#DollyParton #IWillAlwaysLoveYou #Country - Hudba
Listen to Dolly's original version when your heart is breaking, listen to Whitney's version when you're ready to move on. I don't know why, but you can feel the difference.
This makes TOTAL sense.
Man, you nailed it
Bootiful both ways
Completely agree❤️
this was well said
It’s okay to like Dolly’s original and Whitney’s cover, folks. Really, it is.
This comment ^^
Memories for young or old
Thanks man. I was biting my nails not wanting to choose.
I love both 🥰🥰
It’s okay as long as people remember that Dolly was the original 😋
The fact that she wrote this AND Jolene in less than 48 hours is insane.
Whats the real story. I've heard some say she wrote it on the same day...
I'm sorry to say I never knew that Dolly sang this originally. This is absolutely beautiful
Not only sang it...but she wrote it!!!❤ and yes it is a beautiful song
I'm just finding out myself!
Myself too. However it just goes to show the best example of humility I have come across in an artist. Dolly didn’t feel the requirement to publicly claim her work. She had no requirement to do so. The sign of an incredibly generous artist of immeasurable talent. Happy 50th birthday to “I will always love you!” Dolly Parton.
join the freakin club lol
Dolly WROTE and sang it.
She wrote one of the most beautiful songs in the world.
That's cool. You're very smart. God bless you, Faith L...!! How are you doing today I hope you enjoyed the sweet melody of Dolly's song Right 👍? Coz I'm a big fan of Dolly Parton.💞😇👀
only when you hear Whitneys version.
@@marymarly1768
Whitney's version is garbage next to this.
@@bradhuskers What? Sorry...Dolly is amazing. An angel on earth...but if you can't appreciate Whitney's rendition than you're a broken person. Even Dolly said she first heard it in her car and had to pull over she was so emotional over how beautiful Whitney sung her song.
@proverbialmind_spread9421
No.
You are broken dear.
And the people who disrespect dolly, are broken as well.
She wrote this and 'Jolene' on the same day...

Dolly sings this so tenderly
I grew up with Whitney’s version without knowing Dolly’s. Both versions have a place. Thank you both for giving us these songs
You know that whitney OD'ed don't you? RIP
Dolly wrote so many great songs - that she RARELY even gets credit for! A lot of people were amazed that she wrote the song that Whitney made so much of (on). I loved Whitney's cover, but I'm an "old" hick and knew "up front" that it was just a cover. GRANTED it was a SUPER cover, but nonetheless... ;-)
@@scottp.2995 Well, Dolly actually made way more than Whitney, because of royalties since it’s her song. But both are beautiful.
But one is the original and the other a cover, if it were the other way it would be called stolen or appropriated
@@glipgloop2121 yes!! she earned over $20m from whitney's cover alone

Dolly is the greatest songwriter EVER. Change my mind.
@@mikejames2712 Stevie Wonder
@@kaniajones4029 Not even close...IMHO
@@mikejames2712 With all due respect, Dolly has over 50 albums and none of them went #1. She has just 2 #1 songs. One is a duet.
We are talking overall music consumption. Not just a specific genre.
Stevland Morris wrote his first #1 song at age 13. A record still unbroken. He now has 10 #1 songs. Nine are solo. He has 3 Album of The Year Grammys and 3 #1 albums. He is widely known as a musical genius and is known as a PIONEER of music. He, in my opinion and backed by facts, is ahead of Dolly Parton and truly one of the greatest song writers ever.
@@mikejames2712 you missed where I said OVERALL music charts. I know she had 25 top country hits. Which is amazing by the way. But her country hits weren’t bigger than the other genres out at that time. When Stevie topped the r&b charts, he topped the pop charts too. Both great writers but she aint messin’ with Stevie and many others. Good day
Love this song. To me, Whitney's version is like eating out at a fancy restaurant and having a great meal. This version is grandmas home cooked meal with the family on a Sunday after being away for a very long time, love it.
I love the comparison!

