- No, thermal turbines DO spin thousands of times per minute. Wind turbines don't, but I wasn't talking about wind turbines in that sentence!
- I might have butchered the toaster explanation again but honestly at this point just go look at Alec's video, it's better
Its hit youtuber tom scott

It's always a good idea to look at Alec's videos, tbh.

No one seems more harsh on you than you. Please give yourself a break. Your videos are great and I'm going to miss them when you stop.
you really need to stop being so harsh on yourself. you're doing your best and your best has entertained millions
Don't know if you'll see this Tom, but it's Max from the British Library here. Your video about us resulted an absolute tidal wave of new submissions to our web archive, SMASHING previous records. The good you did for the UK's web archiving vastly outweighs a tiny mistake, which was my fault too for not picking up on it when we filmed! Best of luck with whatever you're up to 🙌
that is great news!!
This is such a lovely message! I hope that the rate of new submissions continues to increase

such a sweet message, that's good, I hope it's still going well.
Actually, I am from only a stones throw away from the British Library.
That's amazing!
The fact this video is only 12 minutes long means you've made a hell of a lot less mistakes than me.

When Tom can fit every mistake he made over 10 years in a short 12-minute video, you know he's an extremely powerful entity.
Most youtube videos would requre a video 3 times longer to just list all the mistakes in them
Especially considering he spends time explaining the mistakes and correcting them as well.
More powerful than Shaggy?
the mistake that are "significant enough" and that are recognized enough for Tom to know it by now
Except the mistakes he missed
Tom's humility is an example for us all. What a brilliant human being
He honestly is a paragon of excellence and I wish him nothing but success in his future.
This man has only made 12 minutes worth of mistakes across almost 10 years. Incredible
Right? I could do a 12 minute video of this week... 😂

I’ve spent nearly 9 years since the toaster video was made thinking about the bimetallic strips in my toaster doing their thing each time it pops. Gutted.

At least you now get the joy of watching the technology connections video on toasters!

I love that you still put a CZcams ad right when he says “time for a break” like you did in the original video. That got a good laugh out of me.
I dont think he chooses where the ads go, I think it's just pure coincidence.
@@missdonutaltaccount1380 No they do can have the choice where to insert an ad. In the original video he did exactly the same

He did the same thing in the original video as well.
I personally exclaimed "you bastard, not again"
Nice try, tom, I'm still not disabling adblock.
Adblock on chrome or CZcams Vanced, ever heard of it? Unless you are on a CrApple.
I was watching while eating lunch, and part of my tuna sandwich ended up flying from mouth to screen at that moment. Perfect timing.
I love the attention to detail in these videos - placing the ad break immediately after the "time for a break" quote is just brilliant.
That was absolutely perfect 🤣
He did it in the original as well, if I recall correctly. Yet I still didn't see it coming. Hilarious.
I laughed out loud when that happened. Good stuff.
There's an ad?
Oh, so that wasn't just me. I was a bit taken aback by the coincidence. Then I cursed, naturally.
This video was filmed in Warsaw near the Poniatowski bridge, meaning either this was filmed when tom was filming the clams video, or this is where the next video will take place
You called it
Are you from there? Or are you just adept at Geoguessr?
Or maybe Tom simply moved to Warsaw?
Poniatowski Bridge is very recognizable if you've been in Warsaw for at least several days, it's a major transport artery of the polish capital. But also - came here to say just that, as a pole who studied in Warsaw :)
POLSKA GUROM !!1!
Tom, you're nothing short of an international treasure. Your integrity, professionalism, and honesty vastly outweighs the comically small list of errors included in your series.
The Internet will be a dumber place without your regular scheduled videos, but you have more than earned the right to rest.
Tom is one of the most honest, down-to-earth CZcamsrs out there man. Not everyone puts in the effort to correct their mistakes in research and set the record straight. Thanks, Tom!
Exactly! Off the top of my head, I can think of Technology Connections' dishwasher video and Overly Sarcastic Productions' bad history playlist, but not many more
Only because he knows what gets the most views. Don't be fooled.......Well, you already have .
I met him in Phantasialand in september of this year. My friend and I had seen him walking by and we weren't sure it was him, but when we exited a rollercoaster we saw him eating something. We mustered up the courage and said hi and thank you for all his videos. He gave me an elbow since his hands were dirty from eating a taco or something. We clearly startled him a bit (kinda felt bad for it afterwards) but he remained really nice and friendly, such a great human being
@@Coolcarting You know that until then, he had a /errors page and painstakingly annotated corrections to his past videos?
While he recommends a Vpn that handles all your data and claims privacy! Like how does he know that they are safe. Just so you know they give away that data when the government knocks . Responsible 0%
There actually is a mistake in this video: at 8:31 the on-screen graphics attribute the error to the previous video rather than to "Britain once forgot how long an inch is". Especially ironically, this is immediately after you say that errors in on-screen graphics don't count, during the clip which has an error in its onscreen graphics.
I would like to imagine that this was an artistic choice, but I can see this being a genuine error
@@Not_Tails definitely feels like a genuine error since he doesn't actually mention the video in specific in the script specifically so it would've been harder to catch
Also at 1:59 he says "variable resistors charged by capacitors". You can't charge a resistor! He meant capacitors charged through variable resistors.
And so he was correct 😂 And also apologised for it in advance..
Gotta love this man
and a lot of toasters sold today still use bimetallic strips
Tom, I’m a teenager in India, and your videos have played an immense role in my childhood. They helped cultivate an interest in science and learning in me at a young age, and even recently series like Tom’s Language Files have been extremely beneficial. Geelong is pronounced juh-long, as Australians love to reduce the amount of effort used to articulate their sentences as much as physically possible for some reason. I just wanna say thank you for being so honest and having so much transparency
I think it is because he is a scienc-esque guy. But yes, its rare to watch a journalist who is just facts an no conscious bias, and im also very happy about that
Most journalists are great! Just not many of them that are on American cable-“news” programs, which are mostly editorial.
Fox News did this and the end video was 60000000 years long.
Every newspaper and journal has a corrections section. Maybe you should check on that before you spout nonsense. Nobody is free of mistakes. And getting into monopolisation of media & news is an entire different and lengthy topic. If you said Tiktok it'd been closer to something that makes sense.
@@kleinerprinz99 Yes, hidden in some back section you have to go looking for, while the original completely false story remains on the front page.

