Damn straight!!!
The Chrysler Corporation is the most backward company I’ve ever seen. They’re engineers are capable of making some of the most desirable vehicles that should easily make them profitable. However the executives keep dropping the ball by either waiting to long to release the product, making stupid decisions and mergers or just eliminating the few things that makes sense.
Corporate types don't understand cars at all. They routinely pinch pennies in the wrong places. If they have a big seller, it's by accident and they will quickly find a way to put a stop to that nonsense.
It’s not Chrysler Corporation anymore, it’s been bastardized by Stellantis
Chrysler was mostly poorly managed and if it wasn't for car guys, including those that worked or got called in to save it, time and time again, it would've disappeared completely and been considered a joke when rarely remembered.
Car guys nowadays are the only ones pumping some hype into any present of past products. Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler branded itself don't deserve its fans and clearly is mostly past, not present or future.
You thought 60s Chrysler was creative, Look at their Forward look models, from 1955-62 designs. They were magnificent and beautiful.
🤔I've always said why don't they do this or that , are they being extorted all the time ,that new Demon should have an aluminum block it'd be untouchable by all
Just gotta take a second to say, hats off to the production quality. I know a ton about cars, but the presentation, information and coherence of these videos are just captivating. I always end up learning something.
Agreed!
Agreed, my brother. (:])
This video was incredible! Anyone else think an armrest delete mod is the most ridiculous sounding thing out there?
it’s for sure ridiculous, I remember hearing somewhere… not sure if Ferrari or Lamborghini but they would charge customers more for a floor mat delete.
I had that in a 93 Silvia lmao. Oranges to apples.
I heard they switched the gas cap to Tupperware to reduce weight
No that's not ridiculous. What's ridiculous is trying to hold onto 600-horsepower with one hand.
I removed my sun roof, passenger seats, airbags, carpet, ac, speakers, door cards, windshield washer reservoir, Headliner, fold down sun blockers, bumper supports , sound deadening materials, swapped to a 5lb battery all in a street car to save weight, in addition to swapping to carbon every chance I got. My car went from 3465lbs to 2695lbs . At 370 whp it sure makes the most of what it currently puts down
I used to race my 442 on the streets of Detroit in the early '70's, where there was plenty of competition. I rarely got beat, but the worst beat-down was by a late '60's Dart 340 that was just wicked. Those cars were the real deal, both at the strip and on the street.
My dad used to race... he was one of the founders of the soul stars club in detroit I was young but from wat I remember he had a Chevy nova that sent cars bk to California bcuz either they blow engines or jus straight lose
Thank you for this video. It seems everyone forgets about the HEMI Dart. There were also a few HEMI Barracudas as well.
This is the only channel I run all notifications for. These videos are absolutely some of, if not the best, content on CZcams right now. I swear with every one that comes out, you implement something new that enhances the atmosphere of the video. Animation to information - it's next level.
It's important to note: in 1968 Plymouth had the B023 Barracuda. Same super sport drag-race package as the Dart. Both were reportedly built with only around 50-70 examples of each. Both capable of a 10.5 et with just regular race prep and tires. Plymouth and Dodge had a couple of sister models like this.
The 1968 Dodge Dart HEMI LO23 and 1968 Plymouth Barracuda HEMI LO29 were ABSOLUTE BEASTS in thier era... In a time when most of thier peers did low 14's, they were doing mid to low 11's in the quarter mile... 0_0
Thunderbolt was doin low 11’s in 1963….
@@CoyoteFTW You are exactly right my dude! Aside from that, and the 1962-64 Chevrolet Impala SS409 Z11, there wasn't much else that could pose a big enough threat to cast any doubt as to which car was superior in the 1/4 mile...
Also, the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt 427 was posting the same ET as the LO23/LO29's, but the Ford had around ~150-160 extra horsepower (657 vs 500-ish HP).
@@CoyoteFTW The LO23 did 9’s, by the way.
I like Honda's tag line "Win on Sunday, mow on Monday!"
Never piss off Chrysler, because they will build a car that will beat whatever record you broke that they previously had.
Tesla Plaid: “I’m so fast!”
Demon 170: “Fuck you.”
Tesla Plaid: “Oh…”
Tesla says "oh" because it knows it cant tune to go faster, 1 trick poney 0-60 sec. Thats all it gots 😂
The '68 Cudas and Darts still rule SS/A and have for over 55 years. These cars were so dominating NHRA invented Pro Stock to try to eliminate these animals from Pro Drag Racing.
