I played this as Cybernator on the Wii VC. It was hard!
Now if they could port over Front Mission Gun Hazard, then I'll be extra happy.
Coolest 2D Mech game I know! Bought it in 1994 and it still holds up to this day! I also got Assault Suit Leynos (kind of a remake) and never really got into it even if the gameplay is faster and the graphics "nicer". Assault Suit Valken, you can feel the weight of the mech when you jump and hover with the thruster pack. The key to success is to learn when to use the shield and be careful when advancing forward. Don't go too fast. Move, stop, block, aim and shoot while always blocking incoming bullets. Stay in position, clear the enemies and advance afterwards. It's a game that rewards careful players. Look absolutely everywhere in the early levels to boost the vulcan canon to LV3 ASAP, focus on the missile launcher right after that. There's a unique mood and melancholy to the audio and the animations. Take time to let the intro play before going through it. I highly recommend this awesome SNES classic!! Great nostalgic blast! I hope Metal Warriors will come out too. It's not as "serious", but it's in the same vein and has different gameplay mechanics. Both worthy titles!

That music at 00:54 reminds me so much of Brainlord and a bunch of other enix games from the 90s.
I adored the original western release of Cybernator, still have my SNES cart. I never knew until much later that it was modified from the Japanese release. Even more to love now, I'm hoping this will get a physical cartridge release.
You probably know by now but I'm pretty sure PlayAsia has a physical copy.

Good Review! I remember this as Cybernator on snes. This character is also in Senko no Ronde 2 Duo on steam and ps. The character is getting some well deserved respect🤝
Ah! I've been waiting for the day I can get to play the uncensored and translated original Japanese version of this game. Looks to be a lot better than the edited/censored version we got as "Cybernator", which I still have a copy of. It was good, but I don't understand why the character portraits were removed during the dialogues between the characters so we could see what they looked like.
I just realised this got a re-release today! Loved this game as a kid and still play it from time to time.
Nice that the Napalm gun can be unlocked from the start but it is a bit of a cheat weapon.
What we need now is a translated version, preferably with an easy mode, for Assault Suit Leynos 2 as the original Assault Suit Leynos already has a remake.

It would've been nice to mention that the original western release by Konami was called Cybernator. Still, solid review.

Can you smell it? That's the return of mechs to gaming lads and ladies. Gear up and let's see some mech games that also have odd jobs like Steam Bot Chronicle did..
Now if my arms and hands will hopefully do better enough I'll be able to return to playing more too.
I would have liked to have the entire Valken series.... I'm not saying that I'm dissapointed but...... only one game?? really, this would have been the perfect oportunity to have access to entire series.
I played this as cybernator when it first came out. One thing i remember....the game was hard! I had to use codes.
That games was a cake walk versus Contra on SNES. Once you get to the rocket stage, you can max out everything.
I had this on SNES back in the day but I could of sworn it had a different title. Was this released under different names?

Did I buy the same title? The only options are volume and the new soundtrack is only in sound test. Everything else is the same as the SNES.....I don't see anything else unless I need to beat it first?
I briefly saw the image in notifications and my brain went "༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽ARMORED CORE !!!". I'm sad now but the game does look decent.

Wanted to buy this game but it seems its not available on Canadian eshop. Don't know why. Most games are... so why not this particular one...
I beat this game over a decade ago. I went back and tried it again recently and got absolutely destroyed.
Trivia: This game's illustrations and concept art are by Langrisser and Growlanser artist Satoshi Urushihara.

Funny that I knew about Urushihara when I saw this anime called "Plastic Little", yet I was surprised when I saw his name on the ending credits. I had no idea.
i honestly enjoy its predecessor even more, Assault Suits Leynos on Sega Genesis, unforgettable experience, but the graphics did not hold up, so i hope this sells alot, then they remake Leynos ;)
they already made a modern version of Leynos on PS4 and PC in 2016

No physical edition has been announced. Since Rainmaker Productions is a small and new Japanese company, we have no precedent to see if they will try to find a boutique/limited physical publisher at a later date. For now, this release is digital-only.

I can only beat this game with the Napalm cheat. Excellent game! I still have my CIB Snes copy!
I need Target Earth
To be honest, I suck at shooters, but I would say this game difficulty is everything but very hard. On the original SNES cartridge I always managed to arrive to the final boss or at least to the final level without bigger problems. If you compare this with most memorable shooters from the 16 bit era like, for example, Thunder Force IV or Ranger X, Cybernator by comparison is easy. This without even mentioning games like Musha, way harder than this. Maybe you still have to learn how to properly use the shiled in this game? It is essential.
I recall playing this on SNES via emulation. This was a fun game actually. What was the newer game released under a different name that really resembles this one?

It's the original Japanese name. It's actually part of the Assault Suit series.
