  • Join Dr. Ibreez as she spends a day at Derriford Hospital as working as one of the medical registrars on call!
    International medical graduates (IMGs) are often reluctant to take a specialty route that has them be a medical registrar, but is it really as bad as everyone says? See what a day shift looks like to know if you'd be interested in pursuing a role like this!

    • @RoadToUK
      @RoadToUK  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks! For non training jobs, it's not a big deal. For training, depending on how competitive it is, you should look at the scoring for the portfolio to determine where you can maximize your points.

    A bit off topic but I would like to ask you if you find the culture within the NHS is more compassionate and the people in its employ focus more on the patients anxiety around being in need of medical care ? I’ve lived under private and public healthcare and always got the impression that in the NHS the focus was first on the patient but in private I felt it was always a ‘time is money’ attitude which left me feeling a bit anxious. I have epilepsy and I’m from the UK so from pretty much birth I’ve been in care as an outpatient but I always felt they were trying to make life better for me as a person. When I was in Holland where they have a private or semi-private system they were focussed solely on the medical side with time focussed entirely on the issue and felt like I was in McDonalds. I have as much love for the NHS as I do anything in my life and to me it’s a perfect example of compassion. I’m immensely grateful to everyone that work/ there from cleaners to consultants and everything in between. Thank you for the true ‘service’ the National Health Services ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧🇺🇸

      Oh definitely! There is more of an element of providing the right care with a balanced approach. The patient isn't a cash machine, rather they are someone to treat.

    is it true that many hospitals in the uk don't have good facillities for doctors to rest and take a break especially during night shift where a doctor should have a on call room??

    • @RoadToUK

      You are allowed breaks. What you do during those breaks is up to you. Just ensure there is nothing pressing that must be done and then inform your team/ward that you'll be taking your break. You will likely have a pager number you can also leave them if they need you for any reason.
