Thanks for this excellent review, I have just won one of these printers and found watching this along with some other reviews extremely helpful.
I'm so glad to hear that - thanks for taking the time to comment.
Fantastic review. You are very well spoken, clear and concise. I believe I will purchase this printer based on your exceptional review.
Andy Genno thanks so much for your very kind comment.
No problem at all. By the way those prints of your photographs really do look incredible.
Andy Genno agreed, although the video barely does them justice.
did you finally buy the printer?
Enjoy your reviews. Great balance of content with review length.
+Kevin Barrett That's very kind of you to say - thanks for the comment.
Omg Thank-you for such a great review, this is what a review should be.
WiredToTheCore What a kind thing to say - thanks so much for commenting.
I aspire to be like this man one day.
This has to be the most straightforward video with some of the best advice for photography and printing. Not just specifically regarding the Epson P600
How kind of you to say, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Very nice review! I wish I had seen it before agonizing over which printer to buy but it does give me some comfort that I made the right choice.
Thank you.

Nice to see a good review. There are not many printer reviews on internet. You should review other printers too. That would be a good plus for your channel.
Thanks for the kind words. I'll try to add some printers to the editorial lineup this year.
Excellent and very professional review! Thank you.
How kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.

WOW!! This guy knows what he's talking about!!
Thanks for your kind words. I will pass them along to that guy.
great review! clear and concise!
digitalfriday thank you for the kind words, I'm trying for clear and concise.
Excellent review. As others have said, you speak very clearly and well. The pace was just right and you made your points. I am torn between this proven printer and the newly announced P700, time will tell which I go for.
Thanks for your kind words, always appreciated.
Excellent review. Thanks!
I appreciate your kind comment, thanks.
Thanks for the great video, going to buy one
+Frank Cosgrove Thanks for the kind words. Always good to know I've provided the information you're looking for.
Very honest review despite the perks from Epson. I applaud you sir and am grateful
Thanks. I appreciate your kind words.
I have a dilemma, I don’t know if you can help me but I thought I’d reach out. I am considering buying the P600, my finger has hovered over the buy button many times over the past few days but what’s holding me back is the very feature which attracted me to it in the first place: the roll feeder. Aside from Epsom’s paper, there is nothing available in a 13” roll format. The P800 can take several types of rolls, the P600 it seems cannot and I do not have P800 money. I print on inkjet-printable vinyl, seldom on paper, and my old HP printer handled this just fine, albeit only ever in A4 form. Even reaching out to Chinese manufacturers I just cannot get anyone to supply me a 13” roll of inkjet printable vinyl. The closest they can get me is 12.2”. My question is this: in your experience with the P600, do you think it will be happy to print on a 12.2” roll? Unfortunately Epson could not give me an answer
@@FTF96 Im sorry, I don't have the answer to that question. Is the cost of the roll so expensive that it's not worth a shot to see if it works?
This was a really good review , Thinking of a purchase of this printer to replace my epson 2100 , this review made my decision , thank you
+nigel hughes I'm so happy to hear that I've been able to provide useful information - enjoy your new printer.
A great review, thank you.
I appreciate the kind words, thanks!
staightforward and beautiful review.
Thank for your very kind words.
Fantastic, thank you so much
+Coporo Frito Kind of you to say, thanks.
Interesting review, I gave up on photo printing at home years ago as well. Even printing documents, webpages and digital tickets is a pain. Any insight on the price of such a unit...oh just googled it and 3s later I learn its about $1000. Interesting and great for someone with a small photo business.
Peter Ratsch Thanks for the kind words - If you can make money from your photos, I think it's a no-brainer. And if you're a finicky type who is spending money at a high end print shop, you may be happier using this solution.
Hi Maarten, thanks for your excellent review. Couple of Questions:
1. I recall you saying you printed 70 "standard sized" prints before having to change a cartridge. What size is "standard" sized, and which cartridge had to be replaced first?
2. I notice when I review the size specs online that while stored the printer measures (W,D,H) 24X14.5X9 but the depth increases to 32 when used for printing. What causes the depth to more than double in size when printing?
Thanks again, great video.