I've built 3 - SS/AH Clones and they were a rush to race.
RIP hellcat you will be missed
Tell me you have bad taste in cars without telling me
@@pastyninja3212 He doesn't. But I bet you do.
@@pastyninja3212 if I had the money to buy one I still wouldn’t but they are cool cars and it’s unfortunate to see them go
Money talks and bullshit walks... they say their discontinuing production...but let someone with a ass crack full of cash ask to special order one...I betcha they'll get one.
@@pastyninja3212hellcat is the most fun car to drive on the highway if you’ve never driven one don’t speak
It’s hard to hate on dodge with how they handled themselves since 2015 going bigger and badder damn near every year
what do you mean?? they have just milking the same car for ages. acting like dodge is an innovative company
@@miseryparty3726 1000 hp for under 100 grand with a warranty is quite the innovation. Bringing horsepower to everyone with some extra cash as opposed to the European brands that treat horsepower like its reserved for royalty while everyone else is stuck driving 1 liter 3 cylinders
@@miseryparty3726 If you haven't noticed, "milking the same car for ages" is what basically all American car brands do, and if you look at it that way, yes you may be right about the car name being the same but they have been extremely innovative with their engines - nothing can beat that 6.2 liter supercharged V8 at its game sound-wise thats for sure. And now they're taking it further by breaking the 9 second timeframe for the quarter mile, making it the fastest production car in the quarter mile. tell me how that's not innovative
@@matrinezkevin11492 1000hp for under 100 grand is not innovation. Having warranty isn’t innovation. pretty sure all new cars have warranty, nothing new. 1000hp is also nothing new, i can build a 1000hp car for less than 50 grand. what is even the point of having 1000hp? that kind of power is useless, especially on a dodge. don’t even bring the “it’s factory 1000hp” argument, cause it’s invalid and used by people who are afraid of machine. way more impressive to build your own fast car.
@@duckofcards6524 therefore, american cars are boring. would have been cool to see a factory supercharged V10 Viper. hellcats are not special, they just took a run of the mill hemi and slapped a supercharger on it. there is nothing innovative about dodge’s engines or engine sound. an AMG M156 sounds way better. quarter mile times mean nothing, nothing special about a car going fast in a straight line
What's insane is that if the CARB didn't get in the way Dodge would have 100% put the 1500HP Hellphant engine in this, and the fact is nobody is going to argue against that we all know Dodge is a wild company lol
I had a 71 Demon 340 4 speed back about 1980 . Shortly before that a 70 Charger R/T. Good Times! Mopar for life.
My first car was a 1972 Dodge Demon that my dad bought for me when I was in high school in 1978. Woefully underpowered by then it was still a sharp looking ride. Miss you old man.
This video reminds me of my friends 1968 Dart Gt in highschool back in 1980. It was old school and us kids had second hand classic muscle cars to pick from brings back memories. Awesome video and documentary !!
"11:1 COMPRESSION

This page NEVER misses, feels like a mini documentary series. Can you cover rally/F1/Le Mans/Endurance Racing? I think It would be awesome if you covered more
I’ll dive into them real soon🤙🏽
I traded in my 67 GTX conv with the 440 Super Commando, in on my 1972 Demon. Miss the GTX. But I still have my Demon !!!
Chrysler corp. has a legacy of engineering behind some of the best engines ever made. I knew a guy, back in the day some 50 years ago, that installed a hemi in a 57 Chevy with a Ford rear end. He was either a genius or insane, but he put the best motor in a 57. The Chrysler corp. has lived on the brilliant engineering of its engines, and has been a pioneer in new body styles for many decades. Kudos also to the guys that designed the slant 6, a power horse design that has stood the test of time.
I like vintage over modern . .. dosent matte if I'm in the newest .. I still take my hat off to the old school . Still scary when u pull up new cars to these old cars makes you want to think twice .
The 68 Super Stock Dart has so much stuff ahead of its time. And it was the during the golden age of motorsports
I always learn something from your videos. Thank you.
My pleasure!
