    I don’t believe he really blamed Maverick for his dads death, I think he just said that to hurt Mav for pulling his papers and keeping him from getting into the Academy.

      I agree. I have a feeling that Rooster knew that his dad's passing was a freak accident and didn't believe Mav was responsible at all. Moreso, in addition to his career being delayed, he was stressed about Phoenix and Bob's close call, and saw an opportunity to take his stress out on his second dad.

      wasnt it technically icemans fault for killing goose from his jetwash?

      He 100% didn’t actually blame Mav cause he got pissed when Hangman insinuated that it was Mav’s fault days prior to this scene. He’s angry and hurting in this scene and using whatever words he knows will hurt Mav most to lash out at him.

      @@MrThereyes2 You say that as if Maverick didn't care! He cared too much and was distraught after Gooses death. He didn't want to see his son die as a result! So that line was the ultimate low blow.

      @lee2thea863 What difference does that make? Sure, Maverick could have handled the situation better, but keeping a secret from Rooster just makes it worse, so why is he surprised that Rooster doesn't want to talk to him, that's why Rooster choose to fly a fighter jet instead of being a backseater because he doesn't want to end up like his Dad, that is why he says he's not gonna make the same mistake like his dad Goose, Rooster has suffered more just like Maverick.

    The actors did a great job portraying their characters here. Miles Teller did a fabulous job showing how mad Rooster is at Mav and Tom Cruise fantasically portrayed the guiltnhes felt for decades. Also, as it would turn out, Rooster would be riddled with grief because he thought he'd watched his second dad die in front of him.

    Everyone seems to forget that Rooster has suffered more just as Maverick did, he lost his Dad folks so his anger is understandable plus getting his paper pulled just because of what happened to Goose and keeping Carole's wish isn't right, i get it Maverick and Carole wants to protect him but it made it worse, if Rooster wants to honor his father legacy then there nothing wrong with that, that's why he choose to be a pilot so he won't repeat the same mistake of what happened to his father Goose

    ***Uncle Maverick***
    Pete really did look after Rooster. Even jr. was just ticked he kept him behind. Had he told him he did it out of respect for his mom & pops. Mav just did what he thought in his heart was the right thing to do. Even with Rooster hating him for doing so.

    I thought this was sort of a hard to believe issue to have between them both, because Goose died due to an accident. It was Ice who put Maverick in that dangerous situation. What killed Goose was an even crazier accident. I know they probably did this for the drama, but it felt to me like they were reaching on this one.

    • @wardapologist
      @wardapologist Před 8 měsíci +17

      It was less about his father's death and more about Maverick stopping him from graduating the academy and essentially put him behind a few years. Goose was the only way Rooster knew how to dig the knife in and twist hard. He never blamed Maverick, he just was hurt that Maverick thought he might not be good enough to graduate/fly like Goose. Failure is one thing, but thinking you've disappointed someone you thought of as a second father to you is worse. It's also the fact that Maverick never told him why - we know why, but Rooster just thinks Maverick doesn't think much of him (at this point of the movie).

      The way I saw it, Rooster wasn't really mad at Maverick over his dad's death. He says that about Goose because just like when he brings up Maverick has no family the comment is all about hurting Maverick. He's angry Maverick held him back, and since he can't physically attack him and he couldn't take him down in a 1v1 during training, the only way he can lash out at Maverick is to kick him in the emotional balls.

    • @MrThereyes2
      @MrThereyes2 Před 10 měsíci +4

      Actually, Maverick is the one who should apologize to Rooster, Rooster also suffered as much as Maverick, he lost his Dad, then his career is somewhat terminated, it's sadder that he didn't tell him the truth

    • @CptPhilippnes
      @CptPhilippnes Před 10 měsíci +8

      @@MrThereyes2 If I remember correctly, Mav didn't want to admit to Rooster that he was trying to keep a promise to Rooster's mom. If he admitted that it was his mother's dying wish to not have Rooster join the Navy as a pilot, Rooster would end up hating his mother, his last real family.

    • @MrThereyes2
      @MrThereyes2 Před 10 měsíci +4

      @CptPhilippnes Rooster will only hate his mother's wishes, not her. She clearly did it out of fear. At some point, people gotta believe them regardless of the risk, and if Rooster wants to honor his father Goose, then there's nothing wrong with that, Maverick should at least teach him like what Iceman tells him to do, regardless it's not right for both of them to decide Rooster's life since it's his life

    • @CptPhilippnes
      @CptPhilippnes Před 10 měsíci

      @@MrThereyes2 Yeah he should hate her wishes. But often times, that transfers to the person, even unintentionally. It's irrational, that's true, but sometimes it just turns out that way.

      @MrThereyes2 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @CptPhilippnes I wish the movie would have done better with these two. To be honest, I get it it's traumatic of what happened to Goose, I just wish Maverick would stop making Rooster angry and just tell him the truth and find a way to reconnect with Rooster instead of just telling just move on which doesn't work because he's gonna end up pissing off Rooster more
