    Hello Mr Bulletpoints. Thanks for making this video. I am a senior with bad arthritis in my hands. I couldn't lift my
    lawnmover any more to get it out of my garage anymore so was using my Black and Decker weed trimmer to cut the grass in my very small backyard. Today, halfway the string broke and I tried for a very long time to open the cap so I could fix it, but could not open due to the arthritis. I was able to last year and was feeling very sad as I don't have anyone to help. I was thinking I would ask a passerby tomorrow to help me take of the cap. Now thanks to your video, once I get the spool out, I needn't put it back. I am very grateful to you for making this video. Best regards from Canada.

    For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. czcams.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself.Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

    This works I've been doing it for years. Three tips I can recommend is use the best string available and it last longer when you touch cement or rocks with it. And put the bottom cover back in place it helps bounce it off the ground instead of twisting itself up in the weeds your trying to cut. And I knot the inside and outside of the string to keep it place with a double knot inside. It really helps to use pliers to tie it with.

    You are genius! I did almost the same. On garage sale I bought lots of string for a dollar, but not my size (much bigger). I roll it on drum and use this way. You found more easy way! Tomorrow I will try. I use Black and Decker, a trimmer I fully disappointed. I have changed it every year because it was broken.

  • @sandysue202
    @sandysue202 Před 2 lety +2

    Hey...I am struggling with my Black and Decker feeding string like crazy. Started doing my own and even replaced the little gizmo that regulates the string being used because it gets worn and still its eating string! If my battery operated trimmer will work with this process, it's exactly what I am going to do from now on. Restringing is so tedious and yes, buying the spools was starting to break the bank! Awesome. And, to the critic who said you are littering your property with tiny pieces of plastic string, what in the world?? That's how string trimmers work and I am a 70 year old widow trying to maintain try yard. I had to give up the big heavy weed eater with the metal blade. I can't handle it anymore and I got tired of mixing gas and oil and then trying to start the old thing! I think a few tiny pieces of plastic string, on my own property, is ok with me.

  • @edgartoepel7473
    @edgartoepel7473 Před 5 lety +8

    Your idea works great. I replace the end cap just because I have it. And as you said, it works better and lasts longer than string on a spool. I think it is partly because it is so much more flexible when used as you describe. Thanks so much. p.s. I trim the length so that the cutter on the machine is not used. You could also remove the machine cutter and make the string somewhat longer.

    Thank you S00O much for this tip! I just bought a yard sale B&D groom n edge #1 ge600. Being a newbie (and Dear Lord, I'm such a GIRL!) I knew that it was missing the bump cap, but thought it was really important to running the tool. So I was gonna sneak online and buy a new cap, a new spring and a spool. It would've cost me as much or more than I bargained for. Your way looks so easy and cheap that I don't think my husband will even yell at me for being stupid and buying this thing! Also, most of the reviews mention that they hate that the stupid cap bogs down the line. Looks like I may be good to go with your tip here and only have to spring for some heavier line! (BTW, I'dve loved a video of how you cut and how much better this works than your zip line suggestions.) Thanks so much! Also, love the Tull intro.

      I knew somebody would say that! Just trying to keep it brief. Trust me it works.

    It worked for me but not really. Got about 4 minutes in and had to replace the string again. I used .09 up from .065 that came with the trimmer. Not a real time saver if I have to pre-cut a couple dozen of these and then replace them every five minutes. Also it fell out of the hole a couple of times. Back to respolling I guess.

    Can thin wire be used instead of string?? Just wondering

      I get that question a lot. Yes, but I wouldn't do it. Wire will rip up fences and legs if it hits them. I had one guy tell me he tried wire and pieces broke off and hit his safety glasses which he was very smart and lucky to be wearing. Thanks for the question.