I'm glad I found this great channel, I grew up in the 60s & 70s, I had a large number of Motorcycles, Some were extremely fast, and 4 fast cars Ex, 1969 Chevelle SS 396, Aluminum heads and I had a drag racing friend that built the motor for me, Bumped up from 375HP to 550+, Went to my 1st drag race in 1966, and been lovin it since, THX For posting. 👊 😎 subbed 🏎
I bet that thing ran like a scalded dog too 💨🔥🔥💪
@@eyeshocars9978 Yes Sir, It did do that. 👊 😎
So some stuff to add to the hemi darts. They actually came after the Cuda, there were two woodward garage test cars, which were the foundation of the program. Tom Tignanelli was the test driver, and his sole job was to try different camshafts, carbs, heads, etc...on the test cars to find the optimum combination. Those reports then went out to the hemi cuda and dart drivers, as a blueprint essentially. Also, the intakes on those cars...and this is wild, magnesium, and in weight saving efforts, they didn't even have roll up windows. They use a seatbelt to pull the window up and down. Its truly wild stuff
Man, when we think you done your best work, you just come and top yourself. Thanks for making these videos bro... your service is well appreciated.
my dream car, one day ill own a 426 dart, one day lmfao
I see a 337 video and I click…jus like that my day is better now thank u bro keep them 🔥
❤️
Another excellent video. I really enjoy these automotive history videos, these are especially well done. This channel and THE SQUIDD channel have really done a great job on these topics.
The Squidd’s writing and pacing is next level. One day I’ll be like him😂
This channel is the best automotive channel on CZcams, hell I take that back. This is the best channel on CZcams. You do such a great job with these videos, I learn so much. And at the end of the video I just think to myself I cannot wait for the next one and I wonder what will the next one be covering. Keep up the great work, I will continue to watch with great anticipation and enthusiasm.
Dude, bravo on this exceptional production! This is how car biographies should be. You go into hidden details of each model that most top tier tv productions skips over to make room for ad space. Keep up the good work!
It's a shame most of the hemi darts ended up wrapped around telephone poles - IMO that was the most insane mopar of it's period. *Edit lol commented too soon, there it is
One of the most insane cars of the period, held the world record quarter mile for an American car for a long long time.
Most didn’t get wrapped around telephone poles, they weren’t street legal, they only made a little over 50 of each Dart and Barracuda’s. They did not come with paper work to get a title, plus you had to have an NHRA license and connections to buy one!
@@theoriginalmungaman ah yes - because owners never drove them off track 😂
@@dmacpher They didn’t, too expensive and hard to get one. Most are still in tact today. People have found ways to register them these days, but the value prevents them from being driven stupid.
@@theoriginalmungaman Guy I went to school with had a Barracuda. His mom pulled it out of storage one day and I remember driving past it in their driveway. I knew what it was but I knew very little about it then and didn't know just how rare they were. I went to take a look at it the next day and it was already gone. Would have stopped when I first saw it if I'd known they were selling it.
Nitride treated steel is the closest thing we’ve got to Vibranium. I used to build fuel injectors for locomotive engines and we used that in most of the internal components
The Hemi Dart was pretty much the reason I have my 67 Dart now. I always loved the idea of the car, though knew something quite that specialized was a bit excessive. I just loved the look though. I get into the 5.7 Hemi swap in the earlier days when they were just starting to make off the shelf mounts and parts to do the swap. It's evolved several times over its life, but still a ton of fun, even if it's not really that powerful.
Mopar has always been doing crazy stuff. Back in the 1960's my dad was at the Air Force academy in Colorado Springs. There was a local car rental where he and others would chip in and rent fast cars. Cornet RT 440's, Olds 442's, Chevelle SS and first year Camaro 67 302 Z-28's. Future pilots , so you know how those things were abused on the weekends. His favorite was the Camaro Z28's , it's handling and braking ability and high rpm range. That man could flat out wheel it.
3000 dollars in 68 is equivilent to under 30k in 2023.
These car prices failed to scale properly
That’s why I will always love dodge they go out loud
Great breakdown on This generation Challenger , Hellcat , Demon etc . They’re absolutely impressive and it’s kind of astonishing to see a factory car run 8.90s - as a younger man an 11 second car was very radical and couldn’t be your daily driver really.
You’re accurate on the Hemi Dart tech but since both It and the 68 Super Stock Barracuda were built specifically for Super Stock racing - I’m missing the connection to it being the “ Demon of the 60s” - they weren’t in anywhere near the numbers to qualify that. 🤷🏻♂️ Also , it was implied that Chrysler’s first Hemi V8 was the 426 of 1964 when it was actually the 331 of 1951, with the first generation of Hemis being 1951-58. Yes the 426 was a new generation. I guess these notes are extraneous to how performance history is told today.
