  • One day someone invented the sport of hitting a ball with a stick, Mario Golf is one of those inventions. Golf just isn't for me, but putting it into a video game is speaking my language and helping me try new things. Mario has never lead my astray in the past...right?

    Tees, clubs, golf carts, and ... Piranha Plants?! It must be Mario Golf! Mario, Peach, Donkey Kong and a cast of their cohorts have dusted off their clubs and set their sights on the Toadstool Tour championship. Two new styles of golf courses and a new swing system offer both the seasoned Mario golfer and those new to the game a fresh look at golfing in the Mushroom Kingdom. Features include: Choose to play on a conventional course or an all-new course designed from the ground up to be all about the Mushroom Kingdom! Chip over warp pipes and avoid hazards like Piranha Plants, Chain Chomps and Thwomps when playing on Mario-inspired courses. Tee for two, three or four! You can tee-off solo or fill out a foursome for some friendly competition. Control your swing in a manual mode for experts and a partially automated mode for novices.

    So uh... who's gonna tell him about the Ace CPUs?
    Well I guess I will since it's not widely known info anyway, but there's a secret AI setting for the CPUs in Match Play after Pro called Ace. I don't know when this was found, but it was originally thought that you had to beat every tournament (regular and star) with every character (regular and star), which is absolutely insane. It was found later on that the criteria is to beat every Star tournament with every regular character (also can't remember if unlockable chars count for this), still insane (especially difficulty wise), but 25% the content requirement. The thing about the Ace CPUs is that, well they're almost unbeatable. The best players of this game in the world (check out MetalYoshiProGamer for his match videos against them) struggle immensely to keep up. Their decision making and execution are nearly flawless across the board and beating any star Ace is a fantastic achievement.

    • @mysticmismagius6298
      @mysticmismagius6298 Před 3 lety +27

      You have to beat every Star tournament with every character, except Niel and Ella. The four unlockable characters do need to be used.
      In the Japanese version you only have to beat Star Bowser Badlands once.

    • @ShadowMario3
      @ShadowMario3 Před 3 lety +18

      It was actually figured out later on that you just need to beat every Star Tournament with every (non-GBA) character! Doesn't matter if you use regular or star versions. Definitely weird that he didn't mention this though, since he would have seen the unlock notification once he met that requirement.

    Oh god Jirard im so sorry you gotta hear this, but it seems the game doesn't accurately tell you how choosing what part of the ball you can hit actually works, after moving the ring to the desired spot on the ball, during the swing you need to move the thumbstick to line up the red dot with the ring or else its a regular center shot with no customized arc, that would be why some of those challenges felt like hitting your head against a wall.

    • @ShadowMario3
      @ShadowMario3 Před 3 lety +34

      "but it seems the game doesn't accurately tell you how choosing what part of the ball you can hit actually works"
      The game actually has a very thorough Lessons menu that actually tells you how to play the game! Unfortunately, most people skip this, so they don't know many features. For example, what you are describing is under "Adjusting Impact Point" in the game.

  • @Garryn_
    @Garryn_ Před 3 lety +17

    Small word of advice (I guess for anyone deciding to play this game after it, since I don't assume Jirard wants to pick it back up): when you use the D-Pad to shape your shot, that doesn't do anything unless you hold the Analog Stick to that impact point after you start your swing. Several times throughout the video, you can see that the impact preview has changed, but the red filled circle is where you're actually hitting the ball; every shot throughout the entire video was a regular, un-shaped shot.
    There's also the whole Ace CPU thing...it wasn't mentioned in the vid, but it sounded like the criteria should've been met anyway. Not sure.
    I'm glad you played this game, I still play it a ton (used to speedrun it). Game deserves the love it gets but to go for full completion is definitely a mammoth task.

    Looking at this, they flubbed with the new mario golf. There’s barely any character animations for the shots, which was something i was really looking forward to. In addition, Diddy Kong is not a playable character in Super Rush. Hopefully they can add him as dlc.

It’s incredibly entertaining and engaging and the victory animations i remember loving too. if you’re going for 100% then i can see why you gave it the rating you did. but honestly this game if it was on a 1-10 scale for quality deserves a high rating.

      According to us, FIAT stood for:

      (Dangerous in all traffic)
      And KIA stood for:
      "Koreansk Industri Affald"
      (Korean industrial waste)
