll be building the FT Dusty Crophopper next. I love ALL of them. LOL I"ll never grow up.
You guys should do a competition on who can design and throw a paper plane that glides the furthest, ingenious.

Very inspiring.
Hard to say what my favorite was, but at the same time it's difficult for me not to simply knee-jerk for the Seaduck considering I loved that plane as a child. I kept a lego version I made of it well into my teens.
Then the P-38 is my favorite old warplane as well and that 3D printed version was gorgeous.....

Hey guys great content, my name is Jimmy and I have bin watching since the beginning I think you only had 3 episodes done when I fist started subscribing and it's my favorite show now and I have a great idea for an episode, what if you did a FPV scale cot pit of your favorite plane say like a dehavaland beaver use an old vehicle or maybe a wooden structure to build the cot pit interior add 2 tv screens as windshields or maybe even 3 if you can do it, take apart a remote to make real controls and place it all on the model with 3 cameras see if you can successfully take of, fly around and land as if you in a real plane.... hope you get my message best regards Jimmy

hey guys.. what kind of mat were you using as runway in the flitefest? We are looking for somthing like that for our field (grassy field) for microplanes with small wheels.. for now only cricket-mat ran bells...

hey guys, was wondering. how many servos does it take for normal flight controls as well as flaps. ive got a 4 ft wing span by-plane ive had it for yrs in a box. finally getting my money straight and the hobby shop i bought it from is closed now. alot of advice would be great. radio servos so on and so forth. thanks tim
