- One teen’s hard work and dedication is now turning into a booming business.
Jacob Irving opened a food truck, which now has the Montgomery community buzzing. And it’s not just because of how the food tastes, but because of the drama that unfolded after the food truck started operating next to a steakhouse.

Owners of both businesses did nothing wrong.
Inconsiderate customers are to blame.
@Fallen A what?
He could have kept an eye on that going on without the hotdogs and free ice cream sign.
I love that this 16yr old started a business and is carrying on a legacy, but I also don't think the other business owner did anything wrong, he made some good points. I do hope both of them succeed.

He really didn't tho lol. The second he tried to insert that hot dog stands and steak houses are competitors all of his points became null. Who grabs their family and says hey let's go to the steakhouse down the road and then change into their mind for a hot dog? By this guy's logic the kid should run a sale on steak dinners and whatever they specialize in.
the only loosers are democRATs as the 16 year old when of voting age will NEVER vote democRAT...!
The owner is right and the fact that that community has people that step in to help everyone is amazing and nice to see
The question need to be asked why did the 16 year old park directly across the parking lot from that Asian man steakhouse of all places to setup shop? And then the locals started to disrespect the Asian man business? The Mayor had to step in because he didn't want his town to be labeled as being a racist community towards minority business owners.

When I read the title and was watching the video in the beginning the first thought that came to mind that something happened with him and the Steakhouse owner a while back which forced him to park him trailer across the parking lot.
And then the news interviewed the Steakhouse owner....lol.
Now the news showing the "bathroom for only customers" signs, the Steakhouse owner selling $1.50 hotdogs, and the owner saying about the amounts of trash being left.
I'm like, this is all happening from 1 hotdog stand? lol
And then the community leader start speaking.

While i understand the steakhouse owner's frustration/point of view like he said life isn't always fair. When you go into business there's competition everywhere.
It's great that there's a community group that actually gets people together to amend their differences, before it gets dangerous for either party or ends up in the horrendous legal system.
That wasn't it why the community leader did that. It was about a young white male setting up shop across the parking lot of a Asian business owner of a steakhouse which could be looked at as racist especially them being in a country town.
@@spankbuda7466 Ah, the race card. I was hoping we'd make it out of this discussion without someone tossing it out there. You lose.
Nah, in a competitive and free market economy, "no free lunches". And that is exactly what the white kid was doing, smooching off someone's expenditures while reaping the benefits.
If the tables were turned, these guys wouldn't come to the aid of the Asian business owner & I'm sure of that.

Shout out to the mediators.
As a former racist Asian, I can use the race card, and I use it here. But that's not the only reason...
I understand the steakhouse owners frustration over people using his facilities and parking spots. I'm behind him 100% in that regard. As for the young hot dog stand owner, I commend him for his astuteness and maturity. I'm glad both owners were able to work it out and I hope it stays that way. God bless.

It’s a horrible story.
Parking in front of a restaurant to sell food is a bold and competitive move in the first place. I think when the kid calls the restaurant owner "petty", it showed disregard for his own actions. I can't imagine that was the only space for him to park his food truck.
Not really, steak house and a hotdog stand have very different cliental, you can't just blanketly just say they both are selling food and act like there is no more nuance or context. That is just poor critical thinking skills, let alone poor economic deduction.
Yeah because food places can't be on the same block are you dumb or something?
Don’t listen to morons. 100% agree with your view point.
I’m upset that the owner was forced to change his tactics. If I didn’t know better this seems like racism to me. And I’m white FYI.

@@ballstothewall38 That's extremely different. If a gas station opens up across the street it's a fair playing field. If he had a business and someone wants to use the restroom it doesn’t matter if they are a customer or not.
My question is: does the town have locations that would feasibly permit moving?
If this is about community, petition the mayor to dedicate a lot (it doesn't have to be much; gravel and power connections will do) to food trucks. So many small towns across the country have started doing this, because people are realizing that food trucks just aren't going away. Why did he choose to put the food truck so close to the restaurant? If he was across the highway in the other parking lot, that’s perfectly fine. The young man needs to respect the owner of the other restaurant. How would he like it if another food truck opened up next to his?
Because that's one of the main roads going through town and you also have foot traffic from those other businesses. And the steak place obviously doesn't own that portion of the parking lot or he wouldn't be there.
A sit down steakhouse and hot dog cart are two very different things it’s hardly competing
@@angelitadavila118 Ah yes, two food services, so different.

