Excerpted from Pink Martini's live appearance on German television, from the JazzOpen Stuttgart festival, recorded on July 19, 2010. "Ninna nanna" is an original single from Pink Martini's fourth studio album "Splendor in the Grass," written and sung in Neapolitan, a language spoken by 7 or 8 million people in portions of Southern Italy. A songwriting collaboration between Alba Clemente and Massimo Audiello, close friends of Thomas Lauderdale and China Forbes, "Ninna nanna" is a song about a sleeping sailor, and the mermaid who loves him. The song also features Dan Faehnle on acoustic guitar, Timothy Nishimoto on backup vocals, Gavin Bondy on flugelhorn, and Robert Taylor on trombone. This arrangement by Thomas Lauderdale includes an excerpt from "Swedish Rhapsody #1 (Midsommarvaka)" by Hugo Alfvén.

About a year ago I saw this group on a CZcams video and decided to check them out. Since discovering Pink Martini, they have become my favorite group of all time. Whenever one of their songs shows up I have to watch it, everything just flows so perfactly with everything they do. Someday hope to actually get the chance to attend a concert.

El sonido que logra este grupo musical es realmente fuera de serie. Yo no lo conocía hasta hace poco tiempo. Y me quede maravillada con el director y pianista, las trompetas, el trombón , percusión y bajo. Bellísimo. Y que decir de la elegancia de las cantantes China Forbes en primer lugar, dulce y sensible voz, excelentes interpretaciones; y Storm Large, un volcán de mujer voluptuosa, con un registro y un performance increíbles.
