Guys, it's not multiplying by 80, it's multiplying by 64, 8 * 8. Somewhere in the code, the coordinate multiplication was done twice.

For those wondering about the portal bug, it was indeed a bug and it was fixed in the snapshot two months after this video was posted.

I really enjoyed this episode, even though it was short. This portal bug (or troll) is very interesting.
And don't listen to people complaining about the lack of video's, you deserve some time off and those commenters don't understand what kind of time and effort it takes to make videos.
Maybe Etho discovered a new secret dimension for 1.8, either that or the dev team have found a way to troll minecraftes :3

This video shows why you should never play seriously in snapshot. Snapshots are full of bugs and for test only.

There are people who makes backup so if things screw up in a snapshot, they can get everything back besides you can get the latest version which mean new things or wait like who knows how long till the new version is ready
Hahaha nice editing Etho! I downloaded the world, went into the latest snapshot, and tried to place the portal in the exact location and I turned out in an Ice Spikes biome and the coords were at a perfect scale from the nether. Good job Etho you had me convinced for a while there :D

Yep editing, really good too. Only a few details where off and one of them is his day count. Before entering he was at day 4375. After coming out he was on 4376.

Yep. Etho TOTALLY walked 80000+ blocks to go to that place to make his world extremely large so he could crash the website that he uploads his LP world on AGAIN.

My guess is that the chunk that you made the portal in is corrupted, but I think that the person who told you that the packed ice was there didn't know that the chunk would corrupt, try building the portal on another chunk, if it works you will just have to walk a bit more.

Etho, you should link the chest that the arrows are in to dispensers to kill the mobs. It's basically recycling!
When we says he went away for the weekend he means he went to E3 but nobody knows what he looks like to they don't know he went xD
For the tough zombies you could have a trip wire that is connected to a hopper timer which if run for long enough would activate an arrow dispenser that would fire until the pulse ends.
I was thinking the same thing! And the arrows should be replenished from the arrow chest...

Hmm... You traveled 64 Overworld blocks for 1 Nether block... Definitely a glitch with the game, as 64 is a power of 2.
unfortunately it is not 2 cubed...
It is 8 blocks, 8*8 is 64...
But it is 2 cubed squared! ;)

Etho!!! Your world is corrupt! You have to read the messages from the game launcher and if you see "Wrong Location! [Entity]", then you have to delete the chunk the given entity is located in. If you don't do it, the immense lag will soon start to appear and you can end up with up to 1.2k glitched entities (It happened to me aswell once)

Hey Etho, you should try and break the overworld portal. Maybe then the portals in the nether won't get linked to those coords.

Etho walking? Hell, I could watch that for 10 hours!
Once in a blue moon people stumble upon a zone and in that zone nothing works right. Portals offset you by hundreds maybe even thousands. Mobs will moon walk everywhere they go. Sand and gravel fall up and water doesn't flow. Some people call it a glitch, but I... I call it the Twicraft Zone!
That really is glitchy. I have been trolled by portals, never to that extent however. Funny business obviously, the quote "Fix yo' game, Dinnerbone!" comes to mind!

It would put you into shock, and you would bleed to death before you even had a chance to eat a significant amount of yourself. The shock would keep you from eating more, and you bleed to death over time. Something to this manner, I'm going off of the top of my head, so this might not be entirely accurate, but I think I have it close.

Looks like a bug in the new snapshot. The ratio of the nether co-ordinates to the normal worlds co-ordinates are 8:1. When you entered the portal, your co-ordinates multiplied by eight, then multiplied by eight again.
X Co-ordinates in the nether: 350 x 8 = 2800
2800 x 8 = 22400
Z Co-ordinates in the nether: -1250 x 8 = -10000
-10000 x 8 = -80000

In my opinion, I think the lava flowing was the reason why it took so long for the chunk to actually load and for him to get to the portal in the overworld. So, I mean that maybe the lava was flowing while he was "download terrain"

Why don't you download his world and go make a portal at that location in the nether to see if it goes to the absurd coords.

It seems that the portal teleported you 64 blocks per block in the nether. 80,000/1250=64 and 350*64=22400, which is roughly your co-ords.
Maybe the nether thing is logarithmic meaning that the further you go the high the ratio is between the over world and the nether?

Hey etho, if it teleported you by a factor of 80x, what if you went to the cords what would correspond to the right coords, so instead of -1250, go to -156 (divide by 8) or to -15.6 (divide by 80), and instead of 346 go to 43 (divide by 8) or 4.3(divide by 8), maybe you'll get similar results, if it would do the same for you

except its more of a chuck corruption glitch, which causes the portal calculation to run twice, so instead of sending him the usual 8 times, it sends him 64 times or 8^2. which in this case is actually what the coords calculate out to

Or, as you were 1000+ blocks out in the nether, if you do a portal it teleports you way out ? Kind of an exponential thing maybe ? Who knows, anyway it's hilarious so :)
That's not how programming works :p
They could slip and create a repeated line, or add a zero, as they work. But being over a thousand blocks out isn't the cause.
Still, I wouldn't completely eliminate the possibility of him being the troll.
I too thought it might be exponential now. But if it was, you either would be able to go through the portal back to the z=-1000 in the Nether, or you wouldn't go back to the same place from from the z=-10 000 in the Nether.
