I landed there 330 times. 30 on this 2700 mts runway (A310) and 300 on the old one. That was fun. 1540 mts! No problem. I was flying the best airliner for short runways and strong winds, the B727!

I’ve a friend who is retired after being the senior training pilot with TUI he said Pilots love landing at places like Madeira because “ they have to fly”

It all goes back to basic training. As a commercial pilot flight examiner it is possible to pick out the ones with good technique from those who thump it onto the ground. Fortunately modern aircraft are built to withstand the punishment handed out to them by the less skilful.
