- I've completed nearly every Mario game out there and with the announcement of the Super Mario 3D All Stars collection for Mario's 35th Anniversary, I've got more on my plate. Or do I? Because I've already completed these games. I've done it all. So I thought this would be a great time to make one GIANT episode that features all these games. We're diving into Super Mario 64 DS, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (bonus!).

Mario 64 DS was my introduction to Mario 64, having never owned a N64 console in my life. I loved the mini games. Thanks for covering this version.

I agree, but also I'd rather have the original since I felt the character specific things of DS were a bit clunky and I'm glad to not have to deal with them. These games in mostly their original forms is perfectly fine to me as I know those versions the most and know I can trust them. That's my preference though.
64 DS, 3D Land and Galaxy 2 can make a second collection.
Both times I saw the Mario Sunshine video I can't help but notice:
"FLUDD has two modes...."
"This thing has three modes..."
Jirard it has 4 modes! the spray, hover, rocket, and turbo! lol
So easy to forget the rocket and turbo modes so I get it because you use them each like 2 times in the whole game.
You use the turbo twice in the game ? Silly man.
But rocket storage is the best thing in Sunshine
It actually makes sense in a way, though: you can only have *two* modes at a time, spray and one of the *three* others
also people dont always think about the spray as a mode

3D land is a different kind of 3D Mario series, it isn’t considered a part of the “classic-style” of 3D Mario. Also it’s not in the 3D All-Star collection.

@@incognitod8444 Well I guess I should have said remake instead of remaster. I meant that they should use 64Ds as a base and change the textures for new ones that won't make it look pixely anymore (and also more vibrante colors like the original, on the DS they looked desaturated)
When we learn that Mario Galaxy 2 isn’t even in 3D all-stars so it’s basically a bonus episode here.
We all joked about Jirard not completing the All-Stars pack, but now, it's Nintendo that didn't complete their latest All-Stars pack.

I still totally disagree with people hating the voice acting in Sunshine. I love the rare occasions when Nintendo embraces voice acting and the fact that it was so goofy and cheesy felt like a perfect fit for Mario. Mario speaks full sentences all the time and has a dedicated voice actor so obviously he has a voice and I don’t know why they don’t just commit and have fun with the goofiness like they did here.

Super Mario Galaxy will always have a special place in my heart. I remember my mom surprising me with a copy of this game one morning before I went to school, when I was around 8. I played it so much, and still do whenever I get on my wii
It’s an old video so you probably won’t see this but I genuinely really enjoy your channel. I discovered your content last week (I know I know I’m lame) and been going through as many videos as I can. Being an older gamer in my 30s it’s awesome to walk down memory lane with all these titles. Sunshine is literally the sole reason I bought the pack. I never had a gamecube so I could only play it on an emulator. Gonna be so nice to play it on the big screen.

I don't care what anyone says, Super Mario 64 DS is the most definitive official version of Super Mario 64. Playing as Luigi, Wario and Yoshi in visually improved areas from the beloved game from the end of the 90s couldn't be better than what I imagined before.

I have to mention that mario galaxy 2 takes place at the exact same time as the beginning of mario galaxy 1 since galaxy 1 ends with rosalina reverting time to before the star festival. That is why both games begin at the star festival so no a century hasn’t passed between the games.
If Jirard and Scott made a series together it would be the best gaming series ever. Those two are my favorite!

Like...ok, do you not understand the novelty of the touchscreen back in the day? Upto this point you had like..Mario 64DS and Rub Rabbits. There wasn't THAT much in regards to just having fun games which used the touch screen. So was nice to see it used in fun ways. Some of the mini games like the trampoline one and the bomb one were legit.
I know the original video is old but man, you really did not like those mini games haha.

Mario 64 DS happened in an alternate time line, this happened after the events of Mario 64 on the 64, every time Mario would say “so long gay bowser” the space time continuum would start creating an alternate timeline. Which led to Mario 64 DS. Once the space time continuum finally made the alternate time line, the first time line was destroyed. That’s why wario and Luigi were in the DS version, bc there timelines were intersected.
So let's cut off the end of the timeline with Galaxy 2?

Once that 3D pack was announced, I revisited these old Completionist vids, so this is swell to see them all for reflection! Can't wait to replay them on the Switch!
I think 1) Nintendo may have rushed the collection because they want to this to be the best 35th anniversary 2) there doing galaxy 2 for dlc or 3) they just suddenly never remember galaxy 2 existed.
That's my guess.
Hot take: Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy and Galaxy 2 all become available as individual 20$ downloads on the eshop in March 2021. That's why 3D Allstars is limited until then

Hypothermia i feel like it was a bad claim back then too. you look at things like the Virtual Console/eShop and the Zelda remasters and you can see Nintendo had no problem essentially rereleasing games. to get into the more obscure, even things like the Zelda Collector's Edition thing for the GameCube and the Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary release show that sometimes they didn't really mind ports or rereleases
well the zelda one had master quest so it wasnt just a re-release but for the most part you are right :)
Theres a difference between a new installment and a straight up port. Nintendo doesn't really like to iterate.

They should've ported the ds version of Mario 64 imo.
Even excluding Super Mario Galaxy 2, Jirard still completed more than the 3D All Stars Pack, seeing as the DS version of 64 had more than the base version Nintendo included.
This compilation was alright. I wouldn't want too many, but for collections of games that each individually involve hundreds of collectibles you've already done a video on, it's pretty much the only right answer.

The pack isn't much different from the original games anyway. There isn't anything new for him to complete there either.
These are great for putting on the background and enjoying as white noise, but I don't think I would do them too often. Lining them up with special events like this where it makes sense is perfect!

Mario galaxy 2 was a remake of the first game told from the point of view of a children's book. That's why the story was almost identical.

Super Mario 64 DS was honestly one of the very first games I ever remember playing as a kid. And I’m 17 at the time of making this comment, and the last time I remember playing it was 6 years old, so that makes it 11 years since I last played it. Now that I think about it, it’s making me more excited for hopefully getting Mario 3D all stars for Christmas. While ik it’s slightly different to the DS version of sm64, it’s still the same game, levels wise.
