This video explains how to change the engine oil and oil filter on a 2008 Harley Davidson Road Glide. I replaced the used engine oil with 20W-50 Harley Davidson Syn3 Synthetic motor oil and the the new oil filter is OEM.
Tools Used:
-5/8" Socket for engine oil drain plug
-End Cap Oil Filter Wrench
-Torque Wrench
Specifications:
- Engine oil drain plug should be tightened to 14-21 ft.-lbs
- Engine oil filter should be turned 1/2-3/4 of a turn after the filter seats against the engine
- Engine oil capacity is 4 quarts with a filter change - Auta a dopravní prostředky
You are the first to say clean the area before you change the oil. Great Camera!!!
Excellent video.
Thank you!!!!
thank you for the info, its great to hear someone that knows what he is doing.
Yes great video because I can now change my oil thanks bud
What I do to remove the oil filter without spilling oil all over my bike is I make a hole with a hammer and a nail on top of the filter, high enough that there's no oil coming out yet, then I do another one on the bottom so it leaks slowly and clean. Then when its all out i remove the filter. Thanks for the video!
thanks for the tip, I work in a garage for Harley and custom choppers and always wanted to know how to change oil and filter, didn't seem hard at all except for the hot part, thanks again
Sorry smallengineshop ... I don't mean to pick on you or your methods cause I think you're great for what you do. I'm just passing on tricks I learned over the years from wrenching on my own bikes because I'm a real nit-pick. Most of these newer Harleys with the "big" or "heavy" breathers get less oil blow-by running about half a quart under full capacity. I've done this on my last few Harleys with no issues. I have a 2011 Road Glide Ultra with the 103" engine and love it!
thanks for mthe video. i was racking my brains out how to do something so simple. i couldn't locate the oil plug. thanks alot for the video. it helped out nicely.
great videos, my friend from justhawgincycles taught me to put a piece of cardboard under the oil filter to funnel the dirty oil down and into your drain pan, makes it much easier to keep clean and or clean up after
Great video. Well explained and I'm looking forward to changing my oil with confidence. Thank you.
Very helpful. I worked along with the video because you explained it very well. Thank you...
Thanks for the Video - Very Helpful. Just started selling Amsoil and want to put it in my fleet of rentals which includes a Harley Roadglide.
Great info and video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the video. Perfect for me (plain and simple).
Great info, thanks for the video.
It works on my road king anyways that's the best thing I've found great video though
Watched all your videos pertaining to HD and didn't find one on changing the brake fluid. Was wondering if you would consider doing one? Thanks for the others... gave me confidence to do it myself.
Thanks - I'll ask around!
A good way to catch the oil from the filter is use aluminum foil as a funnel to the oil catch pan that's what I use
Great video - thanks! Where did you get that tool that you used to remove the oil filter? I haven't seen one that attaches to a ratchet. Thanks again!
Have you heard anything about putting about a half a quart shy of full capacity, then running bike and checking hot , then fill to hot full mark? I have heard that about a half a quart of old oil will stay in bike after draining. Thanks
Great vid but there is a clean way to catch the run-off from the filter. Not good to get oil or brake clean on your rubber engine mount. I took an empty 2 liter coke bottle and cut it with a sharp razor blade to funnel the oil into the drain pan. I also found on my bike filling to the 4 qt. capacity will blow oil out the air cleaner since I have the heavy breather on mine. I always stop at 3.5 quarts, run it and go from there ... usually 3.5 quarts keeps you in the "safe" range on the dipstick.
Good video except one thing, you never put 4 full courts in at one time, you start with 3.5 and add the rest if needed. all the oil will not drain on a oil change unless you drain it over night.
Hi! I have FLHTCUI 01, how much oil should I add ?
Where did you get that oil filter wrench
Probably Autozone. Can't remember for sure.
Thanks for the reply. I picked this one up from Amazon. www.amazon.com/GearWrench-Tools-3253-Filter-Wrench/dp/B0002SR4AY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394422692&sr=8-1&keywords=oil+filter+wrench+cap
It fits the 2014 636 oil filter perfectly, and I also went ahead and purchased the following breaker bar ..
www.amazon.com/TEKTON-1695-8-Inch-12-Inch-Breaker/dp/B000NPPAES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394422744&sr=8-1&keywords=3%2F8+breaker+bar
Perfect match, and I'm in heaven.
Nice!

Nice Pic. You should do an oil change vid...
where is oil filter located on 2010 Harley ultra classic
Dude you rock........! Good video! Like the torque values...Just for that you can come bone my sister!
thanks!
since obama sent the country into a downward spiral i can no longer afford the "luxury" of shop done oil changes. $50 if i do it (full synthetic) versus over $100 at the shop locally. not that i've never changed oil or done other things, just never on this bike, '08 FLHTC, which i bought new in '08 back when "i had money".
your vid was direct and easy to follow. again, thanks!