Leonard
+Leonard Poole Thanks for the kind words. 1) 20x26cm (8x10") is my "standard" size. 2) The trays extend in front and back.
Excellent review, Maarten. Where can I find more details about the plaque mounting? thanks
Dragos Pl (dpvue.com) Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure where you are, or who might be offering that kind of service. I get them done at a dealer who sends them to "plak-it", which has a guide to locations on their web site.
the minute i see this printer on sale, im picking it up. thanks maarten
quick question: how do you think my 16 mpxl fuji xe2 will fare with big prints such as the ones you have in the video? i'm constantly concerned about the quality from a 16 mpxl
+Hillwood Lam It's my pleasure, thanks for the kind words. Once an image is 12MP or larger, I'd have no concerns about printing in at the full size on this printer - and the software actually does nice interpolation on lower quality images as well.
This is an amazing printer. Anybody who takes himself seriously as an artist should own one of these. The big downside to this is that the ink is ridiculously expensive. In my country, one complete set costs almost half of the new printer. I use it sparely only for the important prints. I do my bulk printing on an Epson L1800.
This printer should only be purchased by those for whom quality is more important than cost. If the cost of supplies are going to be a factor, this printer is not for you.
Did you have any problems between printing sessions? I found my older Epson printers would clog and clog and clog making it impossible to get good photo prints without continually cleaning the heads. If they've fixed this problem I'm back to printing. Excellent review, by the way.
HairMentor I have the feeling I didn't have it long enough to encounter this problem. And thanks for the kind words.
these review "experts" told us the R3000 was wonderful, fantastic and so on...they did not tell us that the printer had big problems recognising cartridges...even the Epson cartidges....so be ware people!
Although I don't usually get the opportunity to change cartridges during a review, I changed them all at least once with no issues. Sorry to hear about the issues you're having.
"Save Ink" probably means it doesn't purge the other black ink out of the line, so it will print with Photo Black for a while after you switch to Matte Black and vice versa. It also conserves your printer's waste ink capacity.
Thanks - I appreciate the insight.
I wish my Pro 3880 had that feature. It has the MK/PK ink switch, but I have no choice but to regularly waste ink so that the valve does not clog. It always purges the remnants of the other black ink which prematurely fills my waste ink cartridge. Clogging is a known problem with several other MK/PK switching Epsons if you don't switch often enough, so be aware with this printer as well. Presumably, suspended pigments settle in the unused line and prevent the valve from properly sealing. SureColor P800, Pro 3800, R3880, etc users often get stuck on MK after PK starts dribbling ink. One symptom is MK or PK runs dry even though the printer reports plenty.
I'm going to put on my tin-foil hat and say that the reason the P600 has this feature is because they don't sell replacement waste ink maintenance cartridges for it and it would quickly saturate the internal waste ink pad otherwise. For the 3800 series and P800, wasting ink sells more ink AND maint carts, so why conserve? For the P600 they simply can't justify that for ink sales alone on a model where wasting that ink will prematurely ruin the printer. Glad they have souls! ;)
Interesting, thanks for your thoughts.
So im interested in buying this printer, so you said you printed 70 standard size letter before you changed the first cartridge, so @ 50$ each cartridge its 450/70 would give around 6.50 $ a print right? Or do you a relation to print cost?
+Ricky Miles It's probably less, as some cartridges go faster than others. I'm not sure how many prints I would have had to make to get to a realistic price per print number. This is a printer for those who are determined to get quality and will not think twice about running two or three or five more test prints to get one that absolutely fulfils their requirements. If that's a number you're worried about, you likely won't enjoy this printer.
Thank you very much Maarten for this wonderful video! It gave me useful information!
I bought the Epson SureColor P600 before I saw your video, but I was just wondering if you only print on Epson paper? I didn't get the result yet that I'd appreciate - with third party paper. What paper would You recommend? Do you have any experience with matte smooth paper for the SC-P600?
Thank you so much in advance for your answer! I already appreciate it!
