Someone pointed out that I didn't mention the music and the simple reason of that is I feel like I never have anything to say other than "music good. ears went BRRRRR"
But for real Raidou's OST is very good give it a listen
Fits those Detective vibes really well too "Go, Raidou" and "The Lazy Detective Agency" are my favs
Raidou 1 was a real left field release but its still a solid and fun game. Raidou 2 went a LONG way in smoothing out the jank from combat. It's probably my favorite SMT game all around.
Yeah I booted up raidou 2 just for a second and was like "wow I already likes raidou 1 but this feels like a real video game" looking forward to getting round to it... smt5 first tho
God I wish this game would get a modern port. I can emulate just fine, but I feel more inclined to finish games I bought for some weird reason lol

and I get what you mean about emulation, I love it but if it weren't for doing videos I'd probably only play shorter games (i beat metroid zero mission and klonoa in 1 sitting when I only planned on testing them out) anything longer I'll usually drop off
Good stuff as usual, I enjoyed the recurring gags such as the footage of Sekiro playing whenever you made reference to your HD PS2.
I was worried having it 3 times might be a bit much

An HD rerelease of this or other older titles or even the unlocalized titles would be something else man. I can only imagine the reaction Atlus would have to such a request but a boy can dream 😂. I honestly hope we start to see an increase of their output with P4AU and 13 Sentinels coming next year, perhaps they are looking to increase their output after SMT5 was wrapped up. Who knows honestly but more Atlus titles in general like 13 Sentinels or other titles they publish are always appreciated

I think I could of probably cutdown on the gameplay section more and spread out the info a bit but otherwise I was pretty happy with it

I feel like you should do Raidou 2 after this, because you will get a kick out of its improvements now that you have the first game fresh on your mind.
I'm gonna do SMT5 next then do Raidou 2 after that with a few things inbetween probably (I might do the alice side quest and such in raidou1 during that period tho since I wasn't a high enough level at the time and it'll refresh me) that beind said I did touch raidou 2 for like 5 minutes it it feels good

I'd really like to see another SMT game try a real time action twist like this, not like P5S though just a mixup of it's formula, SMT is no stranger to experimentation after all!
yeah strikers was alot of fun but it really didn't reward normal combat and spamming skills was always the way to go
I think what they had going with raidou was brimming with potential

I played it for a while on my PC but then the controls started bugging out on me and I had no idea how to fix it. Considering getting a ps3 for it. Good stuff though !

If you do there is this weird audio delay in the game (same with digital devil saga but its less noticeable in raidou)
But it is something you can fix by opening up a secret emulation menu up on the ps3 and changing the v-sync method

Love this game but the encounter rate man
If anything 1 and 2 need a remaster on modern platforms just like Nocturne which although wasnt the greatest show these games do sell especially post Persona 5.
Certainly dosent help any English Ps2 copies are at least 150$ each
I'd live to see remasters of these games even ones of nocturne's quality but unfortunately i feel like they have alot going against them
Pre render backgrounds are tricky to upscale, there are AI softwares that can get good results when used right but most devs shy away from them
Then there potential Voice over being added which would need to adjust the fancer cutscenes timing for not impossible but again more work
Finally theres the problem that raidous design is kinda deemed offensive in many asian countires due to it being a military uniform during a time japan loved war meaning a sizable market is cut out
I dont think its impossible just very unlikey
Digital devil saga on the other hand doesnt have these problems its all 3d its already got VO and its got nothing preventing it from selling anywhere major
Ps2 turn based has probably aged a little bit more gracefully than raidou 1 combat too
I tried to play this game and didn't like it, granted I didn't get very far. Maybe I should replay it?
While I think people shouldn't skip on it if you didn't enjoy it depending on how much you played maybe skipping to 2 is for the best
I played a little bit of the tutorial to get that screenshot when talking about the muddy textures and 2 plays like a real video game

The Capital is certainly one hell of a breath of fresh air after playing Nocturne and the Digital Devil Saga duology, its nice to see a Megaten setting that for once. Its NOT the apocalypse, as well as most of the demon NPCs that you find in the Dark World being a hell of alot more friendlier than ususal. As a matter of fact...
Whenever there was a new event that updated the dialogue of the NPCs, I actually went through the trouble of having Raidou go ALL OVER The Capital just to see what every NPC had to say! Though even though I liked most of the NPCs... I will say that the way they handled the character of Shizu really rubbed me off the wrong way.
...Getting away from that, I feel like this is one of the few Megaten titles where it really feels like the demons at Raidou's side are not just his allies. But rather his friends, With their quotes when Raidou summons them, when you hit an enemy's weakness and the like. As well as most demons having their own unique sounds when they follow Raidou. and I feel like the Loyalty mechanic really emphasizes that.
I know everyone loves Jack Bros as a meme, but I geniunely wish there were more Megaten games like that with a tone and story that resembled a Saturday Morning Cartoon.
I kinda feel like Raidou is one of the only silent Megaten MC where his lack of emotions feels intentional, and an actual part of his character. Rather than stuff like the Demi-Fiend and Serph where their lack of emotions feels like a byproduct of making them silents. Rather than that being intended.
Robo-Rasputin... He is certainly one of the more wacky Megaten antagonists, I will also echo that he somehow manages to be both a geniune threat. As well as incredibly goofy. Though I personally wished he perished in the story rathern than surviving, as I really wanted to avenge Mr. Elfman after finding out the Lover Of The Russian Queen pulled a "Kill and Replace"-tactic.
...Also, the moment I got to his fight... I mutted the game's audio, and played Boney M's Rasputin song!
From this point I'll talk about stuff that you didn't mention.
The part where Raidou and Gouto get transported through space and time and up finding an alternate Raidou with a u in his name was a bit strange, as I got the impression that they got transported to an alternate dimension... But some of the dialogue makes it seem like they traveled to the past instead.
The Akarana Corridor has gotta be one of my favorite Megaten final dungeons, which completely beats the Tower Of Kagutsuchi from Nocturne, the Karma Temple/Tower from Digital Devil Saga (Which I found both to be a complete slog) and the final dungeon of Digital Devil Saga 2 (Which, was cool in concept.. But the way the story of Digital Devil Saga 2 went. Really sucked my enjoyment out of it.)
With how Raidou encounters stuff from different time periods, be it Time Tourists. Lost Soul of each respective era, and even getting to get to see small glimpses of them with the "Hourglasses" Hell, even getting some MAJOR callbacks to SMT 1!
And of course, the game's final antagonist. Raidou Kuzunoha The 40th. It was really interesting to see a Raidou from the future, that not only comes from the time of SMT 2.... But he also wants to stop the events of SMT 1 from ever happening! Though I really dont get why he was so obsessed that in his mind, the ONLY way to change the future was to destroy japan. Considering that even though his plan technically failed, the events of SMT 1 never happen in Raidou's timeline. Instead going to SMT If, and then Persona 1.
Ya know, as much as everyone loves to hate on Ronde... I am still geniunely curious about its story and characters. I mean, despite the fact that the gameplay looks ridiculously slow, as well as the graphics not being easy on the eyes at all. I still would like to give it a genuine chance.
If people say: Play a real Smt game!
Just answer: Well at least is not persona.
