They couldve extended it way longer tot develop all the characters and do world building. I still like they show though dont get me wrong.

In all fairness, something I feel is overlooked in the Alfheim arc, is that Asuna is still on life support, and if you paid attention to what she said back in Aincrad, during the brief time Kirito was in the Knights of the Blood Oath, her body would eventually shut down, that's the driving motivation. Sure, Kirito wasn't in any real danger, sure, he could have been a little careless, died a few times, but at what cost? Having to do all that traveling again, wasting time that Asuna probably didn't have? He was trying to save her, he makes that very clear throughout the Alfheim arc, and that is why he can't afford to die, and be set back by the time it would take to retrace his steps. As far as the "As long as I am alive, I won't let anyone in my party die ever again" bit, well, after spending 2 years in a death game, watching people die, fighting for your life, you probably wouldn't be the most mentally stable person either, when you decided to dive into another VRMMO. Sure, his life wasn't at stake, but the life of someone he cared about was, so I can see that. As far as the GGO and Mother's Rosaria arcs, I can't really justify those, tbh they did seem like an attempt to squeeze more money out of the franchise, although I do wish that they had ended Alfheim in a better, less bullshit way.

Red Fire I found the "in 5 minutes" version of Gigguk waaaaay better. After seeing one episode, I put dislike and stopped. Like, where is the good in it? Every sketch was stupid and unfunny, the dub is awful and the fact that people finds it *BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL ANIME* only makes it worse.

All I really want from the series is something that looks good and has an actual struggle where Kirito isn't bullshit and where no stupid deus ex machinas, plotholes, or rape/fanservice shit happens. IDK if this film accomplishes that, but I feel like that's not THAT high of a bar to set all things considered. I don't expect anything from this series to have complex narratives or well-defined likable characters or anything actually great, but could we at least get the bare minimum of quality with this crap if it's going to be forced down our throats with so much more content???

Why do people hate fanservice and OP characters so much, like seriously how is that a negative for a series.
SAO always gets the animation and action scenes right. The only reason I can't get into it is because of the characters. They are very unrelatable to me, so I'm unable to get invested and care about them.
I often view SAO like a Michael Bay production.
The visuals and action sequences are stellar and pure eye candy. They are very well done and beautiful to see. But, its characters could use some work in order for me to actually care for them. There needs to be real dept behind them.
Eh, at least from what I've seen, the choreography in the show's fight scenes tends to be pretty crap. Characters just run and fly around making big flashes of light appear, with no real sense of what their actual abilities or limitations are. There's no sense of impact to anything, there's just a lot of movement going on to try to trick you into thinking the fight scenes are good. The clips Gigguk has shown of the movie, however, seem to be a step up.

Don´t get me wrong, I like the concept of SAO. The stuck in the game is alright, the romance was actually pretty good, and the fights were pretty good. Just one massive flaw. Fucking Kirito. A fucking disabled autistic child would be a better choice than him. Saitama, Luffy, or Gintoki do that ´I don´t really care´ thing. But they actually do it in a funny way. Kirito just seems really ´edgy´. In a similar way as Subaru. But in Re:Zero the ignorant protagonist gets punished for his stupidity and pridefulness.

Then there is fairy dance do I need to say more. Season 2 actually had 2 great arcs and a filler arc but I actually enjoy season 2. Plus even some guys I knew ended up watching season 2 and enjoying way more then 1. The movie is pretty decent and the first half of Alicization is great. Then War of Underworld though...*shivers* a bleak future awaits the anime only watchers.

Aincrand was the best part of the anime, so I'm glad they're back to what works. And besides Kirisuna, all the characters are just there anyway, so I don't care if they weren't developed.

Dudst104 I hope so too, but it moves so slowly that's unlikely to ever be completed. Every book covers a floor or two of Aincard, which is great for world building, but it means that it will end up being a 50+ volume series.
Here is my reaction to the movie (WARNING SPOILERS): It was a really good animated movie. The animation, music, art, and story was amazing! But the one complaint I have is the ending. The way asuna got her memory back was anticlimactic and full of cringe. I myself would give this movie a 9/10. That 1 missing is from the ending.

and then I came across this and I just laughed out loud because I realized no matter how something is good or popular it still has its negative things. yeah you actually make great points about the movie and I'm not complaining. that was the main reason I stay away from reviews or anything like that because it will ruin my own opinion.
The same thing happened to me. Watched SAO and it was my first anime. Loved every second of it, then went into anime communities and learned everyone hated it. Yeah, it had its bad moments, but that doesn't mean the whole thing sucks. Just let me enjoy my show

SAO was my second anime after GATE, and I liked it. I didnt notice all the flaws at first, only after finishing it and watching other vids about it, but I think it was good, or at least enjoyable. So far I watched all SAO movies and seasons and Im waiting for the second part of Alicization to come out.

