I'm not running any external weights. What you might be referring to are the MDT Baker Wings which provide a flatter shooting surface as well as some indexing points for your support hand to grab the rifle and the bag. While they do weigh something, their primary use is not as a balancing weight. At this match I shot Lapua Midas+
Great shooting. I watched the Shooters Mindset live stream and I was curious why no one used the large tripod as rear support for the small tripod. Was it a time issue?
I know some people contemplated that strategy, but time was indeed a factor. In addition, the added stability would have only helped for the three near targets so from a cost/benefit point of view it was additional complexity for marginal gains. Lastly, there was enough distance between the targets where you had to pan the rifle and tripod rear might have been difficult to adjust for such a horizontal spread.

How important would you say it is to be able to attach a bag to your rifle and move everything as one piece rather than having to move a bag between positions separate to your rifle?
If you're someone that struggles with time management, I think it can be an advantage. I felt like it helped me in this match since the stages were 105 seconds rather than the 120 seconds at the monthly matches. For some stages I felt it made sense to attach the bag, and others not so much. It's kind of a personal preference based on your shooting style. Ultimately you will be best at what you practice. There are plenty of people faster than me who do not have their bags attached. They have the added benefit of being able to manipulate the bag independently of the rifle in awkward positions. I think it's a nice tool to have in the toolbox that opens up additional strategy options. However, you may end up overcomplicating the stage. You'll often find that many of the top-level shooters only use one bag for an entire match since they have mastered that piece of equipment and it's less gear to manage on the clock. In short, it is not necessary to attach a bag, but in some situations it can provide an advantage. I would focus on mastering using one medium sized wedge-shaped bag first before adding additional gear.
Right at 15 lbs, or 16 lbs with the TriggerCam attached. I switched to the Grey Birch right before nationals to shed some weight. Previously the rifle was closer to 20 lbs. Given the very minimalist buttstock the rifle is well balanced without the need for additional weights. Running a Vortex Razor Gen3, MDT Baker Wings, and a 24" straight 1.100" contour Shilen barrel. I'm shooting Lapus Midas+ at about 1075 fps
@@CopperStarPrecision yeah my current rifle is at 21 lbs and it gets heavy after awhile.(Vudoo ba Comp) I actually have the same grey Birch chassis for my Ruger 1022 and it was around 7.5 lbs perfect plinking with, not so good for nrl22. I felt like that chassis had some flex in it, but could just be the light weight of it. Yeah I've been running the same ammo. It's actually easier to find then center x.
If the fore end of your Grey Birch chassis clamps on to a picatinny section on the main body then that is the old version of the La Chassis. The newer models are a tighter fit and attach via two screws directly from fore end to body. The newer version seems to have less flex (but still some under heavy pressure) than the old version. I've been pretty happy with mine. I'm excited for the new MDT ACC Premier Gen2 which will eventually be inlet for the CZ457. I've also been curious about the Manners stock. Right now the Grey Birch does what I need it to do and keeps the weight low which does help at these longer matches.

Usually between 16x-20x depending on the stage. Lower magnification for faster target acquisition, higher power for smaller targets.

I used a tripod for rear support and I did well on this stage, would do it the same way again.
