    • @hiyadroogs
      @hiyadroogs Před 3 lety +7

      @@BazIrvine Nothing to do with age, but motivation & self discipline. Tyson's only opponent in life, & especially in boxing, has only ever been himself. He was lost as a child, & lost for most of his adulthood. When Cus was alive, Mike briefly felt that he was worth something, & felt the approval from Cus that was worth fighting & winning for. The Jesuits have had a saying for hundreds of years. 'Show me a boy of 7, & I will show you the man.' Self worth is instilled early in life, & people have spent entire lifetimes trying to rise from the ashes of their childhood years.

      @Cryer24597 Coulda, woulda, shoulda. We can all speculate about what COULD have happened, - but none of us, not even the boxing professionals, know what WOULD have happened. You could just as easily speculate, - who did Ali ever meet who was remotely the equal of a prime 19 - 21 year old Tyson? Frazier came closest in size, work rate & style, & Frazier believed rightly or wrongly that he won all 3 fights, & floored Ali in one. & Frazier was completely blind in one eye in all 3 fights. In style, speed, knockout punch in both hands, Tyson could have won easily. But that doesn't mean that he WOULD have won, because Ali had far more heart, & didn't become frustrated & disheartened when he couldn't knock his opponent out. Same with Lewis & Holyfield. Tyson absolutely had the power, speed, & defense to have destroyed both in his prime skill years. That still doesn't mean that he WOULD have. Lewis, Holyfield & Ali, all had a measured, calm skilled style that gets better with age & wisdom. Tyson, on the other hand, because he was only 5'11" at best & 15 & a half stone, had to rely on Frazier's style of speed, defense, body movement, & multi punch complex combinations, with a very aggressive high work rate. This only suits youth & hyper fitness, along with highly disciplined training. Lose any one of those aspects, & Tyson becomes vulnerable to 6'5"" big hitters & shrewd defenders. As we saw in the Douglas fight, looking for single shots instead of combinations, & a very low work rate, simply didn't work for an undisciplined, complacent, lazy Tyson, & he paid the price against a man he should have beaten inside the first round. But Douglas, as Mike acknowledged, trained specifically & fought the best fight of his entire career. For Douglas, they met at precisely the right time in their careers. Douglas in the ascendant of his career, Tyson spiralling downwards out of control. & that is my point here. Early on, Lewis lost against Tyson when they were both young, but Tyson lost to Lewis & Holyfield later in his career, when he had lost skill, speed, & combinations, & they had gained in experience & defense. Everyone has a moment in time when they are the best they are ever going to be. Tyson's came early, Lewis, & Holyfield's came late career.

    • @hiyadroogs
      @hiyadroogs Před 3 lety +2

      @Cryer24597 If you watch back all Tyson's victories, you notice that not one of his knockout victories was a straight arms length punch. Every single one was either a right or left hook, or an upper cut. He was the little guy against every single one of his opponents, which meant that they all had a considerable reach advantage over him. This means that straight punching at distance made him extremely vulnerable to long ranged big hitters! He HAD to get inside & up close where his opponents reach held no advantage. That requires a very elusive quick moving defense, an extremely forward aggressive high work rate, & multiple punch combinations to work the body to bring the hands down to leave the head open. A low work rate & just waiting for an opening for a single punch to the head would only work for a very tall long reach big straight hitter like Wilder, or Lewis. For a little guy like Tyson or Frazier, it would be catastrophic. & it was, as we saw before the Douglas fight even happened. Tyson was becoming lazy & complacent 3 fights before the Douglas farce.
