Thank you, brilliant idea. I watched videos of people using zip ties and sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn’t. I find it extremely frustrating that I have to stop working every ten minutes because of the string breaking and restringing from the spool is even worse. The plastic string on the spool is usually fused together and my guess that is caused by heat. When I try to untangle the string, it unwinds and I have to rewind it and so on. Again, very frustrating when this needs to be done every ten minutes or so.
Just like the other guy said,. I had this all original idea of coat hanger because you ain't gotta be no rocket dummy to figure out that cost hanger is stronger. I got heavy duty weeds at my place in the country. I actually already tried a used 12" chop saw blade. It's a lot of mass to be spinning that fast. Not the safest but safety usually comes in 3rd or 4th place on my list of real concerns. Sometimes 2nd place. The bearings supporting that load and the motor were of high concern. It overheated the bearings and shit started to come apart so I decided that was too much for weeds and grass. However, I replaced the bearings and while keeping the R's down, it cuts saplings like nobody's business. Again, not the safest but I'll bet my life savings that it's the fastest. Also works for high overhead pruning. Again, it's not safe and if she gets you just a tiny bit, then your putting it down and going to the hospital. Soooo, anyway, I knew with how brilliant an idea this one is that surely it's been thought of and tried I can gather notes, giving myself a little head start. But really we're all working together, sharing information acquired from each of our personal experiences, to slowly but surely advance the human race. All except the Amish. They're dead set and doing the opposite. Shit if they had it their way... Or, if we were all Amish.... We'd discover things to make life easier and then we'd throw it in the trash and make it illegal! Haha. Fuckin Amish
Arent you better buying a petrol strimmer and some decent line, oregon nylium, oregon duoline or stihl line. Blades then are an option if using on thicker stuff?
Good idea but that will take your toes off, i tried it with steel cable and cut a gaping hole in my shoe lol ! Thank god i didn't get hurt, good video, thanks 👍.
Learn how to weed eat properly and it will save you a ton of string. Even though big weeds like here in TX will make you run through some string if you aren’t equipped with the correct string for the job

this is probably safer than what I was going to try. I figured a 12 inch hacksaw blade would be perfect if I drill a hole right in the middle and attach to the shaft. any comments? has anyone tried this?
Edward Montini yes and no. It depends on the hanger I think and what you are whacking. Try to find a heavy gauge hanger (it's gonna be harder the thread into place though) and expect it to be bent up if you go after thicker brush than just weeds by the side of the house

Cool idea but listen to the sound of your motor they use string for a reason that thing is gonna heat up the bearings and also force the motor to work harder and if you hit your leg with it better have bandages
It wasn't easy. It's all one piece. It sticks out one side, bends around the core on the inside and sticks out the other side. Needle nose pliers will be really helpful
@SS-pi2yi I've got mine in there at 1 turn around the center. The core of mine is about the diameter of a can of coke. Depending on how your weed whacker comes apart, I found it easier to mold the center of the coat hanger instead of bending it as you're installing it.

i was going to do the same thing, great idea, and thanks for the example.
Hi I use small Ferrell's to anchor the wire.put the wire through the hole and tighten down.no problem..ps there called wire screw Fasteners
And then theres the rest of us chumps paying for trimmer line and wasting time, this is brilliant.
Great....until it chews through your vinyl skirting like hot butter...lol. That's why you need a softer line for those jobs.

Electric trimmers always start, have great torque, never need petrol & oil, and are so much quieter.

How did you secure the wire inside the housing?
The hanger was the right thickness that if you put a little kink in it while in the hub, it stays put and the centrifugal force doesn't eject it.

Don't use any tools to cut the weed and grass, buy a fat cow or goat if you can't afford, it will do the job every single day!
