    The 62MAS, though affectionately referred to as a nickname, falls short in encapsulating the true essence of Seiko's first and most important dive watch. Consider Rolex and their iconic Submariner - a name that has become synonymous with excellence in the world of diving watches. Seiko's first-ever diver deserves more than a casual moniker and Seiko recognizes the profound impact a name can have in the world of watch marketing.
    The MARINEMASTER isn't just a renaming; it's a strategic move that aligns with the brand's commitment to excellence and innovation. Experience the upper regions of Japanese craftsmanship with the Seiko Marinemaster SJE099. This divers watch seamlessly blends precision engineering with a sleek design, featuring a high-beat movement and a sapphire crystal for unparalleled durability. Seiko SJE099, SJE101, SJE097.

    This is a great looking watch. Very modern with so many Seiko call backs. It's a great modern Seiko. I agree very Seiko evolved.
    I'm a watch enthusiast and I don't mind date windows, if well implemented. Like if it's at 6 o'clock most of the time I think it looks fine. This one is subtle enough it's not distracting and feels like a bonus feature.

    I bought this watch like a week ago. i was checking totally diffrent watches and the seller showed me this and oh boys i like it!
    + The fit is super nice! most comfortable watch that i ever tested!
    + really good looking braclet
    Most commented things
    - Signed or unsigned crown? Honestly i don't care.
    - Open caseback, i love it!
    - Date window? really nice atleast for me. I don't so often look the date, but when i need it, it's there! kind of hiding, but still being able to read it clearly.
    - 200m water resistant? well ofcourse would be nice to have 300M, but honestly how many people really dive with these watches?
    Only real downside was for me that when light is coming certain side angle, dial looses all contrast and it's hard to read.
    everything else i like it!
    -Bezel first sight i was in love! But know been watching also classical 10-20-30-40-50 bezels, but for this 15-30-45 is super good.
    would be nice to see this colors and specs,with SPB299 style indicates and bezel.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Před 8 měsíci +5

      It's because of the 62mas connection of the lugs. So the only way to make it perfect is to make it square and they don't want to do that. so the round and square mixture never really works well. Rolex datejust endinks does not fit in perfect as well it's like a desired look love it or hate it. It has a tucked in look I showed on the most recent datejust review. And part of the Jubilee sticks up above the lug it's a really cool look.

    Thanks for taking a look at this one, as I've been waiting to see a good hands on review. I think the dial is cool, and the hands are gorgeous. It's a shame Seiko still can't use applied markers at this price, but I'm also not going to be lookin at it on a macro level. It's not a deal breaker. It's frustrating that Seiko can't spend a few Yen on signing the crown on a Seiko LX model. I would love to get into a discussion with the person or people that made the decision to really only do that on their Presage models. I personally think anything above Seiko Essentials should have one. I think the bezel looks great, but I'd prefer if those edges were brushed. I'm sure it would help the grip a bit too, but it does look great and a bit more high end with the choice they made.
    I do actually appreciate the display case back, but it's really just Seiko bending to modern tastes. A smart brand doesn't ignore what customers want though, and that goes for the date as well. While I get the watch fan's desire for a no date model for ease of setting, I actually still appreciate the date. I think I use it more than I think, because when I wear one of my watches without a date, I inevitably get annoyed when I have to dig my phone out of my pocket to look up the date. My now aging eyes (you'll get there eventually haha) would probably struggle with a date that small though. I recall when Monta added a no date option to the Ocean King line. I asked them later about the sales break down, and I recall the no date was only about 30% of sales. I think the no date crowd is just a vocal minority.
    I really don't care for the way the end link contrasts so much with the case. I wish they would have gone another route in the design, but I also can't say I have a suggestion on how to fix it. I'd just send them back to the drawing board. The links themselves look fantastic though. Only 2 micro adjusts is a bit frustrating, but I guess they're trying to balance elegance with functionality in this level of watch. I think even just a 3rd slot would be a huge win. I have some watches with 5 micro adjust slots and I just don't use them all, plus it makes for a bulkier clasp. Seiko really just needs to engineer their own quick adjust clasp.
    Overall, I think this is a nice release though. I might end up putting it on a nice rubber strap if I pick one up. The fact that these are not limited (unlike the SJE093) is exciting news.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Před 8 měsíci +3

