It is understandable that they despise it & still they do keep watching it however being in Japan I thought they were aware of SAO popularity in Japan, that's kinda shocking.

This is probably a unpopular opinion but I really liked the sao progressive movie that came out recently and I think in my opinion it's the version of sao we wanted it was truly a masterpiece
Basically when you decide to adapt the novels faithfully and adding anime original content to flesh out the story and characters from the source materials instead of......whatever happened in Alicization.
And yes, progressive is indeed peak SAO.

Like it or not SAO is a big seller in stores. My cousin owns a collectors shop and had a rare Kirito and Asuna statue he was selling for $250 each. Told me he'd give me one for $180 if they're still avaliabe once I get out of work. I punches out at 5:00 from work and got to his shop at 5:27. I said "I'll take the Asuna statue". He said "Asuna sold 10 minutes after I posted it on facebook and Kirito just walked out the door at 4:55". It was my fault because he told me he would hold it for me if I wanted him to, but I told him to just make the bigger sale if someone gets there first. He gifted me the Asuna statue for my birthday so I was happy in the end.
