    • @InformaticsLife
      @InformaticsLife  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Christina!! That is a great question! From my experience, I don't know of anything like a "physical therapy informatics" team specifically. A Health or Nursing Informatics Specialist would assist smaller departments like PT/OT/ST. With your experience, you could absolutely get into Health Informatics though and serve as a liaison for any field. Regardless of Nursing or Health Informatics, you would be engaged with different departments. You have medical experience, and in training you would have to learn everyone's documentation workflows. Informatics is such a vast field that you could work in many different capacities. I would be concerned about a pay cut for you since PTs have doctorate degrees and I am assuming you all make more than what I stated, right? I could be totally wrong. Thanks for watching!!

    Hey dear, I watched all 4 part of this series and I was wondering what are my chances of having good pay range with my situation. I have 4 yr bachelor degree in Biology and been working in a hospital as patient care tech over 7-8 months now. I am looking to pursue my masters in degrees that offers online classes and that's how I came up with masters in HI. Do you think I can get better paying job with the my educational and work background once I finish my masters in HI ?

    • @InformaticsLife
      @InformaticsLife  Před 2 lety

      Hey Jimmy, thank you for watching all 4 parts. Hhhhmm, it will be considered as medical experience but not as extensive as someone in nursing or other medical degrees. You will get paid more due to your degree. Some medical EHR companies may consider your PCT experience as enough but it may be more challenging in the hospital. I hope that helps.

    • @Po0pypoopy
      @Po0pypoopy Před 2 lety

      hey, I also am coming from a Biology background but in research and am now changing careers and pursuing an associate's degree in IT coding/programming. I have looked into some job titles as health information specialists and most clinics/hospitals don't really require a lot of educational requirements as it is a relatively obscure field to study in a university?? not sure, but you could try to get some coding skills or some medical records/billing coder jobs as these tend to be trained positions.
      aaaaand, let's be real, brother......pushing patients around from room to room isn't going to cut it. The world is becoming very competitive so you need to bring a lot to the table, thus....start expanding yourself into data analytics, coding, statistics or any other form of IT knowledge. There is a reason why this field branches into IT and veers off from biology/nursing (in some way).
      I think my answer is a lot more helpful than what this youtuber gave you.

      @InformaticsLife  Před 3 lety

      Hey Scott! Watch this video about Bachelors degree versus Masters degree czcams.com/video/Wn_aHCqVjsQ/video.html . As A1 hair type Beauty mentioned, if you are seeking to get a Masters Degree in Nursing Informatics then, yes, you have to have your RN licensure and Bachelors Degree. This video will go into if you need medical experience czcams.com/video/j_ulWoOeLPY/video.html. Now, I know many who have gotten into the NI field with only their Associates or Bachelors and you will be paid less. That's just normal practices of any type of company. Most companies will also increase your pay once you prove that you have a higher degree. Companies pay for value. The higher the degree the more they have, on paper, that you will increase value for their company and this is for all types of companies. Now, you can increase your value by doing other things. An RN license is only the beginning to your future. Hope that helps.

    Question, based from your 3rd video on experience. I started my experience out in the field as an EMT/Paramedic and I am looking at going into an BSN program. So my experience ATM is all field, does this experience still help or do I need to start building experience informatics soon to have a healthy balance? Will my current experience working as an EMT/Paramedic help me and be looked at when I go to apply for a job in informatics once I complete all the certs and degrees you mentioned or will HR primary be looking at experience at Nurse and informatics?

    • @InformaticsLife
      @InformaticsLife  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey A P, Yes, it will only help if the hospital allows EMT/Paramedics to document into the EMR that everyone else uses. Many EMTs use a different system to document that will not be used by ED, inpt, or other hospital departments. Hopefully that makes sense. You really need to learn the main hospital documentation system as that is typically what an informatics specialists specializes in. When you get a chance, become a superuser on the floor. Again, your EMT/Paramedic experience will only shine if they know that you are familiar with the documentation system. You may find an opportunity where they are specifically looking for Emergency service people and that would help. You will have to look for an entry-level position and we always train with those. HR can be looking for a variety of things. Right off the top of my head, EMT/Paramedic is not typically something we look for since that is such a small department. Remember this: the more people you are able to serve, the more value you bring to the company and the more opportunities you can get hired into. Nursing is vast and that is why people look for that specific experience. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions! I appreciate you and your EMT/Paramedic specialty!

I care more about self-initiated projects on the floor, leadership skills, clinical experience, references, and overall wholistic view of the person. Let me ask you this....what college did your doctor or dentist go to? I bet you will say, you don't know. What's important is who they are and how they treat you. I hope that helps. Therefore, find a school that is affordable and go the extra mile to self-develop yourself while in school in the clinical world and in your personal life. Thanks for the information. It’s hard to tell what’s accurate out there. I have my BSN and have been a nurse in critical care/ surgical for 4 yrs now. I want to try to get a nursing informatics masters degree. Any idea what salary range I’d be looking at? Starting and potential? Thanks!

      With no informatics experience you would be looking at the entry level income. Were you able to watch the other parts of the series which covers other pay increase influencing pieces? Where you live, informatics-like experience, leadership experience, etc. all will influence your pay. If you still have questions, let me know. Thanks so much for watching! The next Resume series video will be coming out soon!!

      Hey dhanalakshmi! Food quality is definitely different than health. I'm not sure your background would be considered as experience or course work considered as pre-requisite coverage. I did find that there is an arm of informatics for food nutrition. www.vstech.com/healthcare-initiatives/food-nutrition-informatics/ Anyway, you can still do Health Informatics but would need to start fresh, some of your foundational courses can possibly be transferred. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    Couldn't even make it past a few minutes; I know you mean well and want to engage your audience but yelling at the camera and forced optimism isn't the way to do it.
