    This is unbelievable. I landed an informatics job just like you described! Small team in a large organization. I maintain my own data & media servers at my house and I'm in the MSN Informatics program at my local college with bedside nursing experience since 2001. Im sure that helped because it was steep competition. I'm so excited to begin next month! Great video!

    *watches this with only 1 year of bedside experience* 😂maybe someday...

      I mean... you could get into it with only a year experience lol, I did work with a girl who only did bedside for a year and a half.

      🤔interesting... My hospital is changing to a new EMR later this year, so I think that I can at least try to become a super user!@@DabidRobinson

      Is bedside experience the only thing they look for? I have several years in software development, my clinical instructor suggested I look into Informatics with my background.@@DabidRobinson

      The sooner, the better. I've been a bedside nurse for nearly 20 years, and I feel like it is really hard to get away from. I feel like I'm pegged to a specific set of skills and can't get out of it, even with a degree and certifications.

    I'm cool with a pay decrease, being a noob to informatics. A common problem is getting that entry-level position; so many places just want experienced employees and don't want to foster growth. I am hopeful my current hospital will prove me wrong in this. I was told by our CIO that she wants 5 INs and currently has 1. She let me know a few days ago that a new position would be posted soon. 🤞🤞

    Great video!
    Off topic question though, you mentioned things an RN could do with an Associates Degree - Could you do a video going into detail the opportunities that are out there for those of us with that educational qualification?
    I'd be interested in learning what your take is on this?
    Thanks.
    Keep up the great videos!!

    Hi Nurse David, I'm excited to explore the field of Nursing Informatics and would greatly appreciate any guidance or advice you can offer. As a registered nurse with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), I'm eager to learn more about how informatics can impact patient care and healthcare outcomes. Although I don't have a master's degree in informatics or direct experience, I'm confident that my nursing background can provide a strong foundation for this transition. Thank you!

    A lot of times moving laterally and making a career change doesn’t automatically equate to a pay raise, regardless of experience in another field
    Good on you for betting on yourself

    @6:35 when you talk about "building"..are you talking about the informatics that code? or are you talking about building order sets in EPIC?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 2 dny

      Kind of both. I do not code, none of my team does. But we do have Epic analysts who “build” and when I say that I mean they create what you see in epic, using tools from epic. It’s not as complicated as coding but it’s not that user friendly either.

    Just finished my MSN in Nursing Informatics. Its extremely difficult for me to find and land a informatics job. I think working in skilled nursing facility makes it harder for me too. Do you have any tips? Hoping you could make a video about this! Thank you.

      I will definitely need to make a video on this. My experience with nursing facilities is that there are not always a whole lot of opportunities for you to get experience with informatics. You may really need to review how you are wording your resume to best advertise yourself.

    Do you go to your companies site to speak with someone in informatics about options for jobs/careers? I am currently in the OR. Been in the OR for 6 yrs, and 2 yrs of it (presently) has been as resource nurse. I have a title as informatics coordinator, but have been very involved in IntraOp workgroup meetings with Epic and advocating for the OR side for workflow. I educate on Epic charting for new hires. I also submit new tickets for things pertaining to Epic workflow that we need changes to. I have met the VP of informatics and I know some analysts being involved with workflow topics. Would it benefit to apply or go for an informatics certificate? I am aware of potential pay slashes from where I am at.
    Thank you!

    So you work with software engineers? Do you need to sign non disclosures of all the data that is available to you? If you generate an idea of what would work are you not allowed to go and create a patent and develop it on your own?? This is truly fascinating to me.

    I have my BSN looking at doing Masters in Nursing Informatics. I’m currently a certified case manager. My question is would you say it’s worth the degree. Do you really need a degree to get the job or the experience through other jobs tasks like UM or Case Management

    Hi, nursing informatics or healthcare informatics is the best choice for nurses?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  Před 5 měsíci +1

      If you can be in a position where you impact nurses, i think this is where nurses thrive best because we know the workflow of nursing.
      The confusing part is these terms are often used interchangeably. I say I’m a nursing informaticist although my degree is an MSN with and emphasis in health informatics but my job is Clinical Informatics Analyst 🤪🤪

      @@DabidRobinson This answer is really helpful for me. I graduated BSN in 2009 but life happened and got my first and current Nursing job in a hospital as Occ Health Nurse in 2021. With all the data we're trying to submit to DPH, I realize that I'm interested in Data analysis/Informatics because of mediums we don't have and feel like I can contribute more in some other way. I started looking at Informatics courses and led me to choosing between Nursing Informatics or Healthcare Informatics. I thought that as a licensed nurse, Nursing informatics was my only option but it was discouraging since I don't have a strong clinical background so I'm leaning more towards Health Informatics. Thank you for justifying the decision I'm going to make!
