Books are amazing. A Dance of Dragons is finally done! Cant wait to read it. So pumped for the show. Puts LOTR to shame in every category.

i really love the atmosphere i see here! the scenery looks great, not all cheesy the way it often comes across in fantasy movies/tv shows.

holy hell this show looks better and better with each featurette, and i'm more and more certain they're gonna pull it off nicely. wonder how well the necessary CGI will fit in with the practical shots and the look of the rest of the stuff. also can't wait to see some Others.
honestly i hate to have GRRM rushed, but i'm hoping he can conclude the last two books in the next 5 years (assuming ADWD is pretty much done by now, i hope...)
The worlds GRRM has created are very fascinating! I love how they are diverse and each has their own cultures, trades, religions etc. HBO has done a great job bringing the 7 kingdoms and the lands beyond to vivid life :)
I hope you have a map while you're reading. I couldn't even read 100 pages without a map.
The first book does have a map and so do the others in the series. It was actually the maps in the second book that got me intrigued in the series actually. I also watched the videos on the history of Westeros and each house which helped define key places and the importance of them.

GRRM has stated before that he doesnt like people comparing him to Jordan in the sense that he will die before finishing the books. Jordan was his friend and hes said he doesnt like people predicting his death .

I want to get excited but it's hard to considering I've been waiting so damn long for Dance. At this point, wanting to finish the series is like me wanting to finish Lost. I really didn't care much anymore at the end but I'd put in enough time that it was being a chore to finish.

But its too bad that there really isnt anything out atm in terms of series or movies where it really does take place in a different universe (since people always put our own way of thinking into the movie, which also brings with it our moral and ethical dilemmas..so it never is really different.)

I'm loving the series so far with all the political intrigue and personality clashes. Just wondering though if any fantasy elements will be introduced? Please no spoilers since I have yet to read the books.
I'm aware of Jordan's regrettable death. If we lose Martin too however that will be too much. He isn't the healthiest guy either.
@vittoriacolona I agree you might have a point, but might not. They were explaining the contrast between Winterfell and King's Landing and were looking for examples of extravogance. They might have purpusely chosen to mention brothels because they think the sex aspect will appeal to people. That was my first thought when I heard it. But it's also possbile they genuinely thought brothels were the best example to describe the overindulgent attitude of the south.

@xnorwaks When mentioning Rome it's wise to remember that HBO regretted cancelling the show when they saw how much profit they made on the DVD-sales. This show is not as expensive, plus that it has an already existing fan base and has gotten great response from the people that has gotten to watch the first two episodes, so while you never know I think it's fairly safe to be optimistic.
@Slosher452 There's a chance that the potential second season will be aired already by the end of this year. Rumors say that HBO has high hopes on that GoT will be another huge show for them and winter is the best slot to put it as they already have big drawing shows in other seasons of the year. It would of course make the tag line "winter is coming" more appropriate, even if that's of course not a very relevant factor.

Generally Hbo releases a show on DVD/Blu ray about a few weeks or months before the new season airs. So in other words if HBO does a season two of the show and releases it April next year then season one will probably come out on video about this time next year

@vittoriacolona Actually, there are quite a few scenes that take place in the brothels of Kings Landing. Tyrion's lover and Tywin's use of her for power over Tyrion takes all center around brothels.
Mind you, they're not a central point in the story, but there are pivotal moments that take place there.

@xnorwaks I certainly can't blame you for the feelings on Dance. :) I still hope it will be done soon as George seemingly only has to finish three chapters, but it's easier to focus on the show as it's guaranteed to air the 17:th of April.
@JackoThe1st I reckon we'll see the first season on discs before the year is out. At least, that's how long my patience will last...

@TheMockFrog I was under the impression that Game of Thrones was more costly then Rome, but after a little bit of searching I see that this is not the case. I will agree with you that its good to be optimistic, but I've become disillusioned after waiting for Dance for so long haha!
@Atalantius Also a little concerned, absolutely stoked for the show, but i worry that such dense material, with a million different factions will be too much for any but the most hardened fans to follow. In terms of complexity its a order of magnitude more involved that something like true blood, or even the sopranos. Id liken it most to deadwood, and we all know how badly that was treated by hbo in the end.

@WhimsicalPirate The only way to ever be pleased with an adaptation is to take it on its own merits and be grateful if it maintains the feel of the source material without being overly burdened by it trying to replicate it.
You're either joking or just ignorant. The coat of arms is almost a 1000 years old and some years back archeologists found one from the 12'th century. Most believe the M is part of the original A and M which stood for "Ave Maria". The rose is called the "Rose of Virtue" and is also religious. It has absolutely nothing to do with modern day political parties.
Westeros is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia, almost 1000 years. Human settlements are a lot older. Maybe 3000 years old.
Maybe he should write the last one next, that way at least it can be published post-humously should it come to that and we know what happens lol
If George pulls a Robert Jordan on us were going to give him the kiss of life and make him un-George and finish the dang books!

@TheLueii as mean and nasty of a thing this is to say, the Wheel of Time has improved with the death of Jordan. The first 5 books were gold, but after that he seemed to lose the plot a bit. The last 2 posthumous books were a vast improvement over everything after book 5.

@Atalantius cont...I've also not been incredibly enamored by the (admittedly little) acting we have seen so far. It seems a little wooden, perhaps because of the period-like setting. Also all the Dany scenes seem filmed in a soft focus, 70's soft core porn filter ala emmanuelle, i hope that it isnt too jarring once we finally see the show. I hope and pray they prove me wrong and the show is as well received as the books.

Its a depressing thought, but theres NO WAY George is going to live long enough to finish the books. Hes 63, obese and its taken 15 years to write 4 books, with another 3 or 4 to go.