This teenager needs to learn common decency and be forced to move his truck.

Once again, I literally was not open yet when he put the sign up. He started selling hot dogs the morning of my grand opening. How could my customers have been throwing trash on his property when I wasn’t even open yet?
You need to learn competition . Crying because a new spot open up , boo hoo many restaurants open next to another restaurant on the same block either next to them or across the street you see that everywhere. Thinking you can open a business and not have any competition is not gonna happen. There's always main restaurants and fast food restaurants grouped up together. So they should be forced to buy a different location just because you cry about cleaning.
i absolutely sympathise with the store owner. setting up essentially on his property and undercutting his business is wrong.

@@Fuglychick I get that. That's why he offered free ice cream and cheaper hot dogs. Sometimes the big lion eats the smaller. This story is about the community angry at the brick and morter for simply trying to drive away the nuisance competition.

The TRUE LEADERS in life have PROVEN they have the ability to overcome the obsticals that hold other people back WHILE ALLOWING others to ADVANCE WITH THEM . Thats why they're LEADERS . You have a good community there !
It ain’t petty, it’s business
Business is business! If the kid starts a business in the restaurant's front yard, they have every right to turn up the competition.
My family have owned multiple businesses and when pop ups happened, I recalled my parents used to get very frustrated. I never ran a store myself so I won't share my opinions, but I'm sure business owners who pay massive rent for a store front, CAM expenses, monthly parking fees for both employee and customer spaces, multiple insurances, plus labor to run a business will bring out that frustration. My parents were always able to overcome these situations by becoming more competitive, so I think it also brought out the best in them to stay alive.
I love the community people should work like this not the other way around all love
The news forgot to mention that he parks along with other food trucks in a food truck parking lot that happens to be across from the steak house. They made it sound like he just decided to randomly park across from a steak house in a vacant lot.
Good point , I wasn't aware and thought the kid could have found another place to
Park
Thanks for the rest of the story........I was confused.
This needs to be a more popular post. People don’t realize that food truck owners do not get to decide where to park for the most part, the city decides that. They can only park where the city permits, or at an event if the event permits. It’s not like the kid just posted up in this guys parking lot. I think the restaurant owner is dead wrong - he has a whole steakhouse, meanwhile the kid ONLY sells hotdogs. That’s not competition wtf
The news didnt think about it I dont think bc the issue was about hot dogs specifically
Thank you for that bit of info. I certainly thought that was the case.
This is a great story. I’m glad it was covered I’m also glad they interview both sides. The steakhouse owner was getting a bad wrap. He was able to tell his side which was very valid. Not only were the other businesses customers trying to use his bathroom but were also taking up parking spaces for his customers.
In all honesty who knows how truthful he's being about everyone from the hot dog stand using his restroom. Furthermore, why sell hot dogs when you're a steakhouse? Especially shortly after a hot dog stand opens? I think that part shows poor character.
@@GameChanger597 but that happens a lot of times. I live right next to a flower shop and EVERYONE parks there. There are a couple of businesses and they share parking. However people from all over the neighborhood park there as well. It takes spots away from the paying customers.
Plus with COVID everyone is washing their hands still all the time or should be. There are no designated parking spots or places to wash/ use the restroom before eating. It trickles over to his business. In his mind he’s trying to get the kid to relocate.
I do agree that it was a little shady to try to undercut the young man’s business.

The news coverage was good. The store owner has a point.
It's great to see a 16 year old start his own business, we should all support and encourage kids to be more like him, on the other hand, the steak house owner does have legitimate concerns regarding his property as far as parking and using the amenities within his building by non-customers , and competition is a fact of life, it's nothing to be upset about.
I get where the steak house person is coming from, but if they come to use the restrooms, they will smell the food and eventually come back through to eat dinner there on another night. By not allowing people to use restrooms, he is losing future customers who might not go in there otherwise.

If it's so competitive, why be so threatened by a kid? It's a steakhouse. He only started selling hot dogs to run a 16 y.o kid out of business. That's scummy & pathetic. Ppl messing up his bathrooms is HIS fault; stop letting them in! Call a tow truck for unauthorized parked cars and call it a day. There was no need to try to destroy a kid's business. @@TheBuddyCassius it shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place, the kid can move his truck away from the steak house. That’s like your neighbor is having a BBQ and his guests are parking in your yard, leaving trash everywhere, and trying to use your bathroom because his is broken.
