Doug Demuro and Jeremy Clarkson have done a ton of bad publicity to this car. They gave to the enthousiast community a somewhat unappropriate view that became glued to them, even if a lot of this is simply subjective judgment.
This has, still now, catastrophic effects on the used price value of those cars. But, in the other side, it is allowing the RCF to have a shadow existence of its own ; away from the streetracer and jocks community. Making this car a hidden gem for car enthousiasts.

Toyota did it to themselves when they added luxury and thus more weight and unneeded gadgets to the RCF when it should have been a raw baby version of the LFA, the Street version of the GT3 mind you.

You say that, but I was in a Lexus dealership the morning after Clarkson's review aired getting the rear exhaust section replaced on my IS-F, having seem the review I was a bit disappointed and like many I had gotten the impression that Toyota/Lexus had focused too much on luxury and not enough on performance. Then while I was there a man came in and ordered an RC-F purely based on Clarkson's review, and then a second did the same (one nearly ordered the Carbon pack thinking it was an eco option lol). While many of us found the review disappointing it seemed many people found it to be exactly what they were looking for (one of them even commented it was better than the Aston Martin he had been looking at and half the price).

I have an RC F so am admittedly biased. That said I agree with you about many of your observations on Doug's review. The biggest thing I agree with about your comments is that the mission of this car is luxury and performance. It's not the best of either but it is a good combination of both. People that worry about the weight make me laugh unless they are truly going to the track as a primary use. If anyone is THAT worried about weight then they shouldn't be buying a luxury car with electric windows and seats, power steering, AC, carpet, rear seats, cruise control, infotainment, radio, etc. for track use anyway. In real world driving, the RC F is essentially too powerful and plenty comfortable and the shifts are startlingly fast and strong, not lazy at all. I like BMWs but they are everywhere, I wanted something I didn't see every day. This car is rare to see. Some love some hate, I get it, it's a polarizing car but I love it.

Dallas Grantley lol best infotainment ? you have to pay for Apple car play on a yearly subscription that’s caca to me . Plus why make the argument about how it drives then switch to the info system which any one who truly loves the feel of a car for its drivability doesn’t give a left nut about . If that’s the argument then I’d get a Camaro SS which beats a M4 on the track and 0-60. Or for the same price as a M4 since we are spending money I’d get a ZL1 and destroy the M4 alllllll day and it looks way more menacing on the road . RCf doesn’t jump two teeth on its timing belt from a simple aftermarket tune which they are known for . RCF also has forged internals and can be beaten all day long the take you home . BMW will get you around a track faster but then a Camaro will pass you up and make you feel ridiculous for spending the money for bragging rites and a name brand . My point is there is always something faster at the same price range .

It was originally $80,000 with all the options not including tax only one year great discount you can find used ones for as low as $35-40 k depending on mileage that run like new even after being driven hard with mods . M4s have an issue with timing belt jumping a couple teeth with as little as a tune and blowing up BMW keeps this pretty much on the low on top of the cost to maintain a newer model M4 . You also Void warranty if you get it serviced anywhere other than a dealership . Used BMWs are risky look it up ,they perform great till they don’t perform great lol . And once your the second owner of a BMW might as well keep it forever because you’ll have to sell it for so little it’s not worth it . Meanwhile you can drive a Lexus as the second owner enjoy it for a while and sell it to a third owner and still make a small amount of cash . Meanwhile the second owner of a BMW is waiting for it to get out the shop after a month of driving too hard and spending cash to fix it he thought he saved when he bought it used 😅😂🤣....

Sadly I've never driven the RC F, but I've admired it from afar and would seriously consider getting it over any of the German brands...despite my general preference and affinity for German marques. Doug's preferences and bias aside, I agree that he missed the point of the Lexus in his review. The RC F is not intended to be tracked; it is much more suited for grand touring duty than the BMW is. On a long road trip, that M4 would beat you up, while the Lexus would deliver you to your destination comfortably. I feel the RC F to M4 comparison is akin to the Aston Martin to Ferrari comparison. The two brands stand for different things. Yes, Aston has its track-focused hardcore vehicles, but for the most part it produces grand tourers that are comfortable with a touch of sportiness. Why can't the RC F do the same?