This is a great video. Lots of accurate info… My old man Raced a 340 Duster back in the late 70s, early 80s and won 4 NHRA class championships and held the Super stock class record for many years. Mopar owned the drag strip in the 70’s and 80’s.
great writing, I love that you dug deep into the MoPars history. that 10 second dart was the real deal, people don't know about these cars. The Baldwin-Motion Camaros were a result of the MoPars
its incredible how the HP has grown over the years with these engines.
The production quality of this video is incredible! Nice to see a video thats not complaining about Demon 170 markups. Keep up the good work, love the blend of old and new!
So well edited and made.. thank you!
Great video! Its a nice change, as often videos on CZcams (articles online for that matter) are loaded w incorrect info. The only thing I noticed was in reference to the trickle down effect of the demon in regards to the redeye. While you aren't wrong per se (in regards to redeye receiving the larger s.c.), the redeye inherited much more than a bigger blower and cooling/power chiller. The redeye actually has the entire demon motor + drivetrain over a regular hellcat. The engine, upgraded trans, different torque converter, stronger axles, etc etc). Nice work tho! Very cool video
Dodge is like an Uncle Eddy. They don’t bother asking themselves if they should, they simply just do it.😂😂
It's a great day when 337 Speed notification pops up
Dude, your videos are awesome, keep it up!
ps: I have an idea, a video about the f40's engine
Man, the modeling and editing get better every video that passes, great work man, keep it happening!
I love your videos man! Such wonderful productions! Thanks for always making great content!
Absolute weapon of a vehicle, pretty sure the Dart (Chrysler Valiant in Australia) is the reason why I fell in love with muscle cars.
As always, awesome delivery guys - the whole presentation made me feel how epic it truly is. Wish they became available in Australia :(
Man I get excited for your videos. Truly one of the only information based gear head attractions on CZcams.
Thanks for the work you put into these documentaries, the best on CZcams.
A lot of demon videos out there . I was really waiting on yours 💪🏾💪🏾💀
Ive been a fan of this channel a while, and I am BLOWN AWAY with every new video. This is such an awesome fucking video dude. The editing, music, CAD, mechanical discussion, is better than any other car video on the planet. Truly a masterpiece for CAR PEOPLE. It has everything, it's perfection. Don't stop, for the love of God.
This is an incredible video, everything from audio to visuals is just outstanding!
I love the Demon, but I've never seen a stock one run a 9.65 or even a 9-anything to this day at my local track - Orlando Speedworld. I remember the day Leah ran the 9.65 at Gainesville and it was "mineshaft" barometric conditions, and the temp was near 50 degrees! So yeah it happened... ONCE. But it sure hasn't happened since.
Your work continues to get better. Excellent content.
The Hemi A-Bodys were born because of Certain Big 3 Engineers Playing with Toys in and around Woodward Ave. Tom Hoover being one of Chryslers most Notable with His "Silver Bullet", and is the Brains behind what became SRT. These guys were Decades Ahead of Their Time.🏁🏁
1971 Demon 340 would be in my top 10 dream cars
Excellent video! The information is spot-on, and the graphics are awesome!
I absolutely love the old Mopar muscle cars. I have been lucky enough to own a couple of them, including my all time favorite 440 six pack 1969 Coronet Super Bee. Sadly I wound up selling that car because, well, I simply could not afford to keep it. At least I did make a decent profit on it. But todays computerized Charger and Challenger are trash to me. Not only are they ugly, but they have more computer than car, and they are seriously compromised by the EPA. Yes they may have a lot of power and go fast, but they are not the real thing. As a t shirt from one of my favorite Mopar CZcams channels says, "it's not how fast you go, it's how you go fast" And mixing computers with cars just doesn't do it for me. I now have a 1972 Plymouth Duster 340/4 speed with an 8 3/4 Sure Grip posi rear axle. It's an AZ car with zero rust, but still a bit ratty looking. It's a "work in progress" I wouldn't trade it straight across for a new "computer car" no matter how fast it was. I just turned 64, and remember what REAL cars were like. My Duster "feels" a lot faster than it is, while this modern junk feels a lot slower than it actually is.
Oh yeah! The green Demon at about 5:12 is identical to the one I bought from a guy who bracket raced it.
I scoured CZcams a few years ago and could NOT find a Demon this shade of green. I gave up and figured my memory was going but there it is.
Oh, was my first car, too. Loved it.
I always look forward to your videos bro, keep going don't stop
Great video. Very good production quality and audio.

Great video. Thanks. My uncle dragged Hemis back in the late 60's in a 39 Willis called Hemi Hurricane. He was running mid to low 9's and the car now spends time in the Hall of Fame in Taladega.
