- Minecraft survival. In this Minecraft episode we start and finish a new gold and ghast farm that will work fully automatically. This farm uses a trick with hostile mob and iron golem interaction that was introduced in the 1.8 snapshots.

I really liked the endstone on the build too... It fit so well in the build and it's not your usual building material. It gave the ruins a unique look.

An idea for your sword problem, also the time entities are left on the ground. What you should be aiming for is to empty the cart more often. For example, have a cart per row that just goes up and down, with a drop off point for each row at the end of it. This way the carts can do multiple passes before the 5min despawn of the items.
The dropoff hoppers could be all linked together to funnel the items into a central chest.
Your second custom tree looks almost as great as your first! :P My personal suggestion would be to go for a Mancave v.2 look- change the terrain to make tons of overgrown maze-like caves that run through the mountains using stone mixed with stone bricks, cobble, etc, and use those as your rooms. That'll be super easy and painless to build. :) Either way, it's ultimately up to you to decide how you want to build in the amplified terrain, and I'm sure it'll look great!

Tip for making ruins: First make a mock up NPC village or take an exsisting village and use flint and steel to make random building desctruction. then remove some of the stone used in the village. Last add vines, trees, and bone meal grass
ETHO! Keep the chaoticness in the ruins! Building it the picking an choosing the removed blocks will remove the wonder! its more natural to have chaos!

Etho, the F3 menu shows in game Minecraft days where as the statistics show real life days.
You have been in game for 4450 MC days.
Each MC day is 20 minutes.
Therefore you've been in game for ~62 days.
Your statistics only show up to the previous 14.18 days.
That is 22.9% of the total.
Using that information, and the number of deaths you've taken in the last 14 days, one can assume that as an average you have died.....

Are you deaf? Obviously you did not listen to the video. He said those minecraft days are not accurate because of all the times he has slept, gone afk, etc...
Going afk wouldn't effect it because it's an average. As long as he's been going afk throughout the duration of the world it would be factored in by nature.
Sleeping is a different thing however.
Each night is a maximum of 8 minutes; 40% of each day. Even if he slept every full 3rd night away, which seems like a good average judging by my own experience and watching others, you would only subtract 13% from my total. Resulting in 203.
Anyway, he's gotten between 190 and 250 deaths probably.

you do know that you ussualy skip 0-10 minutes of the day meaning your calculations can be 50% off meaning around 120- 360.

I liked the style of the ruins with Endstone! I think you should build them in whatever way makes you happiest!
Etho, since you are getting gold ingots from zombie pigmen, you can also get iron ingots from regular zombies, that are spawning along with zombie pigmen. Get 2 minecarts going, because there are only 5 slots for hopper minecarts, so you can gain iron along with gold! Good video! Like so he can see!
19:58 - It would be nice if you can collect the XP and put them into bottles. If villagers sell them... It makes some senses :)
Why make bottles of enchanting when you can get it all from zombie pigman? A waste of time for him honestly.

Also I think more he meant so you can collect the XP while AFK'ing so it was automatic. Like if you had a hopper minecart with empty bottles in it and they collect the XP orbs and fill up the bottles. That would make XP farms easy mode.

Etho's voice makes me reeaaaally sleepy. I swear, he has one of the most soothing voices ever.
Personally, I was a fan of the end stone. It added an accent color and was a unique asset to the build, as it is not often used.
I also liked the original overall design and technique. It was again, unique, and, on a larger scale, with some practice, it could really start to look nice.
This whole build is very unique, and I really think that that is what this channel is about (which is why I've said "unique" in every topic ive covered, apparently). Either way, I'm excited to see how this all pans out.
etho, if you want to be crazy, have an iron golem farm the droops fresh iron golems into the pig box, wont be a iron farm, just a bit of iron when/if the pigmen kill them
That would be nice if they change pigmens' AI and start attacking the golems again

I think that you should instead of ruins build just like a kingdom with towers and some vines and leafs, it would be nice with tall towers you could look at from a distance at your mountain base :) The buildings do not have to be destroyed :)
you won't get 100 % efficiency with one minecart: the minecart took more or less 1 min 20 secs to go halfway, so basically from one side to the other in 2 m 40 s, which means that a full cicle takes 5 m 20 s, and that is important because if something is dropped close to one of the sides right after the minecart has passed they will not manage to get collected in time before the hopper does a full circle and comes back. it's not much, but every ghast tear counts. 21:40 ehhhhhhhh, never mind, good work etho. i still have one concern though, won't small magma cubes spawn on the tracks?
The minecraft doesn't go back the way it came, after 2:40 it's done, then takes time to unload and starts over
if you didnt pay attention he said instead of doing the circle back around it takes a stright path back to the drop off station, so from start to finish (finish being after everything is unloaded) it might take 4 min in all, depending on the drops needing to be dropped off

That includes Mobs hitting him, TNT and Creeper Blasts, and all that stuff. Even his slime elevators.

