This song is about Ren's friend Joe Hughes who sadly took his own life at the age of 19 (by jumping off the Menai bridge around 3.00 a.m. on 28/12/2010). Ren wrote the song Freckled Angels about Joe (and dedicated the album of the same name to him).

This was another beautiful, genuine reaction. As for "How to Be Me," Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide; Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs, "Freckled Angels" being one example. It is dedicated to Joe Hughes, who went missing on the 27th of December, 2010.
Their live performance of "Chalk Outlines" is still my favorite song, partly because I can relate to it due to my own daily struggles. Although, losing your best friend to suicide is also something I experienced when I was 19 y/o (almost 38 years ago). “How to Be Me” definitely runs a close second, though. I would also recommend their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk in love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover); those performances are of a much lighter mood and very enjoyable.
In case you didn't already know, Chinchilla (Daisy Bertenshaw) is 26 years old, from London, UK, and a rising star on the British music scene. She was a supporting act on Sting's 2019 European Arena tour and the opening act for the 2021 McFly tour. Chinchilla has also played some big European music festivals. Her songs "Cold Water" and "Shadows [Tails]" are beautiful, but her entire catalog is worth listening to. Here is the link to her YT channel: czcams.com/channels/Zc7gfR6BH-mGJh0_EgHAIQ.html

I will definitely be diving into all of his songs. I'm excited for his new one next week and his birthday! I hope he gets to celebrate 🎂

@@TachyTanya I am sorry to hear about your loss, even though it was over 16 years ago now. I lost my dad when I was 10 y/o, and I have lost a number of my friends over the years, one to suicide, the others in the military, so I am very familiar with the feeling of loss and grief.
If you want to check out songs that are more upbeat I would suggest Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs. They are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake),” just to name a few.
I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”).
Also, "The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are awesome and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," “War Pigs,” "My Generation," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” “These Boots Are Made For Walking,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive.
I am looking forward to more reactions from you. Have a blessed day.

Ren has this effect doesn't he!
I'm really not sure why his songs make me feel better but they do seem to help. I've been living with depression for what seems to be forever now. I'm from England, I left school early with nothing and walked straight into the acid house seen at 14. This turned into 8 years of doing of hard-core partying and a huge amount of drugs were taken, then at 22 my dad had a heart attack and my life was turned upside down. I also watched my mother die from cancer and have lost a brother and sister since and losing my best and oldest friend to a freak accident left me a wreck.
I'm trying to live but it's hard when heads just full of negative thoughts but I know I'm not alone and I have to fight every day just to do the things most of the world wouldn't give a second thought to.
Artists like Ren and NF seem to help, even if just for little while.

when I lost my dad in 2015,a at the ripe old age of 84, from multiple cancers, it was hard being the one that had to see to his affairs, as well as the only family in the locality to look after him and watch him fade away. BUT, he lived a full life, and lived through the loss of his wife and my mother in 1984, and before I could recall, in 1969 lost his middle son aged 6 (a brother i cannot remember), both to car wrecks. The fact he cracked on with his life, met a woman in 1988 and spent the rest of his life with her, makes me feel better equipped to accept his passing, because he made the most of the worst hand he could be dealt, I hope I can have that level of grace x

I don't know how people get through that - I couldn't even imagine it and it's one of my worse fears (losing one of my children period). Losing his wife on top of that... your father must have been one tough cookie. When you've been dealing with mental issues so long that you don't truly know who "you" might be underneath it all. Is the you that you know actually who you are, or are you still buried inside somewhere waiting to emerge? And you wonder, or at least, I wonder, if I'll ever really know. If any of that made sense. You are the only person I have come across who said they did not have a reaction to "Chalk Outlines." You should watch and react to the song again. Maybe it will hit you the second time. Given Ren's medical history, I believe the song addresses mental illness diagnoses, and prescription psychotropics, which leave you emotionally dead (hence, the moving chalk outlines around your dead self). Even on a relatively good day when you might not want to take your pills, you take them "just in case, because all things change," i.e., your well-being is usually short-lived and followed by another bout with depression. In her opening line, Chinchilla even mentions the antidepressant (SSRI) "Sertraline" and references serotonin.

If you need some happier songs I suggest you check out his band The Big Push. I noticed you minimize and put yourself down a lot (because i can be the same way), I just want to say you are lovely and have absolutely nothing to apologize for, I've really enjoyed your reactions so far and i think you're doing great. ❤
Ren has you covered in the upbeat department! Power is an uplifting one, Losing It and What You Want are him just goofing off (with serious rap skills) and are a lot of fun. You could also check out some of the busking he's done with his band The Big Push, they're guaranteed to make you smile. I know how you feel, my lady's mom lost her fight with cancer in 2011, one that we all expected she would beat (Lymphoma, but chemo resistant)... it was a full year of treatments and surgeries, not MY mom... but my "other mom" and I loved her dearly since 1996. I can say one thing, the time we got to spend with her was somehow "more" than the previous 15 years, we valued that time immensely. Only 4 years earlier (2007) my only sibling, big brother, took his life... and a few years before, a father figure that I'd known since I was a teen lost his fight with Melanoma.
Time heals, the scars will never fade away, the pain will always be there... but we learn how to live with it. You will find you, I promise... take it from a guy that couldn't think of anything to dull the loss of my brother and couldn't see anything other than his end, so I painted the whole house... anything to get lost in. It probably took a solid decade before I could hear a train whistle without my breath hitching and about the same amount of time to actually forgive him and remember his life, rather than his end, I now have a beautiful picture book in my mind of his LIFE replacing the horror story. 💖 and ☮