This is my exact kind of dispute at the moment. I’m torn between the RCF and a Toyota supra 3.0 premium. Will have to be a one owner or 2 well maintained
I’ll be retiring at the end of 2026 and in the spring of 2027 I’ll be more than likely purchasing one of these two vehicles. 2021-22 Supra or a 2015-17 RCF. And yes the BMW long-term reliability is definitely a problem that I need to consider.
I own a 2002 Lexus ES 300 which is quiet as a vault, solid as a tank it is extremely luxurious. Last year had a certified shop install 4 new struts and it rides like it just came off the showroom floor. I have my beautiful comfort and luxurious ride so that’s why I was opting more towards the supra a two seater sports car. Either one I get I won’t be tracking them.
I think at the end of the day it comes down to reliability and dependability and nothing beats a Lexus
My other possible options are a 2020 -21 mustang GT or a 2012-13 C6 Corvette manual. It will be very hard to find a well maintained adult driven used mustang GT that hasn’t been beat the shit out of. Same with a used corvette.

The Rc F is the highest of quality, tied with BMW for fit and finish, Faster than my Porsche, but the number one thing that you touched on that should be over emphasized is..... RELIABILTY. That is a major characteristic about the Lexus that hands down makes is a better car to own. A faster car that is in the shop here and there with $3000 repairs to get it back on the road, is not a car anybody wants. i sold my 6 series because my friends were dumping 2 grand here, 2 grand there on repairs on their 6 series. Anyway, thank you for blasting his review just like he blasted that fart!

Recently bought a 2017 RC F, thought I did my research but there is one thing that i somehow missed in reviews and discussion forums...the lack of a spare tire...I understand the staggered tires being the reason for no spare...but I personally have very bad luck with nails and screws so I'm currently looking for a solution...I bought a refurbished OE wheel and am getting some rubber put on it...but now I'm wondering if that was a good idea as per the owner's manual the jack points seem very hard to access/use...now i havent actually tried, I've been working crazy hours at work since buying the car...but it at least seems like the jack points are "hard to hit"...actually might not have bought the car if I knew all this...not gonna lie I have major buyer's remorse because of this...hopefully when i get a day off I can see just how hard it is to access the jack points and change a spare while on the side of the road...

OK, I just test-drove a 2016 RC F in a very similar spec to the one he had, just 3 weeks ago, so it's pretty fresh in my mind.
Regarding the steering being light... While it's not the lightest steering, I also wouldn't say it's heavy. And, in Sport+, the response from the steering is very quick compared to my IS 300 I have at home. I also just drove a Camaro SS this past weekend (rental car), and found its steering to be notably heavier than the RC F's steering, so take that for whatever it's worth. I'm not saying Doug's right, because he's not. The RX is probably the last thing I think of comparing the RC F's steering with. However, it's not overly heavy either.
I sorta agree on the transmission being lazy... but only at low revs. If you really stomp on the gas, the shifts are quicker, no doubt. In more sedate driving, it's not worth using the paddles, but the transmission is very smooth and Lexus-like. I personally like the dual personality of the transmission.
Regarding the part about it being half-hearted... here's the other thing driving that Camaro made me realize. That Camaro is faster than an RC F. No doubt about it. However, it's just not nearly as quiet or refined on the inside - the ride seemed a bit firm, and its exhaust was pretty loud - both a good thing and a bad thing depending on the timing! I started to wonder if I would want to drive something like that every day. I didn't have that conundrum with the RC F - it felt every bit as comfortable as my IS 300 F Sport, in spite of it being obviously more capable. That versatility is what you are paying for with the RC F. You get a car that handles extremely well but is still something you could use to take your significant other on a weekend trip in comfort. (And I mean, the RC F is still fast, especially if you rev it all the way out.)
Unfortunately, I was only testing out the RC F to test the waters, since my lease has about 6 months left, still, so I am pretty sure someone already bought the Infrared one I drove. But I loved it. Hopefully there will still be some around in a few months.

