    One thing you didn’t mentioned: if you headshot someone, their hat goes up in the air and slowly descends , and if you go right under it, you can equip it for a little while

      If you are behind a pedestrian whos wearing a hat (not an enemy) and then tap on use key, you will steal there hat and then they will become hostile

    I was actually a beta tester on this game way back when.
    I remember then being annoyed that Prince of Persia beat them to the punch with the time-reverse mechanic as it was already in the game from an early stage xD

    One of the most underrated games ever. Despite its flaws it always gets me in a good mood whenever I play it. I always keep it installed on my pc, so sad the sequel they planned never came out.

      Ha! I immediately thought about No More Heroes once he started talking about the mission structure and the mundane "slice-of-life" jobs you gotta do in-between. The crazy power-ups are very NMH-like, too. I wonder if Suda played this.

    This game is amazing & it's insane that it's not more well known. GTA + Max Payne + a Bulletstorm-style point system way before Bulletstorm even existed makes it not just really fun, but also compellingly unique.

      Small add-on: this is one of the HD OG Xbox games and it looks absolutely fantastic. On the flip side, it's one of those games from that time where the pre-rendered cutscenes look like garbage compared to the actual game itself.

    "Victorian assault rifle" Well, there was the Venturi air rifle. Think buffalo rifle, but it used user compressed air and was a repeating arm. And it existed in the 1840s. So before metal cases with integrated percussion primers were widespread.

    I played a bunch of tps games from this era and for some reason I have fond memories from all of them. Total Overdose, El Matador, Made Man, Infernal, The Thing, Stranglehold, The Punisher, Freedom Fighters, The Suffering and so many more. This game and True Crime L.A were some of the most over the top things I've ever gotten a chance to play, and I love them for it.

    Few things I remember from this game are:
    Shooting was really fun.
    Car physics were terrible.
    The music was made from loops that changed dynamically with combat - that blew my mind back then.
    The cutscenes were inexplicably played back from video files, even though it all seemed to be a raw capture from the game anyway.
    Time rewinding felt like an amazing technical achievement.

    At 15:56 there was a glitch that allowed you to have these rampages undead as your allies which can be useful for doing other story mode mission and stuff (It even works out with a savefile)

    I played this back in the day. It had some really fun touches to it. Like how you can open the car door to bash people with it instead of diving out, being able to shoot at two targets independently while dual wielding. and if you shoot hats off of enemies you can catch them on your head before they hit the ground to wear them.
    Also, that train level at the end was pretty fucking good.

    Return of the Tres by Delinquent Habits is the main menu song if anyone's wondering. Great song and yes, it gets stuck pretty easly. For me, I still remembered the menu song even after 13 years since I last played the game

    That song from the menu will forever pop up in my head every now and then. This, the Tetris songs, Some Zelda songs, the main theme of Cave Story, the Splinter Cell Chaos Theory entire soundtrack by Amon Tobin, and the music of Hitman 2 (the old one) and Freedom Fighters by Jesper Kyd.

    total overdose is amazing it is not the least like you say and also it has no glitches in the overall gameplay and also chili con carnage is not a sequel only the characters in both the game have same looks and appearance but they have got a whole lot of different roles and jobs

      Good choice, I emulated it on pcsx2 since i didn't know it had a pc port and dear god are the missions painful and the open world trash. Still had loads of fun but def not as good as I remember even when comparing it to games of that time.

    Stranglehold and Total Overdose are probably the best Max Payne clones out there.
    I miss this style of action game, I wish it would make a comeback.

    I dont know why gman is shitting all over the game in the most of section of the video.I honestly kinda hate his review for this reason.But man I enjoyed this game so much.And honestly thought the story of this game wasnt really bad and it actually made me wanted to complete the game.I mean after total overdose no devs have ever made a gta+maxpayne style action game which really says alot about todays games industry.Also you complaining they took inspiration from gta is totally fine because whynt and you saying gta do those stunt missions better is wrong.Early gta games stunt mission of gta vice city and san andreas are so frustrating and bad.I think you are just being a gta fanboy at this point.Even I also like those games too.I think you are wrong it is amazing and memorable.

    I dunno man I never had any of these weapon inaccuracies you've mentioned, I actually liked that getting headshoots requires a bit of a skill by holding down the RMB for a second as opposed to just point and click to someones head, it's not rocket science.

    Rocket launchers on enemies as a difficulty increase.
    Gives me flashbacks from the "Capture the Secret German Treasure" campaign in Medal of Honor. There were no saves mid-level and shreks would shoot at you from behind the render distance. And if you ate a rocket, you died instantly

    Fuckin' Hell, all these years later and Total Overdose is still a one of a kind Third-Person Shooter, and certainly one of the best Max Payne Knock-Off's there is! Absolutely sucks that the cancelled sequel would have taken place in a condensed open world Mexico. As in the entire Country. All of it. Granted, it would have entire Eco-systems and capital cities next door to each other and it would have run like ass if it did launch for the 360/PS3 era but I can only imagine how more bat-shit crazy it could have been!
