Yeah those two really make any sport interesting and fun to watch.
I tell you, Eric Moussambani has guts. Imagine being alone at the pool in that huge stadium, never having been in one that big, and barely able to swim. He was the Champion of the Olympics for me.
The Aussie crowd went absolutely berserk for Eric Moussambani. We love an underdog down here. It's worth listening to the race without Roy and HG just to hear how supportive the crowd was.
Absolutely, it was such a heartwarming moment. Man, 2000 was such a great Olympic games!
eric the eel, he'd never swam in an olympic size swimming pool before the games, won his heat because the other two guys jump the start and were disqualified eric swam by himself and beat the equatorial guinea record (his pb) by about half a second and the crowd cheered like mad even though he took double the amount of time of the olympic record and it was the slowest time ever in an olympic heat.
Didn’t the Australian team buy him a uniform as well?
I think the Aussies took Eric surfing.
speedo gave him a racing suit, he partied with the australian swimmers and they took him surfing. he was also given shoes etc. equatorial guinea built two olimpic size pools and eric the eel was their national swim coach and he shaved over a minute off his olympic time.
Remember the next time he came out they'd outfitted him in the Ian Thorpe sharkskin suit? Hilarious!!

as the winner of his heat, he automatically went to the next heat, and one gave him one of his old fast suits to do the next heat in
We were in the crowd and everybody went just mental cheering our hearts out
The best part is their complete trust in one another - the relationship! One came up with an adlib term and the other went along with it automatically like it was rehearsed! Amazing!! I don't remember them covering the diving, but I do remember the normally tedious synchronised swimming - epic/hilarious! 😄
Roy and HG did the synchronised swimming commentary as well, it was epic!
Their Cricket Test commentary was legendary.. 4-5 DAYS of pure genius..
I wish Roy and HG would do. Recap of every Olympics since at least the 60s 😂😂😂😂 … I think it was almost Eric the Rock
Not sure if anyone mentioned elsewhere, but you have to see the divebombing event they held for all the Australian mascots, Syd, Olly, dickhead, the boxing Kangaroo and Fatso the Wombat. They also did Weightlifting, Synchronised Swimming and some of the other Gymnastics
Not sure if you've seen it , but Roy and HGs winter Olympic is an absolute classic, Australia's first ever gold medal in the speed skating is absolutely hilarious, for more reasons than you might think ........

PS I first stared listening to Roy & HG radio program, This Sporting Life (on 2JJJ) in 1986, so really enjoy watching your enjoyment. This is cross/intergenerational enjoyment 🎶✊

Spent some Weekends listening to Roy & HG called the Footy games, turn sound off on TV, turn up ABC Radio, & I hate Football ...

I've got a few Rugby League games synced with Roy and HG commentary. One day I'll get around to upload them. Also, try to find Roy and HG Olympic weightlifting at the 2000 games.
Watching Origin with the TV volume down and listening to Roy and HG commentate on JJJ was EPIC!
See if you can get a hold of Princess Anne presenting the four's rowing medals! that'll bring a tear.

No, I was living in Sydney at the time of the 2000 Olympics and I clearly remember Eric the Eel's heat. The national record - about a full minute outside the world record - was real.
The image of him chopping up and down almost on the spot and the momentary fear that he might actually start to sink is etched on my memory.
And the presenter here is right: he did acquire the nickname Eric the Eel. No, he isn't getting it mixed up with Eddie the Eagle, although I daresay that provided part of the inspiration for the title.
I think you are thinking of Eddie the Eagle a Ski jumper in the winter Olympics . Im not sure but I think he represented England
Just bought The Dream on dvd from ebay. It’s as funny now as it was then. I loved the fact that they could take the piss without any bullshit WOKE nonsense. They were the days👌