These guys are just upset that the Lexus 5.0 in the F models is literally a bulletproof, reliable 300k mile track and daily driver monster with little, little maintenance through out its whole lifetime. The tranny is old, but it works. It can hold reliably 1000 hp. No issues. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. Still shifts fast as hell in manual at red line. It revs high. I think it’s the greatest induction sound ever in any production car and even modded that’s na. Lexus interior is one of the best quality pieces out there in the automotive industry. You can daily drive this 365 in every season and weather condition, go to the track everyday, throw down competitive times and still be able to go home and go to work the next day and get your groceries after and repeat. For 100s of thousands of miles. People need to quit comparing these cars to others. Nothing can compare to Lexus F models. There’s nothing out there like them hands down. They aren’t the best cars in the world at all but that’s not the point. The point is everything I said above.

I dont get why anyone would want a harsh, stiff sports ride over a comfortable, smooth performance car? What the heck? How many people track race on a daily basis? Who the heck are these so-called ' car enthusiasts ' and how many of them are there? If the target market is race drivers then these comparisons will make sense to me. Who in the states is going to use 450 horsepower to the max on highways that have speed limits without negative consequences( speeding tickets, accidents etc). How many people race to work? So what if a German car is faster than my Lexus. What does it matter? All the public need and want is a car that is quick enough and can handle decently ,with reliability as a factor as well. That Doug score rating is hilarious but I just watch him because he does review a lot of cool cars. LEXUS by the way built their reputation on quality ,reliability and comfort. Even though for my own reasons I still watch a lot of Doug’s videos but like I’ve pointed out in the other one, I can disagree with him and yes just because he says something doesn’t mean he’s right. It’s like any other CZcamsr I watch.
With every vehicle, it’s placed in a class, and in that class it’s placed in a spot where there are cars that are worse and better than the one you are targeting. In this case the RCF. I’m OK with other cars being better than it, but I also love that this car is better than so many others. It has an absurd amount of horsepower and with easy aftermarket upgrades like superchargers, exhaust, etc. to get even more. They are VERY reliable, and has the ability for every day drive.
Anybody that I know with BMWs (have or had), mainly has had a lot of issues after the warranty or have experienced horrid resale value. Many others I know that have them say do not handle AT ALL in any condition other than bone dry ground. Once the BMW gets in rain of any kind there’s no grip at all and you’re holding on for dear life. While the RCF isn’t a saint in rain or sleet or snow, you’re going to feel a lot better and at ease when you see and hear the amount of complaints I’ve seen and heard with BMWs in weather conditions.
Like you said, the power, the style, the features, and the reliability is very important to me. I don’t want an uncomfortable dedicated track car. Many of these specific dedicated track handling cars when you had a slight bump in the road it’s bone shattering. No thank you! Both of these cars have their areas that they are perfected in. And that’s what makes them both unique and OK for the purchaser for whatever they’re trying to accomplish.
I’d NEVER buy a BMW unless I had unlimited money. Horrible resale and terrible money pits. Not because Scotty Kilmer said so... because that’s what I’ve known my whole life.

He is WRONG about many other cars too. I unsubscribed Doug’s channel long time ago, now I’m subscribing to yours.

He is wrong with the points you have highlighted and I am 36 and would love to own a RC-F since it was debuted!
However his LC500 review seems more honest about the Lexus brand, has he changed his perception?

I remembered when Doug said he thinks the styling of the car is really amazing, yet when he was giving his Doug score he gave it 6 out of 10 in styling.
