- After restoring my crashed 240sx s13 project car with an RB25det, the time has come to begin the installation of an important piece. After digging deeper into the Nissan S13 240sx, we begin working on my girlfriend's SR20det 240sx. After the T28 turbo upgrade, we are still having a strange issue with her project car... what could it be?

Mike is the only guy on youtube to build an entire car with 1 hand.... the ADA would proud of your single-handed skills.
True cuz he's always filming, XD
mike's great! he is so genuine!! something that is missing with a lot of yt'er these days
W mike he the magic maker
I would suggest a head camera but i not sure Mike would use his other hand anyways 😂
Just always have a passenger with their foot against the ECU. Bam. Problem solved.
This is genius 😅
Cheapest and most wholesome solution
or when it stops working just smack ECU part like wherever it is located it works always
@@PrizzaMike Love your videos bro. Did you check the o2 sensor on the franzys 240sx? That might be the cause for max rich
that harness just needs a quick little repin and it will be golden, no need for an entire new harness.
I was thinking about repairing it, but there are multiple questionable ' mods ' that were done to it unfortunately
@@PrizzaMike that's always the biggest issue
@@PrizzaMike a touched harness is a no go for sure lol
Well the harness is probably the issue, but I've had similar issue's with bad crank/cam sensors, they would go out once the car got warm.
"Act normal" 😀 lolol love the steering wheel. I got the same one but Dark wood :)😊
Wood wheels for the win! 🔥
Was actually thinking about it lately whats it called and where can i grab one?
Where did you get yours? Been looking around for a dark wood steering wheel
I found my wheel on Ebay 😀 lolol
I found mine on Buyee!
"And if I do die in this car, it's meant to be. Whatever, sometimes you just gotta be okay with that" words I couldn't agree with more.
I had the same issue with my sr in my s13. I tell everyone timing, set tps, make sure you have no vacuum leaks and they'll run 100%. my IACV was bad once and it did the same thing as well. But mines been going strong stock ecu, turbo, and 11psi since 2017. Your vids are incredibly inspiring too man, you really make it happen!
Valve covers aren’t under vacuum, if anything they’re pressurized with crankcase pressure. A bad o2 sensor will cause max rich as a safety. U can put a leak down tester on it and if your coolant bubbles, it’s a head gasket
There's a breather from the cover to the admission (between the MAF and turbo, although he doesn't have the OEM elephant trump anymore so I don't know where it goes now), and the PCV that allows oil vapours to be sucked directly into the manifold.
If the gasket leaks, it can confuse the ecu since a small part of the air won't pass through the MAF.
But it'd be a small leak, it wouldn't have a hug effect.
An oil catch can would mess with it even more, if it's vented to atmosphere, since the vent works both ways, and even that didn't have a dramatic effect on mine (before I plugged the PCV and kept only the breather connected to the OCT).
Mine was running rich due to a disconnected coolant temp sensor (clip was broken, looked connected but wasn’t quite there), but it also struggled to start when warm
First thing ive always sorted is the making sure all the earth points are bare metal earth point not sending the correct proper current can cause stupid issues
take your time doing the cage...it gets tedious burning in all the joints.measure everything twice and cut twice, cut a little bit less then you think and test fit then do the final finish fit...make sure all the joints where the welds go are nice and clean...also i recommend using like a 2" slip collar over the bottom of the tubes of the main hoop where they weld to the floor plates....slide the collars over the tubes then weld the hoop tubes to the floor plates, then slide the collars down and weld around the collars top and bottom, its like extra insurance against weld breakage on the hoop attachment to the floor having 2 layers welded up.sections can be tacked up in the car to make it easier then burned in as an assembly then reinstalled in the car and burned in.
only 1 minute in but the turbo sounds sooo good lol
Hey Mike, that polyurethane that he uses, I'm not entirely sure, but he probably used 3M windo-weld, that stuff is fantastic for it's intended use, and can also be utilized to fill voids in stock new rubber or worn bushings to greatly stiffen them up, kinda like a budget option polyurethane bushing or mount.
Ive personally used it to great success in many of my projects where I wanted to greatly stiffen up a bushing but polyurethane versions were unavailable or horribly expensive.
With that being said this stuff is messy and does not wash off easily, so make sure you mask off the areas and wear gloves.