While the Whitney version is much more acrobatic and intense, this version is much more emotional and heartfelt in it's delivery. It comes off feeling more beautiful and touching.
Philthy well Dolly Parton is the original maker of the song it should be and stay a country song
Philthy Whitney’s version is more my generation. But I love this original too
I will never understand the popularity of the Houston cover; irritating vocal gymnastics and zero soul.
this is the original singer is dolly
Are you crazy, Dolly Parton said herself that Whitneys version is way better. Dolly Parton can't hold a candle to Whitney. @@BDevine64

Of course it ripped mine as well and I hope you’re having a good day today, we could meet and enjoy the song together
With Whitney's version I think, "wow, listen to those vocals!"
With Dolly's version, I want to weep.
When I was younger, I first heard, and only listened to Whitney's version. As an adult, I see Dolly's as the ultimate version because the story is front and centre, yet I would have never given it a chance without having heard Whitney's first. So there is a place for appreciating both these talented women.
This makes no sense dead both good songs Whitney did not diminish what this songs stance for unlike all the other artist out there today that use old songs in sing them today, Does not know as long as she stayed true to what the song meant
@Hilary that was exactly what I was thinking!
I like that both versions tell the story of the song differently. And both are valid! But since Dolly wrote it herself, she knows the heart and soul of the song. But that doesn't discount Whitney's amazing technical vocal feat.
It's a giving both woman are remarkable but dolly made the song ment it and felt it! It's dolly's song and may she rest easy just thank her for the music and dont put a compareason onto her music

Yes I just watched Priscilla.
I think the last scene was so touching and deep despite it being a small and short scene. There's no way to be a woman and not feel empathy for her, you wonder how much she endured and how brave she had to be to take her leave, see her driving that car... just freedom.
How the hell I only knew this now? Thanks Priscilla film for making me discover this gem.
When I was 10 years old I lost my grandmother who was like a mother AND a father to me. She was my whole world. After her death I would lay on a mattress at night staring up at a single bulb in a tiny trailer with my cassette tape and headphones. Alone, heart broken and grieving I would listen to this song, rewind, and listen again. It was a deep sorrowful pain I wish upon no one. She gave me this tape before she died. She was the love of my life and this song was her good bye. To this day I can’t listen to it without feeling her and tearing up. 27 years later I still miss her deeply. She was an amazing lady.
Hope you are doing well now. Sorry I just don’t know what to say

Unlike Whitney, Dolly keeps the song warm and personal even in the high notes. Her voice is almost pleading where Whitney is screaming. Kind of a soft consensual breakup vs. toss all your belongings out the door situation.
It's sung with two different meanings. This one feels like a heart break. Like two ppl walking away.
Whitney's is more of a gtfo but I'll always love you

Oh my god i cant believe at 36 years old im just finding put that this is the original version. Dolly's version brought me to tears, something Whitney's version has never done. This was absolutely beautiful.
Same but Im 44 years 😅
In Dolly's words about this song:
"The song came straight from the bottom of my heart. All of those feelings, all of those thoughts, all of those things we had been through, all the things we had been to each other, all of the things we had done to each other, all of that was in one song. I was so emotional I was crying when I was writing it.
I went into his office and said, "Porter (Wagoner), sit down. I want to sing you a song I wrote." When I started to sing the song, he started to cry. He knew that I had been crying when I wrote it. He got it. He said, "That's the best song you ever wrote. And you can go, if I can produce that song." I said, "It's a deal!"
Now the song is going to live forever. I thank Porter for that song. I think of him every time I sing it. If it hadn't been for him, I'd never have written that song."
Dolly should be a national treasure to your country. She is so totally selfless, compassionate, child-like, kind and cute. That's not even taking into account how quick-wittedly funny she is, how stunningly beautiful she was in her younger years and how naturally talented she is as a singer and songwriter. A true artist and musician to be remembered for centuries.

She is very clever with the lyrics and thoughtful not to hurt Porter Wagoner by saying she was in his way and he didn’t need her, when in fact she was the real star!

This original version breaks my heart, you can tell that is a broken heart singing right there! while Whitney version is an impressive powerful voice....gives another message! lovee both version but for me Dolly version is the one!
Whitney version is powerful. Lease u can do is give her credit