It is incredible Tom's ongoing maintenance of integrity. He even has his fact checkers looking for mistakes during this very video at @9:02.
I love the way Tom serves the internet by doing what it was created for, exchanging information. Tom has always collected as much information (and fact checked it)as he could just for us to devour in a weekly video. And to come clean after ten years to correct yourself with a final factcheck just shows how seriously he takes this. Tom , thankyou for 10 years of entertainment!!!

And thanks for sharing your time with us all these years.
Awesome video, but just as awesome were the people digging up muck behind Tom. I loved their dialogue (in my head) about "great muck over here" and "a watery tart lobbing swords about is no basis for a system of government!"
If every notable mistake you made in 10 years fits in 12 minutes of video including the original footage, that’s a hell of a track record. It might be closure for you, but it’s a very entertaining recap of Tom Scott for the rest of us.
Congrats Tom. It isn't easy to carry on a show for 10 years, let alone critiquing every piece of work you make. Awesome commitment for going over your mistakes and correcting them!

Worth noting that the Gandhi thing does exist, just not as a bug but an intended feature in Civ 5 in 2010.
The claim of a bug in the original game started around 2 years later in 2012 when it appeared on fact sites and TV Tropes.
It wasn't till 2020 that the game's creator, Sid Meir, said it wasn't even possible for the bug to occur due to how aggression was programmed.
That’s wild. Why was it an intended feature then?
@@DeathnoteBB It was put in as a reference to the story about the "bug", because it was so popular
@@Will-fl3hj, except the story about the bug being in the earlier games didn't seem to exist (let alone be popular) until after the fifth game.
I now need to wonder if this might still be true.. consider the original CIV 1 was on so many system and I bet at least one had that cook up.
we just copy paste translate the code and fix what the complile yells at (I knew games whoes porting quality was that bad).
@@Zack_Wester , according to the ones that wrote the programming for the game, the code wasn't even set up in such a way that the bug could have existed. The explanation for how the bug worked came from a random person on the internet and didn't even accurately represent how the game was coded. So it only could have existed in a complete knock off and not in any version of the actual game.
Honestly, I have immense respect for the creators who go back and are willing to admit their mistakes and do good by correcting them. There are those who willingly spread false statements by refusing to admit when they're wrong or knowingly make false statements and they simply can't be trusted. When someone is willing to say "I was wrong and here's the correction," I know that they can be trusted... At least as far as one can trust a personality on CZcams. Thank you for this, Tom.

5:45 Mistake in the correction, too. *Turbines do not spin thousands of times per minute.* That, too, would be incredibly fast. The correct time frame to reach thousands is a full hour.
I also puzzled over this statement. 😅
The turbines in a thermal power plant (like coal) for spin thousands of times per minute. A wind turbine does not, but he was talking about thermal ones.
Also the blades aren't made of steel heh
I think Tom intentially left it here as a home exercise!
In a steam or gas turbine driven alternator in a modern power station the rotor runs at precisely 3000 rpm in a grid providing 50 Hz power, or 3600 rpm in 60 Hz systems. The rotational speed is derived from the number of poles in the alternator and the power frequency. So yes, it does rotate a thousands of revolutions per minute.
Just a reminder: never ever feel bad for making a mistake. I know we all learn this in school, but it's a human thing, just be honest about it. Without any mistakes, you won't learn as much.
Jein. Be honest about it for sure. But for some mistakes one should feel bad.
We used to learn that in school but these days they seem to reward failure with praise in schools, so I'm not so sure.
Yes but to express the mistakes you made and the associated feelings is a healthy way to self reflect
@@Thurgosh_OG hang around schools a lot still, do you?