You know I’m tuned in when I seen the seat belt and instantly had integra in my head!! Been supporting since the beginning Mike keep it up!!!!💪🏾💯
Mike have you checked the idle air control valve. If they go bad it will create a vacuum leak and have the tendency to cause the vehicle to die when stoping or coming out of load as its job is to stabilize the idle during transition from load to idle. Just in case the wiring harness issues doesn't resolve your idle problem. Also a vacuum leak that is undetected like this would cause the ecu to want to enrich the fuel mixture cause, typically ecus can only compensate for fuel and timing only not air or vacuum especially if the valve isnt doing its job.
Other than that shotty electrical lmao, you could try cleaning the throttle body to fix the neutral stalling issue.
It could also be a vacuum leak, but I've had that same problem, and cleaning the throttle body solved it for me.
makes my day when ever i see a new PRIZZA VID before work
Every video is like fresh fuel for the gas tank! Love the progress.
Found your channel a few weeks ago and have watched like 50 videos to catch up. You're doing great work bro. Love the vids.
On franzy's 240 check the intercooler piping to see if there might be any leaks with a smoke machine or just use the smoke machine for vacuum leaks in general. My 240 was doing the exact same thing and I chased around trying to figure out what was causing it and finally ended up figuring out the intake boot was torn and that was causing it to die as soon as I push in the clutch and roll it in neutral
Awesome videos man 💪🏽I’m lovin it
love the vids keep it up!!
Great video mike!
I really enjoy watching you turning screws
another banger vid bro keep it up!!
Watching ur progress on everything has been nuts and great
The dying in neutral is 100% electrical problems combined with the dash problems.
Remove the wiring solder new ones and and reconect to see if it works before trying to buy a new harnes, messing with wires is a simple job but it takes time.
Watching ur videos makes my day man love the videos ❤
Rhys Millen and his team did all the racing and drifting in the fast and furious tokyo drift movie without damaging a single car unless they were asked to. aspire to greater things, I know you have the ability. if you keep saying crashes are just part of drifting then you will never reach a higher level. crashes can happen but if you pay close attention to your equipment and are a patient and responsible driver they are an extremely rare occurrence. the trick to learning to push your car to it's limits is not full send, crash, repeat. the trick is patience and baby steps, you push your car slowly a little bit more at a time until you find the limit and that takes alot of seat time. everybody wants to look cool for their friends and full send eveytime hoping they get it the first time, but the guy that goes out and does a soft lap just feeling the car and how it interacts with the road that doesn't give a sh*t whos watching and slowly pushes the car harder and harder enjoying the experience, is the guy that will throw down the best laps and never crash unless an actual accident occurs. people keep making this same excuse instead of trying to be better. I don't understand it. you're a good driver, push to be better, don't fall in with the excuse makers. hopefully this conveys my meaning more than other posts in the past.
10:21 lol! my manta has the same issue! the bump in the passenger footwell/floor even looks similar
Love the videos man and i cant wait to see the car all in one colour
i swear this guy saves my saturdays bro when i have to go early for work these videos save me bro love it ❤❤❤ keep it up
Well, if you wanna check it for vacuum leaks, just have the car idling and spray some brake clean or something similar on and around the intake side. If you got a leak it'll raise the RPMs a lill bit when it sucks the spray in, so take it in small areas at a time, to easily identify and hone in on where the leak is
It works rly good, I did it on my E46 330Ci and it took like 1 min to find where I was pulling air
im so excited to see you move on with this car and button it up!
Put your mic in between the back window and the bottom part of the hatch. the window will still block wind but it wont be right up on the exhaust so it wont clip as bad. also if your mic has a gain/input volume adjustment turn that down a little and just boost it in post if you need to.
good stuff Mike.
Wish we could get some tool sponsors coming your way.
I got an idea to check for vacuum leaks and its to hook up a smoke machine up to it. I hooked one up on my turbo celica and the boost was bouncing between numbers like yours was doing it made finding my problem very easy i just needed a new throttle body gasket and a new vacuum line because it had a rip i couldn't see with my own eyes
A minute and 20 seconds into this video and mike’s already blessing ears with that ASMR
Few days late but I am going to say that your problem is most likely your wire harness. Either have to repair it or replace it.