One thing I disagree with most is the bruting thing. Isn't that how it's suppose to work? All his challenges thus far have been physical, even in the virtual world. In order to face challenges that you must approach physically it would be keen to brute on and get faster and stronger whether it be through leveling up, or practicing with a wooden sword. I thought this theme was very apparent in the movie, he had to adapt to the real world there by training through bruting on. Plus he's a head strong guy, strategy isn't really in his personality.
Also idk if anyone has done a video on this, but I believe another great theme, or debate if you'd rather, is VR vs AR. In our common worldly society it does seem that AR is taking over in a lot of places. Pokemon Go definitely being one of the ground runners.

gigguk complementing an already hated anime despite how the community currently feels about it is why gigguk will always be the best anime youtuber out there, because he's not afraid to criticize an anime for both its good and its bad. were as most other anime youtubers just continue hating on sao in an attempt to look edgy and cool while playfully avoiding any actual confrontation or argument about why they loath the series so much other than "bad characters" or "plot holes" (the anime man, digibro, ect)
Let me list the reason why people hate SAO so much.
1. Bad character development.
2. Bad story/plot
3. It got famous because of luck, and overshadowing other anime that have done number 1 and 2 right.
Just because it have good music and art, doesn't mean it's good. For example, "I have aids! At least it's not cancer!"
I have to agree. Despite it's flaws, and being fully aware of them, I still greatly enjoy the series, including the Alfheim arc, because I found enjoyment in all of it. And you,re right about all of these people throwing around buzzwords and overused terms like "plotholes", and things of the sort, but never want to elaborate or talk about it or debate with someone who actually enjoys the show and has the ability to back himself up. All in all, Im still a big fan of the series, despite it's flaws, and being aware of them, and I enjoy it because it's fun, entertaining, and exciting, at least for me.
Digibro has videos talking for hours about why he dislikes SAO. It goes much farther than just plot holes and bad characters.
It didn't get famous by simple 'luck', it got famous because of it's timing where gaming was becoming a norm, and SAO happened to be somewhat 'fresh' at the time it was aired.
And well, people realized it's flaws later on and it became hated, then it'll still air more anime eps, relaese more SAO games, and pretty much there's nothing haters can do about it, they actually help SAO being talked about more in the first place. :/

The original SAO, as seen in the original web novel, was only an MMO on a skin deep level. Sure, it "had" mobs, bosses, dungeons, player organizations, NPCs, quests, everything you would expect to see in, say, Asheron's Call, or Everquest, but they were all incredibly shallow, written by someone who was pretty clearly not a particularly avid player, and definitely not someone with slightest idea of how game design or publication works.
Actually he might be no hard-core gamer, since he has a job to do, but if you just read some of the afterword's it becomes obvious that Kawahara clearly likes to play games but the games. If you want to talk about the game SAO itself and bring the novel in it you should use SAO Progressive and not the Web Novel that was first rewritten into LN format and then rebooted and improved in Progressive

while I agree that their depictions of MMORPG are quite bad, not all MMO's are RPG's...
One of the earliest ones I ever played (in 1997) was a team based, 2d top-down spaceship shooter.
up to 128 players on a server, broken up into two or more teams, trying to destroy the other team, or capture territory or whatever.
That's one of the earliest technical experiments into the technology required for an MMO, and it is in no way even close to an RPG.
In terms of mechanics and presentation it's a bullet hell shooter transformed into a multiplayer team-based game.
Still, the concepts seen in SAO are nonetheless quite bizarre.
A Full dive VR game, even if it's technically an MMORPG would probably not resemble current MMO's though.
I mean think about MMO game mechanics, then consider what the implications are of VR that reproduces an environment and avatar to the point where you can move all your fingers and toes and the rest of your body, have a sense of touch, taste and smell, and can basically already do pretty much every action you can do in real life by default, plus it feels real.
(here's something I learnt even from primitive VR using a headset - a 3 meter drop that seems like a trivial thing to jump off in a game? Fucking terrifying in VR.)
most of the things MMORPG's are built around would be stupid, redundant, annoying, or all three if you were using full-dive VR...

It's a real shame if what you said is true. This could've been a turning point for SAO for the better going into Alicization but it looks like a movie worth watching nonetheless, for me anyway. I still like SAO despite its flaws and I can already tell this is the perfect addition to what they've laid out so far.
Honestly the story falls flat and has a lot of flaws, but I'm one of those people that looks for entertainment in something, and if an anime entertains me I'll watch it, people call me stupid and retarded for doing this, but I just say that I don't want to waste my valuable time hating on something when the world is already bad as it is. Besides... Sword Art Online is one of those animes with a lot of flaws, but never failed to entertain me.
I dont think we should be trying to do that. Whoever liked SAO in the first place is gonna be pleased with the movie. I would never recommend s3 to someone that didnt like the first 2 seasons even if the movie were the biggest blockbuster in the last century. They are just gonna drop it not even half way through since its going to be~50eps long...

