Perfect timing getting into NRL22 picking up a CZ 457 today. Definitely going to be following your videos closely and don’t mind supporting the channel. Very curious on scopes to meet the base tournament requirements
Nice! What model did you end up with? I have a video going over the finalized ruleset here that also talks about base class combos: czcams.com/video/Pt0ipvge6zk/video.html Basically, I would suggest buying the best glass you can that puts your total MSRP under $1500 for rifle and scope. For me and the MTR I started with the Bushnell Match Pro, but have now switched to the Riton 3 Conquer. If you don't have the MTR and instead have the ProVarmint or similar model you have some more room in the budget and the hands down best bang for you buck is the Bushnell Match Pro ED version ($750 MSRP, but has gone on sale for as low as $600). It's a scope that punches way above its price point.
I have this CZ 457, still as it was out of the box, only a decent scope (Athlon Cronus) to help my old eyes, I really enjoy myself shooting between 100 and 200 yards with this piece of equipment, using SK ammo. In my case I have no plans for more upgrades, pleased with the way it is and the results I am having, but will be following your transformation because I like the rifle and the sport. Thanks.
Definitely a great rifle right out of the box. The point of this series will be modifications that are specific to NRL22/PRS Rimfire competition. Way overkill, but my goal is to show what is possible, bot what is necessary.
Glad to see you went with the CZ. Great choice! Yo Dave spring in the trigger took mine down to a very serviceable weight. It's arguably better than the Timney in my open rifle.
My Timney is a crisp 8oz, I've only been able to get this to just over a pound and not as crisp. I think with factory triggers it's a little bit luck of the draw. I'm not confident enough to do any additional polishing of the trigger or sear myself so after the trigger spring adjustment that's probably where it will stay.
Good Video Cyrus. I actually have a CZ 457 LRP on the way. Not many of them in the states and I dont think it would be possible to use in Base or Production class, but it Ill follow this because Im thinking it will need some of the same upgrades. Cya Sunday!
The LRP is awesome, but rare like you said. Nothing that I will cover is at all necessary, but I want to show what is possible to change to get the most potential out of the platform.
The scope could be lower, but as long as hight over bore is accounted for in the ballistic calculator it doesn't make a huge amount of real world difference. I might want a little bit of a cheek riser in the future, but for now it fits me comfortably.
So this rifle has a MSRP of 849 as of May 2024, the scope if it is the previous match pro is 679, the new match pro ED is 749 as of May 2024. Using the cheaper scope price : 849+679=1528. Correct me if wrong but this setup is Open Division, not Base Division.
This is not the ED version. It is the regular match pro which has an MSRP of 349.99 for non-illuminated or 399.99 for the illuminated version as currently listed on Bushnell's website. Not sure where you're seeing $679.
With the rail being so heavy I went with T-Nuts. This requires pretty precise drilling into the stock so it's best if you have access to a drill press. I wasn't confident that wood screws would last long term. I used one of the existing holes where the sling stud went and then added two more. I used a 0.75 (3/4") Forstner Bit: amzn.to/477J55M and Stainless Steel T-Nuts: amzn.to/3Z8uMMm The T-Nuts are threaded #10-24 so you'll just need some corresponding hardware. I used hex head screws. #10 screws are narrow enough to fit through the mounting holes, just make sure whatever head size you get fits in both width and depth of the rail slots. Length of the screws will depend on your depth of cut. You want enough thread engagement, but not so much that the screw will touch the barrel when it's fully seated. I'm working on a video about Da'Rail and some weight I added to it (only necessary for me because I have a 1 pound TriggerCam attached to my scope, just using Da'Rail balanced my MTR very well). That should be out in a few weeks, but it's not too hard to do, just measure a bunch before you cut into the stock.
As always great content. I have basically the exact build but a different arca rail. Was wondering how you installed Da' rail without drilling the stock??
Stock is drilled which is allowed by the rules: f. Modifications to the stock including drilling holes are not allowed unless being done with one of the following exceptions listed below: i. Bedding of the action ii. Mounting a flat rail (e.g. arca or picatinny) to the bottom of the forend. iii. Adding a cheek riser iv. Adding a sling stud.
I dove down the rabbit hole this year because of channels like this, do I think I'm going to be able to hang w/the others NO but i don't care I'm a firearms enthusiasts its just another means of shooting. I don't have an unlimited budget but things get done when they do. The people that bitch about the guys that show, explain and show how need not be blamed for others that feel the need because of their own inconsistency if you wish to compete GREAT if not then that's on you but don't be a douche about it. There my rant is done
Grey Ops Bag Stop in the "shorty" configuration. Shorty is great for the CZ, but you may want the standard length for ACIS pattern mags like in the Vudoo or RimX
In this video I have the Bushnell Match Pro 5-25x, but I am currently running the Riton 3 Conquer and have been using that the for the past month or so.
Excellent build! The first gen Match Pro did me so awesomely well! Look forward to the future content, especially with the bolt upgrades! Cheers!
Awesome! Thank you!

@@CopperStarPrecision yeah definitely let us know when patreons can sign up. Picking up the Varmint MTR.

Love your build, i went the b14r/arken route myself. Being a lefty it was the option i could actually get.
Yeah, left handed options are few and far between, but the B14r is a very capable platform.
Glad to see you went with the CZ. Great choice! Yo Dave spring in the trigger took mine down to a very serviceable weight. It's arguably better than the Timney in my open rifle.

String in the trigger? I'm not familiar with that mod. This is my first 457
@@davidleatham296 mistype, since corrected. Yo Dave spring. It keeps the factory trigger and lightens it considerably.

the 457 varmint MTR finally arrived. what mounting option did you select for the DST Precision Da'Rail did you go with?

I just bought my MTR about 2 months ago. I'm very interested to see where you take this!
Lots of videos on the way. Stay tuned!

What all did you do to the trigger
Just put in a YoDave trigger spring. Brought the weight down to about 1lb 3oz. I'll have a full video on the modification.
hey can you modify the trigger spring?
Yes, as per the rules:
d. Safe adjustments to the factory trigger are allowed but aftermarket triggers are
prohibited.