Completely different car but I was daily driving my turbo civic with a hondata s300 all winter with no issues. Now that the weather is warmer, the car would randomly start misfiring and bogging down and running like crap. During data logging I noticed that the MAP and TPS readings were very erratic when the car was running like crap. I replaced the MAP and still had the same issues. I replaced the TPS (which was a very difficult process to do because they're riveted on and rusted into place) and I haven't driven the car since so I can't confirm if the issue is fixed or not. But, while I was reinstalling the throttle body, I noticed the MAP and TPS wires had been cut and extended to work with the GSR swap. There was also some oil residue on it because the PCV was just venting to atmosphere. That may have been my issue all along. Definitely worth looking into your wiring harness.
Hey Mike!!
Now I don't know much about the KA but at least for Hondas and Subarus, if it's idling like that and you're unable to find a vacuum leak. Usually it's the idle air control valve that's gone bad. Especially with those symptoms of the idle being sporadic only when it's warm definitely sounds like an idle air control valve. That ECU issue is weird though.
Love the vids man, I always appreciate the fantastic amount of work you put in them.
Mike always makes my day better
Saturdays are for prizzamike! Another banger!
So proud of how far you’ve come if you ever come to Australia I got something for you
after the harness is done i recommend looking into a tune possibly, might not be 100% but id th8ink with a manifold with more flown than a OE one and a diff turbo it could be making it rich outt
its a little rough on the box but you can also leave the rb 13 in gear when parked for extra insurance for a roll away
The carpet in my 03 Corvette does the same time. The center console gets so hot inside, I could probably cook a frozen burrito in there.
ive had that die at clutch in before. check your bov if it vents to atmosphere and if it has a tightening screw. i would also suggest to recirc it if possible as SR's are super finnicky with this. I would also check your fuel press regulator, those oem ones, their diaphragm blows out and will go pig rich, which can also cause the dying when clutch in. then i would check the coolant temp sensor and if its operating. those are the main issues with SR's with bolt on's. That ecu connection is a big one too though. had that issue as well but mine had a tiny layer of corrosion on the pins for some reason and i was running on 2 and 3 cylinders and then once i cleaned the pins she was mint. theyre all simple tests which should help source the issue.
Hey mike! Update on the supra, I think I found a good 2JZ to swap into the car, I may do it, but may not idk. I think I just wanna rebuild the current engine, if I take shortcuts, there's more risk that I end up in the situation that i'm in now, btw, since you took the glass out of the 240, does that mean paint is gonna come soon? Or are we waiting to to all of that?
That wood valve cover is fire dude i like that!!!!! 80s truck dash style!
Watching your videos keeps me motivated to get my projects finished. You make my stuff look so simple compared to the stuff you do. Thanks
Try an oem o2 sensor in the SR. I had the same problem, stalling, pegged rich once warm. O2 fixed mine
You should repair the cracks on the dash and flock it
Speedometer is often the harness in the wheelwells, my tire ate through them and it went out
My miata used to do that when i had boosted it. It was a vacuum leak i Didnt feel like fixing. I just left the ac button on so it kept the revs up.
That valve cover finish is not the move 😂
You should get a chest mount when youre working on your car! that way you can use both hands lol
i love the raw s13 videos it feels nostalgic
I saw a old option video with a guy using a bungee on the hand brake when he parks. Maybe not good when it's a hydro? Just a idea keep it comin Mike love the journey
I think may be your maf sensor. My sr20det would do this all the time idle fine/drive fine, as soon as I throw in neutral it would just shut off I used to spray maf cleaner in it almost every 4 days until i finally got a new one
love the bulid
Do a boost leak test on the SR. In my experience that helps a tone to find the leaks to fix a maft car that won't idle. On Mitsubishi's I've done the other major issue is the IAC valve.
Stalling on decel is very possibly maf or iacv or throttle body set screw setup
i’m way too high and it’s late but i wasn’t looking at the screen when cisco arrived and got so scared cause i wasn’t expecting to hear my same name get said LOL
Prizza mike even after the 1 million subs and all the money comes please keep up with the great, genuine content man
“If I do die in this car, then it’s meant to be” cold for some reason. Always drive safe 🫡
sick stuff
You can temporarily fix the connector bending just a bit in the male side so it touches the walls of the female side. Just be careful of not over doing it.
