This set is a year older than myself. It may have fewer than 300 pieces, but there are still some unique elements to it. Most notably, the 4x4x2 quarter fence piece, the 1x2x2 2/3 window w/ rounded top and the 2x4 cannon base in "Mata green" are exclusive to this set and its re-release (6291) from 2001. The same is true for the 4x5 trap door plate in "Mata blue", and the 6x8 trap door frame and the 12x12x5 1/3 and 8x12 boat hulls in white. In addition, the 2x4x3 1/3 hinge panel in black is exclusive to this set.

I like these small ships, because they were a way to get a ship for kids that couldnt afford the bigger ones. Of course they dont compare to the imperial flagship from 2009/2010. For the Armada Flagship, I think there is one colour more than would be good. Its just a little much, tho it still looks interesting and kinda cool.

Thanks for the comment JH. I agree that the lower price point made it more affordable for kids, although $50 USD back in 1996 is about $83 USD inflated for today’s money. That’s about the price of the Creator 3in1 Pirate Ship on sale.

@@BrickTherapy Yeah lego back then was even more of a premium toy than today

The compass is really cool but I think it needs more cannons.

Thanks for the comment. For a ship called a flagship, it needs a lot more than what was provided. 😬

It’s not the worst ship in the Pirates theme, but far from my favorite. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@BrickTherapy It's not the worst ship. It's the best ship.

Those 2 ships look so depleted vs the Clipper , so much wasted potential in 1996

Agreed. LEGO definitely did not give love to the Imperial fleet. Not until 2010. 😉

The clipper is the toy I bought with my communion money in1989

i think its chestplate not breastplate

According to bricklink and history, a breastplate typically covers the front. So its a breastplate.