I liked the ruins the way he had them.
The days in the F3 screen are in-game days and the days in the statistics are real life days, that's why there's such a big difference between them.

Etho, First of all let me say thanks for making great videos. Second of all I wish to ask what happened to 3 of your series'. Your Cube World series, your Pixel Piracy series and your Mindcrack SMP series all just stopped with out much of an explanation why. If you could tell us what happened to them and if there is a possibility of any of them returning in the future? Finally I wanted to ask about any series' you were thinking about starting. Please don't stop making awesome videos and you'll be at 2 million subscribers by 2015.
Cube World stopped because there were no new updates. But I can't answer to PP and M SMP
Pixel Piracy, he played it as a hardcore challenge, so once he died he stopped the series. Minecraft SMP is not stopped, or at least it's very unlikely it is. Simply there is nothing to do on the multiplayer server that he can't do on his singleplayer because people don't play on the server that often.
Cube world got super boring and repetitive to him, He died in Pixel Piracy so he stopped the series, (he said he might continue the series one day), and the mindcrack server is pretty unstable atm with the snapshots, plus he is so into te crackpack server. I am 100% that he will upload mindcrack episodes at some point, but I'm really enjoying crack pack right now.
He explained pixel piracy in his first and last episode. I dont get what you mean with minecraft smp so I cant answer that and the cube world is because he did it all i think so he was waiting for an update or that was teraria series...

For the gold farm you can make it so one minecart departures when another one arrives, that way you can have 2 minecarts without having a conflict. For building ruins you can build everything out of one block type (stone brick) and then replace blocks adding decay and adding blocks like leaves for detail decoration. I think setting some rules like how you can set the decay would help you build quicker. Anyway, love the video's!

You can divide the square into a smaller rectangles. Each one will have his own minecart and unloading station. This could solve the problem you have with picking up the swords, without filling any chesth with "whitelisted" items.
I actually agree that the End Stone looks good with green, but the Nether Bricks gotta go.

Etho, what happened to your map making series? I remember in the last few episodes you said you wanted to get the map finished and actually start working a lot on it, but we haven't seen an episode in a while. I am sure others are missing it too! Keep up the good work!
Etho instead of gun powder (sense you have tons) you should have it may be pick up iron from the zombie drops.
I doubt it gets very much iron, not nearly as many zombies die as the pigmen. and you only see 3-4 gold ingots from the pigmen when he runs down there to check it out.
yeah but he has so much gun powder. Like he will never run out. And there will be more zombies deaths than ghasts.

I understand its a rare drop. And it is really no extra effort just switching the gun powder with an iron ingot in the hoppers. But, golden ingots are also a rare drop and you saw how many he got. What I am saying is iron ingots are more practical because he has no need for gun powder.
Yeah, why would he want to go AFK for a long time to come back and find only 11 iron ingots in his chest. If his minecart can only carry 5 items, Iron would not be one I choose.

you should make an iron farm too,so you'll have a lot of resources and you can spend more time on builds instead of mining :D
In one of his episodes he said he doesn't like iron farms and he wants to mine for it, however i wish he would reconsider that decision and build a iron farm.
Etho said he's against iron golem farms and witch farms. He says they're too cheaty and would much rather go mining for iron and redstone himself.

For the gold farm, if ever the pigmen do attack the iron golems you could put an iron golem farm right above and turn it into an iron farm(more than the zombies already give) as well. Although the golems may not spawn fast enough.
Yellow and green together are AWSOME. I don't really think that there are problems with that thing and I like the design.

Regular zombies rarely drop iron, so you could potentially get a bit of iron as well as lots of gold.
On the Zombie Pig Farm maybe making a dark chamber for the zombies to spawn in so they won't spawn in the main room would fix the problem

An idea to prevent overflowing the hopper-minecart: you can put multiple unloading stations one level below the tracks. I.e. put another stationary hopper-minecart (standing on a hopper) to suck the items from the moving minecart. Repeat as needed.

The problem with the end stone is that it _isn't_ yellow. It's like this pale, sickly color that doesn't really blend with anything, except more end stone.
For those who think hes flown he hasn't, flying is calculated going over 1 block up and forward, ways this happens are jump boot and slime blocks
If you ever do fall a massive distance and really don't feel like dying from hitting the ground, simply log out once you are at a safe fall distance. When you log back in you will only fall the distance that you are currently at; it won't remember that you actually fell from way higher up, in other words.
And you will survive.
I do it occasionally.

Hi Etho, I have a suggestion about your new base! If you want your wooden path to look decayed, prehaps you could randomly switch out the spruce planks for dark oak, podzol, grass, or coarse dirt? Just a thought!