I am no expert on s chassis but I had similar experience with my 2002 ford focus 1.4(Europe). As soon as took my foot of the throttle and put it in neutral it would hover around 250 rpm and die or die instantly. I checked for vacuum leak , I even replaced the throttle body still the same issue. Turns out it was the idle control valve. Once I changed it my problem went away.
Ps. Much love from Greece love the content
i love the 240sx and i was wondering if i should get one for my first car. and if i should put parts on it and drift it.
If there is a vehicle speed sensor on franz’s s13 that could be causing it. We had a bad one on a subaru and the rpm and speedo didn’t work and the car would die when you would come to a stop idle.
Need you to hit up Cisco for me lol. Ask whats the best way to swap out the hatch glass. Trying to pull mine from my wingless hatch to paint it, then pull the glass from my original hatch to install in the wingless. Any input would be much appreciated and thanks for the conent and motivation. Always look forward to your videos
I know I get nervous when I'm around cops to myself. I love seeing you work on your 240sx
New Video lets go
Runnig rich could be o2 sensor or maybe air flow meter - that would be guess. About Franzy's car dying on idle, or even during a drive - it might sound odd, but try to fix the speedo first; now the ecu receives wrong info from the vss, and that could causes those problems. Goodl luck, and thanks for the vid man:)
Glad No broken glass
Could also be your ecu/tune..! Had this issue with my skyline gtr and an aftermarjet ecu solved the issue. Now im not an expert just making a suggestion like try a different ecu....but otherwise great guy and much respect for all the work you do...!
Maybe use old dash to cut first before you cut new dash..? Love the Channel!
Not totaly sure how the s13 engine control works but my tuned saab 9-5 had a simular issue when the crankshaft position sensor started acting up, my issue was the sensor itself, but maybe it could be the wiring to the ecu from a simular sensor.
i’ve wanted to ask what song it the one u use for ur outro it’s so fire
Well i had a trouble like that, rpm fall and engine stall on my 180sx. And it was the throttle body screw . It came off and fell. So i just found another one and adjust it
The last time I had that problem I had carbon buildup in my throttle body I just had to clean very good but it worked 👍
nice video! what do you record with?
AE86s have the same issue, you will actually feel your leg getting warmer on a long cruise.
You should see what RX7s are like, anything rotary. The cabin gets so hot you actually cook. Rotarys don't have a cold stroke like 4 stroke engines so there is no cold air going through the exhaust, like a 2 stroke, so exhaust runs stupid hot
@@nzuncovered1845 my best friend has a sa22 and fc so I'm aware how hot they can get too ha. Nothing but 18 ga and 1/4 inch price of sound deadening.
Change the coolant temp sensor for the ecu
S13 has already been my dream car, but dude you make me want one even more 😭
Yo the wood grain valve cover is lit
have you looked at the 02 sensors on the sr20 s13?
Is it possible to tuck the cage inside the A pillar? That way u don't have to cut the dash and the car looks pretty oem
gauges sometime have cold solder joints, you could look into that maybe, it was my issue
That's what I was going to comment as well.
But those old bords can be tricky to resolder, I gave up on mine after several attempts, the solder is bubbling and not fusing properly, even after I cleaned it and apply new solder, I think maybe the board is defusing when heated :(
The odometer works again so I'm not touching it anymore XD I can work around the speed info but I need to keep track of my mileage.
Doing this amount of work 1 handed while filming is an under rated flex.
Put zipties around the pcm i had to do this on my toyota
Sounds like it’s the wiring for sure
Man I love the 180sx but the Gloria on the back... is just a piece of art
Idle control valve check that out
ну наконец-то выпускай как можно чаще видосы очень интересные
Check your tps is calibrated properly I had the same issue
My bad I just watched further haha confirmed good tps
Sounds like skyline 🎉
put a inline shutoff valve for your hydro ebrake
about the runnign problem of franz's car, could it be the MAF sensor since you have modified hotside and turbo inlet pipe? i once had idling and dying problems with new turbo and shorter inlet pipe, it somehow messed with MAF readings and by making the pipe longer, the problem went away
So straight to the paint booth after the cage goes in?
icl watching these videos make me want to stay on my motovehcile course at college as i want to eventually do this kind of stuff, your videos are very insperational to me mr prizzamike
