    So this sounds like a nursing research and implementation type of position, in which MSN RN's have a say/influence on how hospital software programs function for clinical staff basically. For those wondering, there's probably no coding or software engineering aspect that the nurse is responsible for. Thanks for this video!

    Hi David, great video and spot on! I too have my MSN inn Healthcare Informatics and yes there are so many different revenues for this profession! My organization EHR is Epic and when I graduated last year there were no Informaticist jobs available within. I however accepted a position as a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist which has given me a great deal of experience! I do work remotely 3 days a week and at the office for 2. It’s definitely a evolving profession and I’m excited to experience what’s to come! Thank you for your videos 😊

    I have a question. I work in a small hospital , rural setting. Recently bought out by a large system. I work ICU. Right now we have to manually type in VS q15mins. We are newly on EPIC and I'm not sure I'd EPIC has capability but on Cerner our ICU monitors were associated and would matriculate with a double click to the EHR. We have one Nurse Informaticist on staff. We heard that the larger sister hospital has this capability. Would that be a job for me to go to my director about and should she then refer to him? Q15min VS on 2 to 3 patients is quite tedious and time consuming. Thanks!?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 4 lety +1

      Wow, documenting your vitals that often on 2-3 patients is a lot of work. I am not that knowledgable on EPIC but this is a feature that we have in Cerner. You say you have an Informatics team, I would definitely get your coworkers opinions but yes I would talk to your director about making this change. Your director can then reach out to the informatics people and if EPIC allows this type of association then it would be really beneficial. Thanks for reach out friend :)

    Is it departmentalized!
    I mean, for example,
    i have a background
    in OR NURSING.
    Would i be assigned
    mostly on OR CHARTINGS?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 3 lety +2

      It is departmentalized! You could be assigned to that if that position opened up! Otherwise you could get assigned to a different field.

    How would one get started in informatics without experience in it? I have an MSN in education but was interested in applications improvement.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 3 lety +1

      Having a MSN is helpful, I would just start looking for positions in the field and start applying. If you work in a hospital, I would say reach out to you informatics team and ask them if you could shadow them for a day. Also a good way to get your name out there. Working on the unit, you have the opportunity to be a super user when they roll out new changes, but it does not sound like you work on the unit right now.

    Hello, I'm going to be finiahing up my nursing program in May and I am considering nurse informatics. Do you think that this is a good career for an introvert? As a student in the informatics field, what does schooling look like, and what does it take to get where you are? I've decided that bedside nursing is not for me, so I'm looking for options away from the bedside.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 4 lety +1

      I am also an introvert but that's not why I am getting into it. There are so many different things that someone can do in this role and one includes holding classes in front of staff, which actually makes me really nervous because the informatics team at my hospital does do this. I am in my fifth class, and overall it's pretty basic. There is zero patient interaction, so it will for sure get you away from the bedside. When you graduate will you have your RN or BSN?

      @@DabidRobinson Thank you for responding. I will have my RN.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 4 lety

      You can get a job in informatics with a BSN, to see if you like it before going for your masters.

      @@DabidRobinson oh geez. There’s not much need for Informatics? And here I am just starting! I’m in Southern California, so maybe I’m at an advantage with hospitals. I really like forensic nursing. Should I just stick with that? I was a 911 operator for 20 yrs and have a BS in Criminal Justice. I’d love to work in a morgue, but that’s super niche! Thanks for your opinion, Nurse David!

    You can not even say it clearly what it is. It's not clear what it is. It's already difficult in the Healthcare field. It's totally deviating from nursing.