+Tin Eller Thanks for the kind words, Maybe I should have a new word to describe these review/tutorials. I only used Epson paper, as they supplied a lot of it for the review. Third party paper should be fine - but I didn't try that, so sorry no experience to share. Maybe another viewer will share their experiences/experiments. I had my best results with the Epson "Ultra Premium Photo Paper Lustre", which is available in various sizes and formats. I'd check in with a local high end photo shop to see what they recommend - Hahnemühle makes some great papers, I'm sure they have sample packs to check which one you'd prefer.
+Maarten Heilbron Thank you so so much for your quick reply and for answering my questions! Awesome, then I'll try out the Epson matte paper they make specifically for their printers.
Thank you for your recommendation! I really appreciate it!
+Tin Eller Always my pleasure.
awesome - love your images - I might look into the Epson - been using Canon IX6550 for some time - for many pics but send out for ultra quality -
jon hermannsson Thank you for your kind words.
Hi! Interested in a rigid framework which is photo. What's it called? and where to buy? Thanks for the good demonstration. Another question: planning to buy it for the manufacture of photo books . How do you think this printer will go? If you have experience, please share. Thank you
+Кайрат Тургимбаев Thanks for the kind words. I use a service called Plak-It to mount the photos. I'm not sure how you'd make the photos into a book - for photobooks I typically use a service called blurb. Hope this helps.
GYou are the born Reviewer. Does this Printer also do Canvas ?
Thanks! Yes, it does.
I would have appreciated some information on the cleaning process (how often necessary, how much loss of ink).
If those are concerns, this is likely not the printer for you. This is a printer for those who consider quality to be paramount, and not not particularly concerned with cost.
How about the ink consumption? How many pages A4 can be printed by using 1 cantridge?
It's very hard to measure, and as I say in the video, if this is your concern, this is not a printer for you. You will not get good results if you are worried about the ink consumption.
What do you think about the Epson P800, I'm looking to get either That one or the Canon Pro 1000
I haven't tried either.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you love your fuji X T3 videos
@@splashdownmodels thanks fo the kind words, appreciated
Hi, can you tell me the average cost of a print in full colour size A3 and A4, ink only. I am hoping you have calculated this cost. as this info is difficult to find. Thank you
Although I thought about this, it's not an easy number to calculate as there are many variables. And the cost to create your final print may require multiple attempts which dramatically changes the calculation.
As I said in the video, if cost is going to be a factor, this is not the printer for you. This is a printer for those whose sole focus is quality, regardless of the cost of the supplies.
love it
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
Thank you, Maarten. Excellent review. I have an Epson Stylus Pro 3880, which is almost 5 years old and still makes brilliant photo prints. I think it is ready to be replaced with something better; perhaps the Epson P600. Thoughts?
Omer Terrason Thanks for the kind words. I'm really not familiar with that model - but if it still makes brilliant prints ... The only thing might be the new ink formulations which offer a larger range of colours and shades.
Thank you for your response.
very beautiful
Maria Terrason Thank you!
I don't know why, but this guys speech patterns remind me of Rick Steves, the travel guy. Vocal doppelgangers!
This kind is flattered by your kind comparison - thanks for commenting.
Hi, where do you purchased the frames? They look great!
They are "plak-it" mounted.
@@MaartenHeilbron thank you, sir :)
Always happy to help.
Would you recommend a CIS system for this Printer?
Is there one available? Do you think it would be useful?
@@MaartenHeilbron Yes-- www.marrutt.com/find-my-printer/epson-surecolor/epson-surecolor-sc-p600-printer/epson-surecolor-sc-p600-printer-support#correct. & it would appear quite cost effective.
@@Pixeditor07 Sorry, I have no knowledge of this, thanks for sharing.
Does it also print on canvas ?
Yes a canvas paper roll is available.
are you familiar with printing on aluminum with the p600, is it true?
I'm not. I have no idea. It might be?
yeah it is, just found out more in depth this morning.
Interesting, good to know.
Sir printer Indian price ? And photo paper price ? And printing size ? And printing cost
Do you really think that I have that information?
This is, as I said in the video, not a printer for someone who is concerned about cost. If you are, please look to other printers. This is for those who care only about quality.
also there is not one epson video actually printing a photo, they always talk about colors...with the photos already printed
Damn!
show it printing from start to finish
That takes too long.
