    You were worried about health regen but let them go untouched for the entire bottom corner of the map

    Your problem getting the status effects early on comes down to the fact that you kept passing up the +1 cards. You need the +1 HP before you get bleed. You need the +1 Armor before you get burn. You need the +1 Shield before you get the poison. Likewise, you need to get more of the +1s before you can get more bleed, burn, and poison.
    The cards have an order to them. You don't need to reset your XP to make a good ballista run, you just have to know the order of the cards.
    That and you needed WAY more ballistas. You should have kept stacking more and more of them until the first split. Upgrades are great to buy, but with a single target tower like the ballista quantity is better than quality. That said, certain towers are different. One example is that you can win the entire map with just a single Tesla tower.

      So you're saying i should just pass on critical status effect upgrades unless i have the +1 cards? Nah bro, if i see bleed or poison i take it no matter what. Also in my experience, if i keep putting down towers without upgrading them i get over run exactly at wave 40 just like this guy did.

      @@mordreddelavirac No, what I'm saying is that if you don't take any of the +1 cards then you won't get offered the status effect cards. The card draws happen in a specific order with a specific hierarchy. You MUST unlock the first +1 HP before you will ever get offered Bleed for that tower type.

      Ya, two towers each doing half as much damage is always better than the single stronger tower, because you avoid overkilling weak enemies, and put more of the damage on actual living enemies.
      The only exception is a game like Gemcraft, where armor is a straight dmg reduction, so if you have a bunch of weak towers, they can end up doing literally nothing unless you can strip their armor.

      I think by reset he means not have all the other towers and their upgrades! I saw someone else do this quick but it didn't go too well because they kept getting the cards for unlocking the other towers

    In case you or anyone else didn't know/was curious, Bleed = more HP damage, Burn = more Armor damage, Poison = more Shield damage. Each DoT works on something different, until there is no armor/shield left, then it all just hits HP.

    this map is great for ballista run, because the spawn input just from 2 lane which makes your path not crowded

    I think maybe having some stuff on near death or least hp could kill those spawned units earlier, even just one or two in the middle with lots of health damage. But the small map definitely is what made this tougher

      I have good results with Near death + Most Health + Slowest on a bunch of health-specialized towers (but some on fastest, especially nearer the tower), with plenty of Most Shield and then Least Shield + Most Armor, so the latter don't try to shoot through shields when possible.

    the early on towers for HP damage could be targeted on most health, least shield, least armor so they don't waste any shots

    Dunno if you know this yet, but holding Shift on the keyboard lets you place multiple of the same unit on the field without having to choose it again.

    You don't need to reset tree. I did it with full tree unclocked. I wish there was random targeting option. I would use that for some towers a lot.

      He doesn't NEED to, but it would make it much easier if he did. Removing any card you won't use from your deck, makes your deck better. This the Ballista achievement is fairly difficult, the first recommendation to anyone attempting it really should be to reset XP, and do the ~2-3 initial runs required to unlock just Ballista and relevant status/permanent cards.

      @@ProzacStylings the problem I ran into, is if you don't max out another tower or 2 you cannot unlock the perk every round card. So it really isn't that much of a difference.

      @@summonsays2610 It's definitely a very big difference. If you unlock all Mortar, Tesla, Poison, Burn, and Bleed skills, you're very close to the last draw frequency card. At worst, you need to max out something like Encampments, and that's it. That's still 12 fewer cards in your turn-1 (and every turn after) draw pile, which is HUGE. Presuming you unlocked Univ., Mine, and did not unlock Banditry, Lifesteal, Haunted House, Mana Bank.

    I would recommend that when you are dealing with a tower with slow and a status ailment, target fastest so you can evenly apply the condition

    Just incase you still don't know, the upgrade cards, in order to unlock the DOT effects you need the damage increase for that type of dot. So to get bleed you need health+1 to get armor+1 you need burn and shield+1 to unlock poison.

    Something that is worth mentioning is that, to get the ballista only or the ballista + X achievements, you CAN actually still choose other cards on runs, you just can't place their towers. A lot of towers have useful passives that impact everything though, like getting slow up to 90% by taking some frost tower passives (obviously it's inefficient to have to pick upgrades that are useless just to unlock some passives, but it's not uncommon to have pulls full of useless choices anyway)

    You had like 5 +3 terrains on the left side, which would get you more dmg and cover 3 lanes.
    Also the second mana bolt upgrade was a mistake, cause you have to spam more ballistas to make use of most upgrades, which is harder with that mana consumption.

      Yeah - I just did another run where I made it on the old patch. I think it's probably easier now too with the new patch. I made it to 30 doing a 3 way all ballista, gonna try again at some point.

    The beholders have the highest health of all standard units ingame, so you can target them with "Most Heath", which will slow them down.
    Once their speed is reduced, you can use a couple of ballistas set to "Slowest" to pop them.
    To get rid of their eyes, I think it's best to just set up a bunch of low-level ballistas set to "Progress" - but you need a lot of those.
    I think you probably should have won if you had optimized your income by putting more towers next to those houses.
    The mines also would have helped once you had gotten them. Keep in mind that you get all of the money back once you demolish them.