Really appreciate you doing this kind of thing given the vast amount of misinformation (and even disinformation) online. This is one of the many reasons you have built up such a large following who respect what you do.
Plus, if you can summarise all of your mistakes across 10 years in just 12 minutes, you're not doing badly at all!
Immediately I noticed Poniatowski bridge in the background due to living here in Warsaw. I hope that I'm correct and the last shot of Warsaw Spire is a teaser to a video that you're working on! If so I love that you sneakly included that, it's an awesome touch!

In seriousness: Great work, Tom, I don't think *anyone* else on the platform would put quite this much effort into correcting themselves.
Putting the CZcams ads at 8:43 actually made me laugh.
I appreciated the YT adbreak you planned at 8.40 and had a good laugh while watching it instead of skipping! Thank you for your 10 years of putting puns in your videos. I loved every one of them!
Congratulations for the courage and hard work that it takes to find, check and admit your own mistakes.
The simple fact of admitting mistakes makes me trust you more.
Much respect.
I love the irony of pronouncing Geelong wrong in a video about mistakes
(Juh-LONG vs JEE-long)
G-Town also works 😆
I'd disagree slightly. Correctly pronounced it's Jee-LONG. Still a "long e", but the stress placed on the second syllable. Of course, in common speech the 'e' is eventually abbreviated to non-existence, hence 'j-LONG', or 'juh-LONG' if you then slow it back down.
that’s why toms the best, he does his research and when he’s wrong he admits it
This is a fantastic video. Kudos to you for accepting mistakes and pointing them out. Not enough people would ever consider this.
Honestly the only thing I can find to say is the massive respect I've got for your work ethic and seeing how you obviously value accuracy and truth in your videos, I never had any doubt that if any of your videos had any mistakes, they were never by any means intentional. I'd also agree with others that a 12 minutes video to cover the mistakes made in almost 10 years is just so little, it's proof in itself of how good your research and videos are!
Don’t worry Tom. Lots of things in the world went horribly wrong in 2016
I know right?? People forget 2016, it was a hell of a year

I have played Civilization 1 when it originally came out. When playing the version which came on floppy disks and had "copy protection" that required you to answer questions from the manual to keep playing; Gandhi would threaten you with nuclear weapons. When playing later versions of the same game, such as from the Sid Meier's collection on CD, he didn't. Rather than a collective, international false memory; I think we are talking about a simple post-release bug fix.
I seem to recall it being a thing too and I used to play on Macs (at least I think it was Macs) from some pirated copy probably.
People Make Games have a video about Nuclear Gandhi. Worth checking out.

Really appreciate you Scott! Gonna miss your videos!
I love your videos, I love your presence online! thank you :)
Can't wait until Tom discovers he used the wrong video details at the top left at 8:30
Tom, you have been more integral and honest than even some of the role models I have had growing up. Integrity like yours is increasingly valuable in this world. Your fan base appreciates you!
You make great videos, Tom. I've enjoyed watching them over the years.
Love your work Tom. With a video like this, I really feel that we should forgive you for these mistakes. I look forward to your next one in another 10 years time 😄
Not long until the end. Well deserved break, but will be missed in our feeds 😢
A man like this, who spreads colossal amounts of knowledge but still has the ability to admit when he is wrong and keep learning deserves absolute respect and should serve as an example to all future generations.

> "and the host says 'time for a break'"

this is the one time iv noticed genius advert placement being done
Love the fact that Tom kept his mistakes to a minimum all this time, and the NordVPN ad shorter than other CZcamsrs.
Great video, Tom! And, yes, there's a mistake in this one too, related to the toasters: Resistors aren't charged by capacitors, capaciors are charged by resistors.
Resistors are meant to limit current, right? I'd say capacitors are charged by an electrical power source and the resistor is there to make sure the capacitor can't charge past its limit?
@@ninovanhooff3926 yes, "charged via the resistor" makes even more sense, but I tried to keep the wording the same.
I feel honored that Tom is filming this just to the side of the beach where my friend yeeted my flip flops into the river. I would’ve thought that he’d record it back in England instead of sticking around Warsaw.
Also, is that video recorded during Tom’s last visit in Warsaw (clams checking water purity)?
I claim that is Nijmegen in the Netherlands... before watching till the end
that bridge and that wild green area with beach under it is only one in the world, and that's poniatowski bridge in Warsaw eh
Yes . But the distinctive colour of the trains . Going over give their own argument
@@TregMediaHDthose are trams, and busses, not trains. And with their yellow, and red livery they look exactly like those we have in Warsaw. So unless Nijmegen uses exactly the same color schame for their public transport, and has exactly the same looking bridge, it is Warsaw.
@@witekborowski1410 It is Warsaw, you can clearly see the Centrum in the video's last frame.
Many thanks for your efforts to be accurate and not misleading. Cheers!
Love the vids mate, and also love your upfront honesty when you mess up. That said, never in my life have I heard my home town pronounced GEE-long. It's Gee-LONG 😆
Another episode from Warsaw :)
A courtesy visit, or should we wait for a new interesting episode?