🤗 Thank You there's plenty more to the story of my pain and it can feel like it will bury you... but look, here we are, able to laugh!
I'd rather tell the story of my joy, 26 years with the love of my life... mom is still around for a bit, Covid seems nearly over, we bought a house in Virginia, etc, etc.
Our state of mind, our happiness all depends on what we focus on... the pull of the all-consuming misery or "The Darkness" is stronger so we push against hurricane force winds to get to the joy and "The Light".
Instead of making you hop to my other comment, I just wanted to say that "Jack in the Box" is a perfect description... I don't think I've ever been more uncomfortable and all of a sudden too (and I framed mansions for a living in all weather, 6 days a week). I felt flushed at first, then hot, discombobulated, then intense panic... please don't take this the wrong way, but I really wish I just passed out!
There's a similarity between big time failing the TTT and a brain MRI or any "with contrast" CT... at least for me, I can't handle the rhythmic pulsing of the MRI (especially brain scan) and the super unnatural warmth from contrast agent is... troubling, but fleeting. 🥀

    • @TachyTanya
      @TachyTanya  Před rokem +1

@@Mike_H76 Oh man, I feel the brain MRI one. I had to basically try to meditate myself into not having a panic attack. My TTT was different than most my other syncope episodes (which sound more like how you felt during your TTT). I felt mostly ok then I felt suddenly nauseous, dry heaved into a cup they gave me a couple times, and then I passed out. It actually terrified me because I've never had an episode like that and that quickly. I'm so sorry you sadly know the pains of these things as well. Sending you big love and hugs.
Framing mansions sounds like an interesting job! I don't know the first thing about building anything so I also find it fascinating! I also don't mind what you tell me! Happy, sad, angry, and everything in between ❤I'm here for it all! 26 years with the love of your life is definitely worth celebrating!! I'm glad you have them by your side. It really makes the world of a difference to have good people in your life.

Hey, I really like your style of videos and how you adress the imperfections of your process - that is a feature not a flaw for me, builds my trust in such a genuine reaction.
If you not really appreciate it, when people in the comments reply to your openness with a personal story theirselves (because it can be a burden - i would totally understand), just do not read the rest of this comment:
I really felt / could relate to your story of the fight against cancer, the death of your father and how it leads to an uncertainty about yourself.
My dad suffered from lymph hodgkin's disease. It was a hard fight, but finally it looked like he could win it. He was in remission and gained some of the weight back that he lost, when my mother died without any warning sign (she had a embolism - perhaps caused by a tiny rupture in a vein). My siblings and I tried to show him how life can go on and that we all will be there for him. He made it through the funeral and appeared to be strong, but has given up on the inside. He collapsed in the night after the funeral of my mum. His blood showed signs of an inflammation in his body which could not be traced to its origin. He died 9 days after my mum. I totally lost myself, I was numb and something inside was kind of broken. A became a stranger to myself and to the woman at my site (she left me 3 years later). The journey back to me, was hard and I found myself in the mirror at the bottom of the darkest hours. I am not the same person, but I can deal with my new "ME".
I can understand, when you are saying: it was harder to watch your dad suffer and die than your own journey through the darkest places of your life. For me it was because the powerlessness to stand next to them and all my love couldn't turn back time or give my dad the hope he needed... In my darkest hours I still was able to do something, I even could have taken the final decision - but it was still my decision.

I am so sorry you lost both your parents 9 days apart. That's horrible. I can completely understand how that could really break someone. It's crazy how similar parts of my story are to a lot of you I am meeting on this platform. My mom also died of an embolism (hers was pulmonary) without warning. My dad wasn't diagnosed with his cancer until long after her passing, but had also gone into remission, only for the cancer to come back with vengeance and wreck havoc on him and his final months of life. I think the powerless part is truly what it comes down to. I could barely even keep him comfortable and was constantly arguing with the drs as it was a delicate balance of pain management/comfort and destroying his kidneys/killing him faster. Some days I struggle with the thought that I killed him (that inner voice is HORRIBLE, isn't it?) and I hear his final words over and over in my mind.
You are welcome to come share your personal stories here any time ❤ it's never a burden. Sending you love and hugs 🤗❤

Condolences from my family to yours. I cannot imagine trying process your grief in front of the world (There was no internet when I went through what you are experiencing now). The audience really doesn't matter anyway. What matters is feeling it move through you (please do not let it get stuck somewhere inside you). You are not alone and whether you laugh or cry all that matters is that you feel something.
My family and I spent a year providing end of life/palliative care for my dad (2nd Cancer) and that year was a blur. I was in the process of figuring out who I was in therapy for about a year prior when his diagnosis came like a thief. The next two years of my life were devoted processing my grief pre and post his passing. I got to say goodbye and I am grateful for that. I can say from experience that your grief will soften (but never quite fade away) over the years. I can also say that I still talk with the dead in remembrance because they still live within me.