Maybe to an extent, but I see FAR too many comments saying 'OMG SAO IS THE WORST ANIME EVER' which is a complete lie. There are FAR worse animes out there than SAO.
I figure one of the main things that got SAO so popular in the first place was also what lead to it getting bashed so much: Were SAO not the frontrunner of its kind, I doubt people would bash it so much, but it would also be nowhere near as popular. The concept isn't new (.Hack did it first), but it's the frontrunner because it was the first widely available anime of its genre.
SAO's not TERRIBLE by any means... it just missed a lot of potential, and could've been a lot better. To sum it up in a word... decent, but disappointing.
Kirito could really be written better (I take SAO Progressive, a Manga retelling of the Aincrad Arc, to be proof of that, where he's actually a bit more relatable from what I've read), and there are some rather jarring writing problems (Although to be fair if SAO3 follows the Light Novels, we might be getting something actually good soon).

Kirito is well written in the first novel. The character in the adaptation is shit, but the character himself isn't.

I think Overlord was worse than SAO if we speak of plotholes, harem elements and op main character. The only reason no one hates on it is that those points were clear from start.
It would have been cooler for the fight with Kasuto and Edgy (xD) to have been longer, and maybe another battle before that, in which edgy wins, just to give more depth to the threat of him. Also it would have been cool if Kirito had just a couple more badass moments, maybe him having to fight the level 100 boss all by himself for a minute or so, or him getting thrown through a few more walls lol. I really liked the parts where asuna and kasuto were together, and the fight scenes. Also maybe just maybe a badass moment from like Sinon or something?

I forgot that this was made so i watched it yesterday and it was really good
I also got to see the film a bit earlier in Singapore and here's what I thought of it in a non-spolier nutshell (which is similar to Gigguk)
Pros:
1. Animation was beautiful most of the time especially during the fights (nitpick: except for the parts where they got lazy and just took scenes from the previous two seasons for flashbacks which looked really jarring due to the difference in animation quality rather than just re-animating them)
2. Kirito not OP from the start
3. Soundtrack (tho not as amazing as the main series' ost) was still good (wooo swordland remix)
4. Concept of AR gaming quite interesting.
Cons:
1. Kirito gets strong at an unbelievably fast time. He's fking weak at the start among the 100,000 in rank but once he gets the motivation to actually get good it immediately jumps to him having one of the highest ranks in the game like wtf. A training montages where we see him struggle to get better for the sake of (can't say because spoilers) would have been much more emotionally powerful. Why go through the trouble of keep emphasising that he is weak (he literally trips and falls flat on his fking face during the first fight) when you're just gonna make him immediately op again in a blink of an eye. Wasted potential here.
2. Very weak clichéd villains just like the main series that lack any sort of character development. I didn't care about them at all and don't even remember their names a few hours after the movie.
3. Yui
4. Not enough Sinon (more of a nitpick)
Overall: 6/10 It was a fine film that unless you really want to see the visuals and sound pop on the big screen, you should just watch it online.

Regarding con one, I'd say not continuing having Kirito be weak in the game is probably because after a while, that won't be nearly that interesting. I can only speak from personal experience, but in an action oriented series, unless the main character is *supposed* to be a non-action person or intended to not be nearly as competent at fighting as other characters (for whatever the story reason might be), it gets pretty boring seeing them be weaker than everyone else after a while. Especially when it's a character who's been one of the best before. Like with most things I think it has to be paced properly, though that will rely a lot on each person's own subjective opinion. I dunno, I just find action oriented main characters being kept weak and/or incompetent for a large portion of the story to get boring after a while, so that's probably why it didn't go on as long as you would have liked.

dude fantasy anime was niche as fuck before sao, thanks to it's now being made alot more so yeah there will be copycats but there will also still be alot of growth for the genre from just the sheer weight of the many new show. Don't even compare the two. Lelouch had every right for his attitude in the series, while Kirito's not close to that level, and this is coming from someone who genuinely likes SAO (well, the Aincrad Arc and the GGO and Mother's Rosario books). Lelouch was literally a highschool who basically had PTSD from his mother, the only family he actually loved, 'dying' right in front of him as well as the weight of having lives on his shoulders. It starts out with only a few but then goes to millions as the scope of his power increased. If a guy like that's not allowed to be edgy then everyone may as well just get a lobotomy so they never feel anything again.
RandomGuy i think you're missing the joke man, i'm talking about his CHIN, most of the characters in the Code Geass have sharp edgy chin (it's their character design i know) i compared their edgy chin with Kirito's edgy attitude, that's what i meant. But yeah i agree, Leluoch is a waaaayy better character than Kirito.
and yet lelouch braves through all the deaths he causes but remains steadfast, which in reality is quite impossible for anyone to do. Kirito on the other hand is far more vulnerable and fragile, and not even nearly as capable as lelouch.
In short, kirito to is paper mario. He's kinda 2D, and a half-assed character as far as character creation goes. Not really fleshed out, a bit like a stereotypicaly male protag in a harem anime.
It's really hard to defend kirito or see any good points in kirito when you're trying to be so damn realistic about everything.