      Thanks for sharing. But for the applied indices it's not a cost issue it's a philosophy issue. They think that a Pro Diver should have no fail points on the dial which is a shame. The seiko rep I spoke to told me they stamped the dial if I remember correctly nine times and it's a high failure rate and they throw out a lot of dials it probably cost them more to do the stamp dial. Remember they do applied indices on $70 Seiko 5s

    Excellent review as usual! Like Rolex, Seiko seems to be moving aways from a tool look to a jewelry look. I prefer an aluminum bezel and a non-textured dial. I also do not care for the 15-30-45 bezel. I've always preferred the Seiko fully graduated 10-20-30-40-50 bezel. This is something different, so I'm sure these will sell - Seiko knows what they re doing.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Před 8 měsíci +6

      Agreed. The display case back is also a move away from tool look. I hope for a solid caseback version in the future and maybe a sunray dial next year. Also, a lot of people are saying this is not a real marinemaster when the first ever Seiko Marinemaster was a Qaurtz 100m watch. Sooo as much as customer like to talk and me included, nobody knows more about SEIKO then SEIKO. So I agree they know what they are doing. My best guess is they will do MM teirs. 100m for quarts, 200m for 62mas, 300m for new mm300 and 1000m MM will stay the Tunas.

    I liked those big knucle-busting MarineMasters, either quatrz or self winding, but they SAID MareineMaster on them above the 6.!!!! Now available used only. Why does not Seiko bring those back? The black dial Seiko Turtle I have on my wrist cost $295 on a rubber strap in Dec. 2016. Had a new movememt put in June, 2023 for Total of $175. Runs great, looks great. Got to losing 10 min in 3 days. The 4R36 is still very available, so I had a new one put in. Cheap. He could not regulate the one that was acting up. Now the Turtle s around $350, so for half the price I had my mint Turtle get a new movement.

      Seiko has lost it here. Give me the 033 quartz with the shiny case. ~$1100 used on eBay. Love that watch that says MarineMaster on it. Quartz. Absolute icon!!!!!!! They need to re-assign some people at Seiko for this mistake. Like he says, Rolex didn't drop "Submariner" from their dial. Can you imagine if you tried to convince Rolex to do that?? I've been a life-long fan and collector of Seiko divers. I still own many of them. My current daily driver for the last 3yrs is the Prospex Kinetic GMT (SUN019P), AKA 'Kinetic Tuna', and I absolutely love it. However, it continues to blow my mind how often Seiko drops the ball. Even at this price point they don't equip their SS bracelets with proper clasps and ratcheting dive extensions. You have to get the MM 300 for that I believe. Meanwhile Citizen's Promaster Aqualand series do, at a much lower price and are some of the best ratcheting clasps in the industry. For a real diver like myself who lives on an island and dives most of the year this mistake is not easy to forgive. That's why when I'm in the water I wear my titanium Citizen Promaster Aquamount as my backup and my Seiko stays at home.

    I’ve really got a huge block on these watches. I adore Seiko divers and own five of them so this should be right up my alley but …. I think it’s a disaster for the money and a really incoherent design. The design of the hands is the bright spot for me. I appreciate all your videos FT, and I know you give your honest opinions rather than try and sell every watch to us, but this a rare instance where I respectfully disagree with your take.

      No problem man we all have different tastes. This one does have its negatives which I made sure to highlight, but despite its negatives it quickly became my favorite Seiko which is really difficult. I'm a big fan of the 62 mas but this just takes it to a completely new level just in my opinion. the overall watch community seems to hate the watch I would say 70% hate it from the reaction I've been getting. Which actually benefits me because I can probably get a bigger discount at kavar Jewelers once the hype dies down 😂 but might wait for a sunray dialed version as the dial is a bit too omega for me and if I really dislike any connection with omega.

      is “thumbs down”. 👎🤠

      Unfinished hour markers on a $2800 Seiko. Seiko testing the market: “Let’s see- cut corners here(dial) and there(crown), slap label on dial (Marine Master), and hope it flies.” Time to hold Seiko’s feet to the fire on this one. It may fly, but it’s a turkey. 🤡👎👎👎