Another great reaction ... again. I believe that Ren's music has a way of bringing up all the good/bad/ugly from your soul all at once. At the end of a Ren song you have slowly process ... at your own speed ... all your feelings. The songs end up cathartic ... they are painful in every way emotionally ... but also hopeful, loving and tender in every way emotionally. If you want some more upbeat Ren there are plenty: "Losing It" super fun (EDM/Hip Hop/Rap) ... "Hunger" pure rap/bars/flow changes galore. "Genesis" rap/hip hop - can be deep. IF you want to see some alter ego's try The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" ... it's his busking band ... lot's of incredible videos ... Stay strong young lady.

Ok, you seem fun, two points. Point 1 (or A or I)... you say you look constipated when trying not to cry, I look like I'm trying not to cry when I'm constipated, ba dum tiss 😆. Point 2 (or B or II)... I personally think you should just post "Chalk Outlines", I admire your diligence but posting it would most definitely "get clicks"... while that shouldn't necessarily be the MAIN goal, it is a goal still. Also, people will LOVE explaining the song to you!!! There's nothing people love more than correcting someone on the internet! Good Luck, I'll sub just because you made me laugh... haven't watched this song for the 10,000th time yet, hitting play now. Oh, it's a PHENOMENALLY awesome sonic paradise of meticulously punctuated harmonies, wrapped in a deeply sad song.

Thanks for replying to my rant, Tanya. Glad I made you laugh, life's too short to not! The song is tough, especially for anyone that hasn't lived within a "chalk outline" caused by antidepressants. I don't have much experience with SSRI's, I don't tolerate them well... but I've listened intently to friends/family speak on the side effects (as Ren says in Sick Boi "derealization" being an awful one, living dead, zombie walking).
There's a ton of metaphors that one needs to experience to really feel. The line "I'm scared of being ok..." hits me hard, with severe Generalized Anxiety Disorder... the idea of getting out of it is all that I want, but there's always the nagging voice reminding me how much more painful it would be to get a piece of life back... only to risk falling back in the hole, I think it's a big reason why many don't even try to claw their way out of that hole, the fall would be too devastating compared to the "Hell they know".
Whatever format you choose, I'm here for it and I certainly appreciate your take and your own talents (including making ME laugh, which isn't easy)!

    • @TachyTanya
      @TachyTanya  Před rokem +1

OBS and Premiere Pro have audio monitoring - and they were in the green, bordering yellow - which I though was where it's supposed to be. I'm sure it's more complicated than simply just that and I just don't know it 😂Probably why I'm so bad at it. I can definitely look into what you suggested though. I would love to take a class, but they don't really have audio for YT classes LOL.

So if I heard right you sat through the "Chalk Outlines" video as if you were surrounded by a chalk outline then?
Chalk outlines are drawn around bodies at crime scenes, and some medications leave you feeling numb and dead inside, especially ones designed to control moods, so when you hear lyrics like.....
I'm still here in this bed that I crawled in
I hope that I'm someone else in the morning
(Hoping that you get get better, that your pain and emotional stress will disappear)
Sertraline and a sip of serotonin
    Don't cry 'cause there's a
    Pill for everything
(Pharmaceuticals are the answer to everything but solve nothing, but always they are the first recourse of dr's)
    It's such a perfect day
Take it just in case, take it just in case
(It doesn't matter how good you do feel, keep taking the pills, just in case you start to feel bad, so you know you can never look forward to tomorrow without the fear of more and constant pain)
    I'm scared of being okay
'Cause all things change, all things change
(The greatest fear of all, after prolonged illness is the fear that you may one day wake up and you will be fine, your entire identity is wrapped up in your illness and has been for eternity, and one day you will not have the pain, the mental anguish, the stress, fear and self loathing, this is unimaginable and intensely scary)
Chalk Outlines is the barrier drugs put around your normal self, and allow you to function like a zombie through each and every day.

    • @TachyTanya

My mind more so wandered as it often tends to do with adhd. I have a hard time focusing on one thing at a time 😅 which actually might be part of the problem with relating - I’ve never had that zombie feel and it’s never quiet in my head even when I’m medicated.
I did post a re/non reaction video explaining a bit for Chalk Outlines, but I’m SUPER behind on comments - so if you’ve watched it and have commented on it already, I apologize. I try to go in order and reply to the oldest comments first ❤️ I appreciate you and the breakdown of Chalk Outlines you gave here! Sending huge hugs from over here in N.Ireland. I lost my mum 9 years ago in April, still feel the pain from time to time. Openess and honesty can never be wrong. Seeing people open up in Ren reaction videos is helping me to start to open myself up to me. This track from Ren speaks to me too - losing contact with what makes me me. I would really recommend some of Ren's lighter tracks (What you want, Power, Alight) sometimes we all need a bit of froth :)

Sending you big hugs and love. ❤️🫂
