Wanted to thank you guys for getting me into flight about 7-8 years ago. Started with a Blade Nano QX. Yup, that tiny little brushed drone. Then took the FC, put it on a brushed carbon frame with 7mm motors and an AKK vtx and camera from Amazon. Shortly after I got the plans for the old FT spitfire, started flying that almost everyday, I worked on a golf course and had permission as long as there weren't golfers on that hole. 8yrs later and I have a dozen badass FPV drones, from a 75mm whoop to a 7" long range. I have the ft goblin with a 1000mw vtx and DVR with a mateksys wing fc running INAV (crashed really hard, just need to rebuild the nose cone) and I have a mighty mini Zero with a nano fpv cam and 500mw vtx. I run 850 4s, with a 2208 2400kv, 45a esc, and 6" prop. Awesome flying micro. It's a little heavy, but I like speeeeeed. I ordered the Master series corsair when it first came out, and lost it when I lost video over a forest one day. (I put fpv on everything). My next dream build from Flite test is the beech 18, with a 6000mah 3s and a long range fpv system. I have a crossfire PWM reciever that's been needing a home for years. And the beech 18 is one of the most beautiful planes you guys have made. I just wish the FW190 was around d the 1.2m size, along with the other warbirds.

In the past when getting a plane down from a tree, I've use an arborist throw bag. It's like a heavily weighted hacky sack with a line, that you can easily throw up the tree and wrap around the branch and then you just pull like crazy on the line and shake the plane down. The good part is you don't have to necessarily wrap the exact branch. usually you can just shake it down.

I'm sure you are not the first to get an aircraft stuck in a tree, and you'll not be the last.
How about making a dedicated quad aircraft recovery system that can poke, pull, catch, and maybe even lift, stricken aircraft out of high trees and difficult-to-reach places?
A friend of mine spent almost a year trying to recover an aircraft from a tree and eventually lost the aircraft after 10 months or so of trying to retrieve it with all manner of contraptions on a homemade 3D printed very large quadcopter, but after some strong winds apparently swept the aircraft away never to be seen again.
It would be fantastic to see your ideas on making such a recovery system to retrieve stranded aircraft.
    TIA,
    K.

8:40 Dangle a grappling hook 25 feet below a drone flown overhead. The other end of the string has a loop and a 200 foot long "circle" of 40 lb fishing line. Drone snags aircraft with hook and then releases the 25' grapple line. After drone on ground, use the 200 foot "circle" to transport a heavier duty cord thru the loop at top of grappling line. After heavy cord in place, yank it all down.

Hi guys. You all have inspired me to get back into building planes again. I just got back into flying again, after being out for about 15 years. I had an idea for a master build that you could try to design. The A-6 intruder was a remarkable jet. It had an incredible lifespan for the US Navy. As a veteran of the navy and a kid growing up of while my dad was in the navy, I got to see this plane a lot. With it's complex rounded nose and lines, I think that it would make a great build to try and make. Just thought I would throw this out there. Keep up the great work. You guys are sure helping people to get into the hobby. Thanks Jim C.

Around WW1 there was this idea of attaching some planes to the belly of a blimp and do exactly this.
Also, with the weight capacity I imagine the big planes has, you may be able to load with batteries and get a 20 flight time

    • @someoneontheinternetuvenev6268
      @someoneontheinternetuvenev6268 Před 2 lety +2

this actually was tried the by the US, but it was a huge failure. There were 4 builds, out of those, 2 were lost due to bad weather, one suffered some issues and was decommissioned, the 4th one was also decommissioned after seeing the failure of the first 3. Also it was really expensive as for safety they were using helium instead of hydrogen back then, but helium was really expensive and hard to get back then (based of my knowledge the US used 3/4 of its ENTIRE HELIUM for this project). So yeah, also with naval technology going through major changes really quickly soon the idea became practically useless.. fast forward a few years, with armored planes that were going 400mph easily this idea would be basically sending a crew of 60 (10 officers, 50 enlistees) to literal suicide with quite literally no practical use.

  • @thefamilythatfliestogether

Was up in a tree just yesterday rescuing my Mavic Air 2s after backing it in there on a manual orbit shot. While I was climbing is was thinking please don't break branches and also if only I had a second drone to carry a line up so that I could knock my first drone out without the 20ft climb. Looks like you guys proved the drone and line idea would've worked. Great rest of the video too. Now all you need to do is figure out how to land the little planes back on the mothership.

I managed to set my Sig Kadet MkII down in the very top of a 60+ ft. hackberry tree once. We got it down with the help from a .30.30 and .22 rifle. The .22 was more successful. The vertical fin got knocked off on the way down and there was one .22 bullet hole in the horizontal stabilizer. The next weekend the tree was gone and I replaced the K&B 35 with a K&B 40.

Maybe small coil springs on the launch rails, that get compressed during mounting?
    Your realeses seemed almost flawless.

Title made me think of a floating aircraft carrier launching RC planes on the water. What if you guys built another giant boat like the battleship but recreated a Nimitz class carrier or the Queen Elizabeth and tried to land planes onboard?

Dropping airplanes….. no big deal! I would like you guys to reattach them, kind of like the Goblin!

You guys need to get a lineman extendable hot stick. They are fiberglass and super sturdy. Well worth the money. Awesome at getting kwads out of trees as well. Will get you way up there. Collapses down nice and can fit in the bed of your truck.

Make remote foldable wings for the flerkens so they drop easier so the wings dont create lift while they're attached or dropping

I know y’all are mainly electric, if not 100%, but it would be sweet to try and set up an aerial refueling setup on a glow model.
