Ren has lived a difficult, painful life but somehow (it boggles my mind) instead of turning to bitterness and despair he was able to bring out these small blinding gems of honesty and sorrow and hope that speak deeply to so many souls. I can honestly say that my life is better after finding his work and I don't think there's higher praise for an artist. Glad you're now here with us for the journey. 🌻❤️

I'm now a year in to my 'addiction' :) and still glad to have found a new channel i enjoy so i can have another journey.A newer vid that has become one of my favs is Ren-Spontaneous Strean Jam.Just him and a guitar impromptu on one of his Twitch streams,so good,would love to see your take on it.If you fancy seeing how incredible Chincilla is also i would suggest 'Fingers-Live for Hunger TV' I get chills every time i listen,which is a lot :) There is 2 vids of them busking together if you just want something to make you smile,kindred spirits and they are both contagious :D

Izzy, you lit up some during that one- love to see your sparkle! Ren just does whatever the hell he feels like and he takes his fans on that journey. There are countless comments on YT, FB, IG along the lines of "Now I like rap? What's happened to me?" and "I haven't made art, music etc in X years, but Ren has inspired me!" and "I haven't been excited by an artist since way back when, but Ren has captivated me!" So much fun!

Bowie is an apt comparison in terms of range, growth over time, pure talent, unflinching humanity, versaltility, collabs and emotional intelligence. Except, of course, Bowie had a label and received tremendous airplay. Ren is still, despite the tremendous back catalog, virtually unknown with no commercial play or industry recognition.
I get that. But I'm sure he'll get the recognition he deserves at some point. "It's all part of His plan".

Cant believe you havent checked it out yet, but my personal favourite Ren/Big Push performance is their medley of Wade In The Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard.
Its a blusey version and its almost perfect.

Yep i am in the worst place i've come across yet in my life & there have been LOTS of worse places in my life so yea i am just so freakin thankful & grateful that **Ren** just sorta appeared out of nowhere for me this past year when i NEED it the most very strange but then i am used to strange have had a truly bizarre life so far & seems tis NOT letting up one bit so yea ALL his Art is truly helping me get thru jeezus man pretty sure he is bout to rule the Artistic world in any form he chooses & i can not wait to be a part of this new era of history that will endure until the end of time like other past fantastical Genius Artists **Beautiful** & i totally agree with ya bout what ya said bout David Bowie & Best of Luck to **YOU** YAY for **Creativity**

Ren is a talent for sure all can enjoy I believe he really emotes well through his music and people FEEL it... and that's rare. He really hits on point. I also think He a muso's musician, Those of us that do can see the extra mile Ren seems to go. The raw performances are so special even if they are imperfect.

Other songs come to mind ... of Ren's where he hits you emotionally with a powerful unexpected ending and then silence ...
and in your head you hear the melody echoes and lyrics from earlier in the song ...
It's a powerful device to use. Looking forward to hearing more of that kind of stuff!

Ren lost most of his 20s and started performing again at 27 afterc2 stem cell transplants. But those years,he still wrote music and built all this beautiful depth of feeling and empathy. His friend Joe Hughes died from S when Ren was 20, when Ren was just getting sick

@@IzzyIzenstain apparently some people got worse. Don't know if they fully realize why. It took 2 for Ren to really start improving. First he had to clear steroids from his body and stabilize a diet that he didn't react to
He felt he had nothing to lose. He is 6'1" and I think he was down to 112 lbs. He was dying.

Ren & Chinchilla had the same management years ago, and both had really terrible experiences with them. They're close friends & work well together. Chinchilla is very famous for Little Girl Gone. Even I have heard that song & I don't like almost any current music, lol. That's why Ren is getting so many older fans, like me, a GenX girl. We grew up with the golden era of 60s/70s/80s/part of 90s music, thought it was normal to have such iconic music but found out nope, it was just a special time. Ren has brought us back to life w/such incredible music & performances. ☺

I can’t agree more. I thought I was done with modern music, but then, along came Ren. He has also introduced me to a plethora of other current artists that are also amazing!

I remember being spellbound and at the end having a deep sense of sorrow that I would never again be able to hear for the first time. The only other song that's come close to giving me that feeling was Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah. Subbed to join you on your Ren journey...

Ren is one of the most talented musicians I have ever seen, but his penmanship is exquisite above all. That is what attracted Sony to him when he first signed, sadly he got so sick he couldn't get out of bed. They terminated the contract on the agreement. In the end, it is their loss.

Yes, simple and powerful and raw. And, thank god, no pitch correction. Ren uses sometimes all kind of effects on his voice in the studio but there is an artistic thought behind it, a purpose. And he knows when it makes no sense to use it. And here it would take so much from the emotion. That's something artists and producers don't seem to get nowadays and use "heavy" pitch correction on everything, always. And "live" performance is also heavily produced and pitch corrected before released on CZcams or elsewhere. Even when it's so obviously goes against the song.
Yeah, I hate that heavy pitch correction too. It kills stuff.

If you haven’t already go back and watch that again (not react just enjoy and watch) with new eyes for the layers the guy has. Look at the amount of detail and timing he puts in. See if you can spot the grave.

Ren lost one of his best friends Joe Hughes when he was about 20. He’s 33 now. That night has haunted him since he didn’t make it to the bridge in time to stop him. Freckled Angels, Su*c!de, and For Joe follow his stages of grief and his own personal struggles with the desire to end it when he battled illness for so many years. This song is so powerful on so many levels. And the connection with Chichilla is incredible.
Correct - Ren isn’t constrained by genre. I like the Bowie comparison. After a heavy song like this, I like to recommend lighter more uplifting songs. I think you would really like “Power,” or The Big Push “Bongo Bong” or “Englishman in New York.”

Yes, there's a verse in Romans (chapter 3 v 23): 'for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God'. I find it interesting how Ren calls himself an agnostic, but seemingly wrestles and engages with the Bible and prayer in a way many Christians don't. He has a really interesting song called Lost all Faith which you might find interesting.

Actually Ren is turning 34 in March.
Sin means debt, at least in a Christian concept. The idea is that our life here and next is a gift, and if we do things that go against this gift of love, then we acrew a debt through it. I like that.

This and Chalk Outlines are essentially Ren compositions but they made some changes together, to fit a duet. This one's about Ren's reaction to his best friend's suicide...
ah...so we didn't get it right...We missed the mark of what we understood to be correct. (hence) we are ALL sinners. THE REASON I just don't fkn get the whole "god will strike you down" if you "sin". I've seen rapists and baby killers and fkn liars and murderous dictators continue to live on this earth....WHILE INNOCENTS DIE AT THEIR HANDS. No wonder people are cynical. I'm trying man...I TRULY AM TRYING TO make sense of it all.
