  • In this video we take a quick look at a DIY hack to repair a cross threaded spark plug hole in my John Deere 125 Automatic Lawnmower. This can also be applied to other small engines and gas-powered outdoor power equipment.
There are obviously better and more proper ways to fix a cross-threaded spark plug hole, I know... This is just a backyard DIY method that can be attempted with some common tools you have around the house without you needing to spend any extra money. Please do this at your own risk and seek professional help if you are not comfortable working on your own small engine.

You said, "... on winterizing my mower... I noticed I made a huge and terrible mistake..."
    ------------------
Say no more, say no more-- all of us have done that, or almost have done that. In my own case, after a lifetime of maintaining lawnmowers, I was a bit careless on reinstalling the spark plug. Plug removal had become a temporary necessity as my mower engine neared replacement of its piston rings. Without cleaning the plug before starting the mower, black oil residue on the spark plug prevented mower start.
For the immediate future, I realized the spark plug hole, itself, must be cleaned out with a rag (moistened with oil) on a regular basis so that the plug moves smoothly in its correct threads. Without regular cleaning of the spark plug threads and plug hole, a bad plug alignment can feel exactly like a normal insertion into a dirty but otherwise undamaged thread hole.
Nice video-- clear and to-the-point, with good, steady camera and non-reflective lighting. The Dremel tool was the star of the show.
Thanks for the emergency measure. We found similar approaches with other videos, but none exactly lke yours, using the (modified) original spark plug as a thread "chaser". We thumbed up and subscribed.