"priscilla" brought me here as i got emotional when that song played as i know the significance of that song as it relates to elvis. i will always prefer this version than whitney's though whitney's version is great.
Now, while Whitney’s vocals were unmatched, Dolly’s version will always be my favorite. Her tone makes the lyrics more believable.
Her song is simple but meaningful in tune.
So true. Whitney had too much strength for the song.
And that’s a flaw ? Lmao
All this time I thought Whitney wrote this song 🤦🏽♀️😂
It’s heartfelt
Here we go again, debating which version of a song is better. Both Dolly and Whitney gave us impassioned and beautiful recordings. Can't we just let it go at that?
One is full of emotion, one is just bellowing. Can't we just let it go at that ?
Thank you... I don't understand why people want to fight about that... Choose the one you love, and love the other one too...
why not let people say their opinions?
I like them both, but for different reasons. Whitney gives a really powerful performance, but I hear more emotion in the Dolly recording.
Graham Turner it’s not bellowing, it’s soulful- singing has variations in many different parts of the world and evokes emotions in many different ways. You’re just ignorant to music. Probably racism plays a part in why you’ve said that. No one disputes how amazing Whitney did.
Both Dolly and Whitney their versions are wonderful.
Dolly’s version sounds like shes singing to someone personally. Like shes sitting on her porch together with that special someone with a guitar on a warm summer night softly singing it.
Awww! I love what you said!
Dolly actually wrote the song as a way of saying goodbye to her business partner, Porter Wagoner. She wanted to branch out into a solo career and he was very hesitant
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Will_Always_Love_You
Dolly did, she sang it to her boss when she was quitting. She wrote it for Porter Wagoner.

This is the BEST version of this song, for the same reason the original version of a song usually is, because it's the most genuine and heartfelt, two things that remakes, no matter how great they are, never quite have.

both versions are very good, I prefer Dolly's. I feel the raw emotion of the song comes out more in her version.
My favorite thing about this song though is the story Dolly tells about how when she first heard Whitney's version she didn't realize what the song was at first, just that it sounded familiar, and when it got to the chorus it surprised her so much she nearly had a car accident xD
Well, there's more emotion in this one, since it was honest song. Dolly write if for Porter Wagoner wneh she was about to leave their band and go solo.

What an emotional song, very kind and heartfelt.
I am not a huge country fan but this and Jolene are my favorite Dolly Parton songs. Also check out some of the Johnny Paycheck's tunes like "It wont be long I'll be hating you" or I got someone to kill" the dude told it like it is in his singing song writing.😝 I said it before and I will say it again that the 1950s-1970s produced the greatest collection of songs in world history from all genres. As a tyke in the late 50s and kid in the 60s and teen in the 70s I consider myself lucky to be a part of witnessing this great music all unfold.
Whitney’s was radio and perfect. Dolly’s is a drive out of the city after a break up. I don’t want attention or anyone, just want to be alone. End up in some small bar with an unknown but talented singer who sings the perfect song to go with my whiskey and heartache.
I did not know that the Whitney Houston version was a cover, thank you for making me aware of this Mr. Lynch!
I was today years old when I found out this is Dolly Parton’s song
Always better with dolly singing it love her down home voice
this version truly emphasizing the feeling of the song
I've alway looked at this version as a completely different song to Whitneys version. Dolly had such a sense of closure in her voice and delivery. Whitney had the stand out vocals that would make this song a radio hit. Dolly saw the end of a failed relationship and realized that NO MATTER what happened, she would always love Porter. Loving someone and being with them are two different things. Dolly's delivery of this song made me realize that you can love someone from a far and still be happy loving someone else. It's hard to know where you're going if you don't know where you've been.
Happy 50th anniversary to the song's debut ❤❤❤ Such a beautiful and bittersweet song
Whitney’s cover is very powerful, but it can’t move me like Dolly’s. This one gives me goosebumps every time and often makes me cry. The raw emotion just hits so differently.
Dolly sings with a beautiful tenderness that makes me both smile and cry at the same time
Because it was sang to a white country boy with rhinestones on his shirt❤
Quite possibly the greatest love song ever written. Perfect.
Born as Dolly Rebecca Parton, she was born on January 19th, 1946 in Pitman Center, TN, USA, with over 100,000,000 worldwide record sales!!
She had 100,000,000 worldwide records sales right when she was born? Impressive indeed.
This is Dolly Parton's song and definitely she is the one that performes it the best.
I loved this song ever since the first time she sung it.
Lmao it’s giving racist
Have to disagree. Whitney's version was a million times better than Dolly's
@@celmart0413most definitely disagree. Whitney hurts my head and ears, Dolly is a million times better.
@@usawhiteghost disagree Dolly sucks and can't sing
When you've only heard the Bodyguard version its genuinely startling to discover how beautiful this is.
