Yeah. Literally all bowie. His folky beginnings. That lovely late 60s space oddity album into man who sold the world. Paving the way for Hunky Dory and of course Ziggy. I'd argue no artist has had more artistically impactive era as bowie did from 1970~-1977. Those 7 years especially 1970-74 he just had amazing album after amazing album. Every single track of every album memorable. Of course scary monsters was lovely into his pop period. But I loved it all, heathen has become one I play more often. Never get tired of bowie.

But like Snoop Dogg says, "don't let the smooth flava fool ya"! Bowie's catalog is a rabbit hole of musical styles, constantly changing his look to go with the character contained in "album". Musically, David Bowie is all over the place with his versatility. Fame is from 1975. I remember when this song was new on the radio and back then most of your top 40 was played on AM, where the sound quality is terrible and you had one speaker on the dashboard in the car, but there were few rock stations on FM back in the day. Near the end where they sang Fame from high to low were tricks that were done on tape machines. Rebel Rebel is a good one, but it's a straight up rock song and not funky, but still great. Let's Dance is awesome and he has a whole lot of other things. Just Google his catalog and pick one. Great reaction.

Was a blazing hot day that security had to use Firemen Hoses to spray the crowd down periodically during the shows. To the crowds surprise when Bowie emerged from the Center of the top of the Glass Spider on stage.... directly beneath him was Peter Frampton as his Lead Guitarist. It was a fucking unbelievable moment and the crowd went insane. Top 5 show I've EVER seen in my 54 years. Affirmative not necessary.... eat your hearts out kids....

David Bowie was Ziggy Stardust, Thin White Duke, Major Tom, Alladin Sane, and Jarreth the Goblin King One thing most of all was class. He toured with other groups as pianist with no fanfare. After working with Iggy Pop on albums and tours in interviews he would tell the person doing the interview if they asked a question about him he would walk out. His place was promoting the other person and that was why he was there. David Bowie recreated himself, becoming someone new and special along the way ... Creating new genres of music or narrating Peter and the Wolf. Acting as The Elephant Man and carrying the performance free of makeup. There were 149 Million albums sold, he made 111 singles, 51 music videos and 25 albums, his final album released two days before his death from cancer. The musicians and everyone involved had sworn to keep his health issues secret as he worked ... He lived with class and died that way ...

"John Lennon helped write this song - he came up with the title and also sang the background "Fame" parts in the high voice. They started working on the song when Bowie invited Lennon to the studio, and Lennon played rhythm guitar on a jam session that resulted in this track. . . . "In funk music, what you want to do is put down a lot of holes," Alomar recalled to Mojo magazine of the song's instrumentation, "leaving a little space for someone to be able to dance in. Lennon played acoustic guitar and we reversed it and that's the suction sound you hear at the beginning." At the end of this song, "Fame" is repeated 23 times, each "Fame" being a different note. The repetitions of "Fame" span an amazing four octaves. [from songfacts.com]

That funk you hear is from Carlos Alomar, a Puerto Rican guitarist who grew up in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, played guitar in James Brown's band and also the house band at the Apollo Theater. He played in Bowie's band for many years and was the musical director on some of Bowie's tours. The "Young Americans" album was recorded at Sigma Sound Studios in Philly mid-1970s. Luther Vandross created the vocal arrangements for that record. He and Carlos were childhood friends. Chuck

Bowie defied classification, he was definitely funky, and he was also many other things as well. Everything he did was different from everything else he did. Other songs to check are "Under Pressure" which was a "duet" with Queen and was the source for Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby", "1984" which he released in 1974, "Golden Years" which was more funk from the Thin White Duke, "Let's Dance" which was a great dance tune, and his magnum opus, "Space Oddity".
