    I think everyone should sing in their own mother tongue. probably we won't understand the lyric but we surely will appreciate the sound of tongue, the ancient nuances of culture they come from. I hope italy, in eurocontest, will do it always, to sing in italian! credo che tutti dovrebbero cantare nella propria lingua madre. probabilmente non capiremo il testo, ma apprezzeremo sicuramente il suono della lingua, le antiche sfumature della cultura da esse cui provengono. Spero che l'Italia, in Eurocontest, canterà sempre in italiano

    • @equestriangirly2296
      @equestriangirly2296 Před 5 lety +9

      Ask the televoters. The juries voted Austria the winner. But the televoters wanted Israel to win and their votes won the Israel the contest. Back when Waterloo won it was only music juries in all countries independently voting for the songs which made it fair and music judged by people working with music - not silly kids stuffing the votes for their latest idol with their phones by voting 20 times.

    The Beatles in 60s could be like a cheat for easy win🤣

    • @equestriangirly2296
      @equestriangirly2296 Před 5 lety +4

      Back then it was much more about single artists rather than bands. I believe no bands performed in the Eurovision until the 1970's and none won before ABBA in 1974. Also, the Beatles were a band almost exclusively listened to by teens back in the 60's whereas the music in the Eurovision (back then) was more directed towards adults. Beatles was pop music. Eurovision was called schlager music back then. You wouldn't hear pop music in the Eurovision until the 80's.
      Cliff Richard was huge in the 1960's but he didn't win the Eurovision - even though his 2nd place song "Congratulations" is much more remembered than the winner that year (Spain).
      Also, since it was juries not televoters who decided the winner it's no guarantee The Beatles would have won anyway.
      You have not understood the historical context very well.

    It was nice when everyone sang in their mother language, now most countries sing in english, you don’t have to understand the song to know that it’s nice.

    6. Youdiph (Maria Kats, Russia, 1994) - Eternal wanderer
    7. Zdravko Čolić (Yugoslavia, 1973) - Gori vatra
    8. Toto Cutugno (Italy, 1990) - Insieme 1992

    22. Cliff Richard (United Kingdom) - Power to all our friends (1973); Congratulations (1968)
    23. Johnny Logan (Ireland) - Hold me now (1987); What's another year (1980)

    25. Raphael (Spain) - Yo soy Aquél (1966); Hamblemos del amor (1967)
    Unfortunately, at the Eurovision Song Contest of recent years it is far from always possible to hear some good song. Yes, this competition over the past twenty years has become very young. And with the further development of technology, he became in this sense even more spectacular. But in terms of good songs, he noticeably decreased. Given the fact that over the past two decades, the number of participating countries in the competition has increased, the number of songs has increased also. But now the level of many of the current songs sounding there has deteriorated sharply. It is impossible to hear a song there now, about which it can be said that it will survive the time.

    Being from America and having lived here all my life, I’d never heard of Eurovision. Came to know of it a few years ago when I was looking up ABBA videos. Seems they’re the only ones, of contest winners, that made it big internationally. Don’t know about the last few years since I really don’t follow current music trends.

This years Italy entry is great too but I'm biased, Suongo Molisano.Seems like from 2004-2017 almost all the winners were spectacular. Fairytale and Amar pelos dois make me want to switch from Cello to violin, and Emmelie De Forest is... wow shes hot. 12 points to all from Ohio, I;m probably a quarter of the people who know Eurovision in this state

      I agree with you that Italy was robbed in 2011 (I wanted Slovenia to win though)and MaNga was robbed in 2010. Now while Mans song was fantastic I am still irked that the jury robbed Il Volo in 2015. I Agree about a lot of the winners from 2003 to now. My favorite winner has to be Conchita Wurst. You and I are in the minority of Americans who know about Eurovision. Greetings from Texas!

    From 1956 to 2000 all of the top songs had one single theme, nobody was really able to dance or move freely on stage. On 2001 (6:34) something changed as just a little bit of freedom was introduced and in 2002 6:43 it really became modern Eurovision thanks to Latvia and of course Turkey blew everything out of proportion at 2003 6:51. Nothing in the top songs of Eurovision since this time had ever been even close to Turkeys freedom of movement on stage so Turkey really revolutionised pop music at that time? Quite probably! Following Ukraine with Ruslana and Greece with Elena really cemented the tradition and carried pop music world wide into a new era away from the boring ballads of the past.
    It seems to me that in 2001 and 2002 was the precursor and 2003 the true turning point. It took 46 years to go from the Switzerland's "Refrain" to Sertab's "Everything that I can"
