    I started a thread about the clamshell mode on the Apple discussion forum and people said that the algorithm will learn to not allow charging past 80% but it didn't. I installed this app and it's working flawlessly. You sir are a genius. Thank you.

      a simple way is to do this instead: Well theres a way though, go to terminal, type in this command "sudo pmset disablesleep 1" this disable sleep mode entirely, but if you want to enable sleep mode back again, then use "sudo pmset disablesleep 1"

    Another solution: Use Al Dente to restrict your battery going higher than X% to keep the battery long lasting and keep the mac powered on while using it with a monitor. Cheers!

    One might ask why would someone unplug the adapter when they use such mode for external display. Despite the dispute on the battery damage brought by potential "overcharge", I would say sometimes I just need a quick charge (probably no more than 1 hour) for my low-battery keyboard or trackpad, with a frequency of once a month at most. Hence I really don't want to bring another cable and adapter to my office just for such an occasional need. Also don't expect to use the ports on MacBook for this, as you have already got at least two ports occupied (one for the monitor and one for the power, let alone some people even use additional external displays or use it to charge the phone/iPad).

    Fantastic. One less cable. I would also like to get rid of the monitor cable and use wireless connection to an external monitor if possible. However, I was told the only way to do that is to leave the MacBook lid open. This is untidy. Any way to go round that?

    It works to occasionally use the battery of your macbook and do not have it always connected to electricity, as the battery can be damaged in the long term if we do not give a few charge cycles.

    one big question... If you close the lid, would the MacBook display turn off or it will keep on? I'm worried that the display might get overheat while the lid is closed if it's turned on

    • @mahee96
      @mahee96 Před 9 měsíci

      Remember, this is basically just clamshell mode without AC power, so all things that apply to clamshell should apply here, ie display being off and speakers next to keyboard on top shouldn’t sound.
      one way to test this is to slowly close the lid and see when the lights go off, coz by design there is a hall/magnetic sensor which detects that lid is touching palmrest and hence powers off the display.
      if you are concerned about damage to display due to heating when lid is closed, the same thing applies to clamshell with AC power so nothing different here.
      This is like default in windows which people don’t even consider it a feature. Only disadvantage is if you forget to turn off, close lid and put the laptop into a bag it will get heated quickly as there is no ventilation. But this is like a rare scenario though.

    i wouldn't recommended this as you'll wear out your battery faster. I use AlDente and keep my mac book plugged in with my dock that has all my ports available. I got everything wired in including my LAN connection. Its all about cable managing. The only way i would find this useful is if i take my MB to a relatives house and want to stream a show of some sort on their TV.