    Great video! I do think you tried to overcomplicate a lot of it though, I got the achievement by being stupid, everything was left on progress, and just surround houses and cover ever elevation 2/3 spot with ballista's and you've got a free win :D

    one thing i don't understand, why don't build some balista on left side of the map? there some enemy u can kill so u can split damage and kill the lowest health of enemy, or am i wrong?

    Resetting isn't necessary to manage ballista only, but it certainly does help. You can speedup the unlocks by doing 1 run on each of the 3 defence types as your first 3 runs, since you get a whole bunch of xp for setting a "new pb" on each of them

    Ran in the same situation like you. Early run out of map. Once I hit lvl7 it was the end of my map. I was playing with a really small map which annoyed me. Stressful and at the same time fun.

    I think the difference between mana banks and mana siphon is like 25 gold cheaper per mana in favor of the mana siphon. Mana banks are more expensive but freedom of placement is hard to pass up

      Exacrly, AND the +20 cap helps survive the times where all turrets are busy.
      A recnt patch nerfed the banks so badly that they're hardly worth taking any more except for that cap later on.

      @@achtsekundenfurz7876 Not really. They now scale up with your natural regen + Sorcery cards. With Sorcery 3, they give 2.2 mana/sec. Not as good as they were, of course, but their advantage was in the 'place anywhere' ability, not their cost efficiency.

    I've had this game for a few weeks now and for my ballista only runs I make murder valleys, basically taking a straight away and doubling up ballista's the whole way

    Do mana banks next to houses give gold bonus? Also confused by mana concerns, but not taking sorcery for more mana generation. As well as not making more turrets when mana is capping out easily. Though not sure the bonus damage from mana is worth the extra cost of mana generation when that could just be put into more towers. More towers also levels on its own faster and cheaper.

      Mana banks do indeed get gold from houses.
      I'm not sure of his reasons, but in my experience Sorcery is pretty mediocre (and that's on a newer patch where it does more than a flat +3) because it takes a card to do the job of a little gold. In most cases by the end I could spare several times the amount of gold needed for that regen but still want more cards.

    How after....15 batista is your next NOT 2K+?
    I hadnt filled the xp cards out yet but only have 1 of the final 120xp cards for batista, but my treasury and card draw and stuff are maxed

    Just got this game Saturday - soooo addictive! Already have all my blues unlocked, and now unlocking other types of towers (particle, landmines, laser pyramid)(sorry, forget the names now!)...
    I won on a map like this - you just have to look for the murder corners, i.e. corners where you can maximize cover area.
    But I actually came here to say - once you were set up (past Oogie), and you realized you had a small map, why didn't you prioritize the +3 and +2 placements? I always go for those first, then fill in the +1s.

    I believe that priority works like this. most *something* works as a multiplier, least *something* works as a devider. E.g. fastest + most armour works as fastest x armour in the calculation; fastest + least armour works as fastest ÷ armour in the calculation. Then that value determines the target.

      I would 100% by this game if it had a list of your current towers and upgrade levels. Having to click every Tower to upgrade it gets annoying and if you miss one that sucks

      you are correct, forget who it was, but they talked to the dev, its not this then this, its all 3, each one gives a value, say you have fastest armor, it will go look at units, assign each numbers based on your priority settings, be it, multiply, divide, what have you, depending on your settings, and then shoots at whatever comes out as the highest value, near death works on health percentage.

    Never played, but it seems like you wanted your towers to kill stuff and you set them to progress when I believe you wanted them to kill stuff. You pumped their health damage and I believe using least health would have gotten better results due to ignoring Armour and shields.

      The ones with armor/shield still have a small amount of health so if you set it to lowest hp and only pumped the hp damage they would sometimes end up shooting a high armor/shield unit and be a wasted tower for their duration that round

    mana bank gives you +4 mana regen but also raises your max mana for 500 gold. the mana syphon is just +1 mana regen at 100 Gold.

      @@stevenglikin3219 they updated it to be a percentage of your max magic. So it scales and there is a boost for it.

    in ballista only, you shouldnt go for mana bolts, because you will have so many ballistas in the end and you have to invest way to much into mana

    Resetting your upgrades hurts more than it would help. You would go back to fewer cards, cards every three levels, a lot less gold...

      Part of "resetting your upgrades" is then building back up by choosing cards you DO want, and not choosing cards you won't use. Resetting your deck to remove useless cards for your intended build will always make your build stronger, in this game.

    According to what you said earlier in game about resetting the exp to get less irrelevant cards, I really think it is a design flaw that you are not able to select your "loadout" before game. You should be able to disable towers you don't want to see before the game starts.

      No because the point is its supposed to be a roguelite/lught (cant remember which is which) so u get the random choice of upgrades in the 'run'. Being able to choose what u brought in would stop it being that.

    would’ve gone differently if u actually upgraded the health damage on the ballistas next to ur tower i don’t understand why u never upgraded them. just stupid

      They have less base damage and range, due to being on the low ground. Of course anyone who's actually played the game knows that, and has no reason to go around talking insults at someone they don't know.

      @@Harrs2 What does that matter when they are at the end of the run. Better a dead enemy than a tower with less damage letting them through just because they have less +attributes.
