    If "caddies and players all know this", why is it up to Fitzpatrick or his caddie to confront him? Also, it not against the rules to make notes, it's against the rules to use those notes during a round.

      Then he should call the rule on him then in the moment… don’t do it behind his back later.

    I'm sorry, why should Fitzy do anything? It must be excruciating to have to tell one of your competitors that they think they've cheated, but the blame has to be with the cheater.

    you're being biased here

  • @lazy_dad
    @lazy_dad Před 5 měsíci +11

    it's a rules violation to see someone break the rules and not report it to a rules official. one thing i think stinks about this is morikawa said they spoke to the rules officials on the practice green and got the go-ahead for what they were doing. it seems like overkill to me as the slope is pretty much a standard % based on the stimp/green speed. so the chart i have in my book is basically 1% slope = 2-3 inches outside the cup on a 10 speed green, which can be applied to any green. of course you have to account for an up/down slope as well, but really it seems like in this case it was a bit over the top. seeing morikawa move his ball off that marker and then move the marker...now that is a clearcut rules violation!!

    • @Radioghost717
      @Radioghost717 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Only correction I’d make is a 1% slope is 2-3 inches outside the cup depending on the distance of the putt. It’s why guys hold up one finger because a 8ft putt will break a lot less than a 20 footer.

    I actually don’t think it’s a ‘be a man’ and talk to Collin face to face issue. Like you said, these guys KNOW the rule. And Collin and JJ knew they were cheating. They’d keep doing it. I’m not against Fitzy telling an official.

    Fitzpatrick reported the violation. That is all that is required in order to protect the field. When he does it is irrelevant as the violation has occurred and the penalty will be assessed. In other way of revealing the violation is to refuse to sign the violators card at the end of the round.

These guys prob know how much their shot is affected if they fart into the wind during their swing....You think Colin needs a reminder on a rule? Seems unlikely. • @paulsamora1348

    Why not just ban all green diagrams and make them read their own putts or is that to simple a solution. It should be a part of the game to read your own putts especially for the money they are playing for. Same for yardage books, use the yardage books provided by the course instead of caddie measuring every sq inch of course. Certainly would speed the game up the players are always screaming about.

  • @PeanOutside

    Seems like it’s not against the rules to write it down on the practice green but if you use those notes on the course it’s against the rules. So Fitzpatrick doesn’t need to say anything on the practice green cuz it’s not cheating. Then on the course maybe he wasn’t 100% sure that it was cheating cuz there seems to be some confusion so he asked for clarity from an official after the round and that led to “snitching”

    The player is NOT cheating until he walks onto the tee and starts playing using the book. If someone is playing already and teeing up outside the tee or in front - YES I would let them know. Did Morikawa alert his playing partners before he moved the ball back at The Masters or call an official first? That would seem the way to go; not just unilaterally move the ball. Maybe ask if there was any TV footage of the incident. Same as Patrick Reed claiming his ball embedded when TV footage showed it actually bounced into that position. He just went ahead and moved it. Why make Fitzpatrick out to be the bad guy when as a professional you MUST know the rules yourself; you only have yourself to blame. Same as when Hovland called out JT and his mate for trying to cheat with the position of a drop when the ball went into a water hazard. Thank God Hovland had the guts unlike Casey Wittenburg when Tiger "won" the Players after a very questionable drop. And everyone says VJ had a cheating background at one stage? There are a lot of others including LPGA players who have been found wanting in ethics.

    Wasn't it a local rule that you could use your notes, but not if you used a "device"? He asked an official if he could use it, and he said yes. That guy was wrong, obviously. I don't think he was trying to cheat.

  • @rooboy69
    @rooboy69 Před 5 měsíci

    Collin was more upset with the rules official in his post round presser than he was with whoever reported it. He was upset that the main official made him wait in the change room 5 mins midway through his warm up to tell him about the penalty....plus the fact the other rules officials said it was fine. Should be told "that's not allowed but since an official told U it was ok we won't penalize you" would be the mature thing to do

    You brought up the masters twice. Trying to create a situation that was just not there. I suggest if you are going to comment on a rules situation you learn the rule. 13.1d. There is no penalty if you accidentally move your ball on the putting green as long as you replace it. Even the way Morikawa replaced it was absolutely 100% correct. Even if it was moved by natural forces he used the correct procedure because the ball had been previously marked. Just get it right. So to say the most recent situation is payback is typical of the crap your channel spreads.

    My takes:
    1 that masters thing is super wierd I don’t remember that. I don’t get what the heck collin is doing there.
    2 collin may not be as bright as we may assume. But I not for a second question his integrity.
    3 I have no Problem with anything Fitz did. It’s not his responsibility to protect a player who is being negligent with the rules. But the rule is so stupid and confusing it’s understandable he wanted to clear things up because he legitimately wished he could do it also.
    4 the fact an official gave morikawa the go ahead cannot be understated. A lot should happen from that, especially morikawa being forgiven for his infraction because an offficial said it’s ok.
    5 we need to stop calling players snitches and this and that. Golf does have a legit issue with cheating possibly being in the rise at all levels. As well as players not bothering to know rules that don’t favor them. We cannot attack players protecting the field. Now if they build a reputation of a lot of accusations that lead to nothing, then they deserve criticism. But Fitz did nothing wrong here.
